Just 25 minutes away from the amazing rocks of Zion National Park, relax in secluded, rocky Toquerville! Make your own meal in our full kitchen or the BBQ grill outside. Families welcome!
This is the basement of our home with a separate entrance downstairs; we live upstairs. It is very light and as one guest wrote, "you would never know you are below ground." This is due to the large, open rocked window wells.
1. A large living room, dining and kitchen area that covers 616 sq. feet is the common area. This 44 foot long space includes a living room with a large library of books, a cozy fireplace, a 42" flat-screen TV with cable TV included and several couches. A pool table is in the center, and the end portion has a large dining table and a beautiful corner glass table we call our breakfast nook. This sits atop two large volcanic boulders you will wonder how we got there! There is a full kitchen with fridge, stove, dishwasher, microwave, and coffee brewing station.
2. The bathroom (only one bathroom for both bedrooms) has a tub and shower, and large mirror over the sink. It also has a stack-able washer and dryer that are available for your use free of charge. Soap, shampoo, and conditioner are provided.
3. Also available for your use from 6:00-10:00 p.m. with a reservation, is a 265 sq. ft. Theater Room with a 126" screen.
4. Just for the kids: a separate toy room with doll house, giant ball roller, marble rollers, and various other fun creations from "Grandpa Gary's Wooden Toys." This room has a Queen Murphy bed that will sleep 2 additional family members for $20 more per person.
5. Outside we have a large natural gas grill available for your use and a nice deck with comfortable patio furniture to enjoy our cool desert evenings.

About US!! I am Gary Young and my wife, Karlene and I are the parents of 5 grown children, 4 boys and a girl. We have 8 wonderful grandchildren, 4 girls and 4 boys. Five of them live nearby and we love tending and spoiling them. Karlene has been a teacher for 20 years, most of those years teaching drama to all ages. Five things she can't live without: Family, good food, exercise, beautiful music, theater.
I, Gary, have been a carpenter all my life and have been a General Contractor, building houses, for pretty much about forever. We've long lost track of how many houses I've built, but I did build this home in Toquerville. I love to doodle and build wooden toys and other things in my wood shop.
Future travel wants: back to the Mediterranean, explore Europe, Alaska, and Hawaii. We love cruises!
Karlene enjoys many types of books, but especially Young Adult Fiction. She loves Country music, especially if she can sing it, and Broadway music, because she's a musical theater nerd! She loves being in plays. Her mantra: Hope, and trust in The Lord.
I would rather watch an action packed movie in our great theater room than read.
Karlene admits I'm a terrific host, love to meet people, and make a mean Snickerdoodle Cookie. More than anything I love to take people boating. My goal, to still be water-skiing at age 70! I can't live without my wife, fried chicken, pumpkin pie, grand kids, and my wood shop.
Gary and Karlene Young purchased this house in 2004
We decided it was time to move to southern Utah to get out of the snow of northern Utah. Gary and I had met going to college in St. George, Utah, and my Dodge ancestors helped settle this little pioneer town of Toquerville, Utah in 1862. We had driven through it countless times on the way to Springdale, Utah where Gary's family lived. We were drawn to this beautiful, rural town, with it's tree lined main street that explodes with beautiful white blossoms in the spring. We love being close to Zion National Park and exploring it's endless trails and fun.
Because my husband is a builder, we could put our every wish into our final home. We chose this beautiful town because of it's rural, hometown feel, and have been enfolded in it's arms. The people here are warm, friendly, and very giving. We love to help others and make viable contributions to our city and church as well. Zion National Park is the cream of the crop when it comes to great National Parks, and we love having it in our back yard.
Thank you very much for opening your house and heart for us. We had a very, very nice stay with you. Very lovely, peaceful, & cozy stay. The best part was sitting with you and getting to know you, even for a short talk--that was great. Thank you for being so generous as well. Take good care of yourselves and continue with all the good you do...
Hope to see you in Jerusalem!
We rented the entire basement for 7 days in early September. We hiked every day in either Zion or Kolob Canyon and the weather was perfect. The Young's property was a short and pleasant drive to either park. We could pick up groceries at the local market in nearby La Verkin (very cute town!). The Young's basement felt like home - Gary and Karlene looked after our every need. They treated us like friends and took us for a drive one evening to check out Devil's Hole and some of the nearby countryside. The entire basement was spotless and really quiet. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed and then some. The living area was very comfortable and it was great for relaxing after a long day of hiking. The king bed was extremely comfortable and provided several nights of good sleep for both my husband and I. We especially enjoyed watching movies in Gary's media room in the evenings or lounging in the living area surfing the Internet (great Wifi connection BTW). I personally enjoyed early mornings - I took my cup of coffee to the back yard to watch the sun rise and listen to the roosters crow. Our vacation was a perfect blend of challenging hikes and hanging out enjoying the quiet at the Young's. Gary and Karlene are very warm and hospitable couple and truly made us feel at home. We would go back in a heartbeat and highly recommend staying there especially for those who would like a little more quiet than they would experience staying in Springdale or St George.
Our family had 2 nights here midweek.
What can I say? Absolute perfection. Great accommodation, hosts were beyond amazing, location great.
Everything you'd hope for with a vacation rental. Will definitely be back!
Thank you so much Gary and Karlene.
Came with my daughter and her husband to hike the parks. Karlene and Gary went out of their way to see we had everything we needed and more. Would recommend to anyone looking for a quiet and beautiful location. Short drive to Zion Park and Kolob. Spacious and very clean inside, with everything you will need to relax during your stay..

We loved our stay here! Gary and Carleen were awesome hosts! Their home is warm and welcoming! It felt like home away from home. We would definitely recommend this to our family and friends!
We had a great time here. We felt it was our parents' home. Thank you so much for your hospitality. We loved the banana bread and the puzzles. You have a very beautiful home. Please come and visit us in Irvine, CA. There is no canyons out there and it is almost flat. But er have ocean and it is so beautiful. Thank you again and hope to see you soon.
9-18 to 9-21-15 Awesome Visit. We are Karlene and Gary's first guests! Saturday morning we left early to go to Zion, so Karlene made us a breakfast to go bag. Very Nice. We booked a guided tour of the Narrows and it was fantastic. The next morning Karlene made us a great hot breakfast! It was ALL so good. It was also lovely to chat with her and Gary that morning. Then we were off to hike the Emerald pool trail. Beautiful and fairly easy. Then upon Karlene's suggestion, we walked up the Weeping Rock trail. Worth the small stroll. Very nice. Late Sunday afternoon Karlene and Gary took us to Devil's Hole. It was AMAZING! Great views and such different terrain, it was a great experience. So, in closing we just want to say THANK YOU so much for opening your beautiful home to us. You may be new at this, but you both seem made for (hosting.) So nice getting to know you BOTH. We are both pilots and travel a lot so we know what is fair, good and exceptional...
Zion National Park is a short drive up a beautiful canyon. It takes 25 minutes to drive there. There is a small town, LaVerkin just 3 miles away with a restaurant, grocery store and gas stations. The larger town of Hurricane, just a few miles further has many to choose from. Great website to plan your stay: www.zionpark.com.
About the only things you can do in Toquerville is get the mail and go to church! Founded by some of my Dodge ancestors in 1862, it still has that small town feel, with about 1400 residents. We love the rural feel, the crow of the rooster, the low call of the cows. It truly is a beautiful little pioneer town, a "Tree City!" Spring and fall are especially beautiful.
We can guide you to the best hikes, must see places and great out of the way places only locals know about!
