About Robert Ranno
My wife and I have traveled extensively both within the United States and Internationally. As we both have jobs that support the hospitality industry, we have appreciation for what traveling families want in a vacation destination.
Robert Ranno purchased this House in 1989
Why Robert Ranno chose Chincoteague Island
We purchased this property because it was not like a lot of other houses. It has a charm all its own, one that says I've been here a 100 years, and will probably last another 100. It is comfortable with out being pretentious.
What makes this House unique
Close to the downtown area, with easy walking access to coffee shops, restaurants, entertainment and shopping. Sitting on the front porch enjoying the sunsets and boat traffic on the Inter-Coastal Waterway is another plus.

Our family had a wonderful week.
We were pleasantly surprised with the house. It's an old home neads some repair but then what home doesn't? Spent alot of time in dining room. Great large table. We cooked most of our evening meals and found oven to run high. 350 degrees was more like 450 degrees. Enjoyed coffee time on the front porch. Plenty of beds for all. All in all we had a great time. Outside shower was great for washing sand off before entering the house. We were pleasantly surprised it had both hot and cold water.
Quaint and Charming
This house is nothing if not charming. If you find comfort in quirkiness and an authentic vintage house like we do, you’ll appreciate the value of this truly beachy abode. While the outdoor shower may not live up to any expectations of a spa-like experience (you will have outdoor shower envy of your immediate neighbors), it is sufficient for pre-rinsing your feet and gear after beach going so as to not muck up the indoor showers. The Air condition was adequate for keeping the upstairs cool, which for theNew Englanders in our group was a very welcome comfort. The kitchen is well stocked with cookware and the like. My only complaint is the blender, which was a struggle. If you’re not planning to cook much it shouldn’t be a problem for blending a frozen drink or two. We were more than happy with the coffee maker, which was the best quality I’ve encountered in a beach house. Coffee is a BIG deal for us so this was a huge plus. The oven tended to burn, so cut the temperature and cook time. We lost an entire batch of cookies learning this lesson the hard way. The gas grill worked great except for the starter, so we had to light it the scary old school way, but it may have just needed a battery. The tank was full when we arrived, which was awesome because we grilled basically every night. The entertainment systems are small and dated, and the cable is pretty basic. With so much to do and see on the island it wasn’t a big deal. We never even turned on the downstairs TV, even with two kiddos under the age of 10. The WiFi worked surprisingly well, and was quite fast. We were able to stream movies on our devices with little frustration. You may have to restart the router now and then, but no more than we have to at home. Once rebooted, the speed and signal were great. The house definitely shows its age, but in a cute and endearing way. Rooms are roomy, and no one felt crowded. Everyone was very comfortable in their space, even the teenager! You do need to bring linens, but laundry works very well and is placed conveniently. Hot water was never an issue for the seven showers we took each day. The house location was excellent. We easily walked to many of the shops and businesses, and with just a quick trip across the street you can watch the sunset over the water. Neighbors are very friendly. My absolute FAVORITE accommodation was the after stay cleaning service. If you’re not looking for luxury and appreciate charm and comfort, you will not be disappointed.
The place sure does have character. It was roomy and definitely worked for us. The only complaint is the cleanliness of the place. There was old food and toothpicks under the sofa cushions from previous tenants which was gross. Next to my bed was cut zip ties, kinda had my mind racing, lol. Dusty, paintchipped windows which were also loose falling away from the frame and ANTS were crazy in the kitchen, kept our food on the table. Overall the place was good and we enjoyed our stay there. Would stay there again, perfect location and had what we needed.
Too much and too far from everything
This property said it was convenient to everything but it really wasn’t. We come to Chincoteague every year with family and we book a bunch of houses. Our children love being close to everyone and walking to the shops and stuff in town. This property’s location was too far from all of that stuff and we needed to drive every time we wanted to visit with the rest of the family. The interior was really dusty and there was trash and dust a half an inch thick under the beds and the ants were horrible. They had ants on the counters, in the cabinets and all over the floors. I should of known it was bad when the whole place was covered in ant bait traps. The thing that really bothers me is that we left the place cleaner than we checked in and we HAD to pay a cleaning charge....someone is paying too much for cleaning that’s for sure!! The neighbors next to us were so loud and partied every night until 5 or 6 the next morning in their backyard and the windows were so poorly insulated that it sounded like they were in the house with us. I would not recommend this house if you are looking for a relaxing vacation on this island in a home that is truly “ close to everything “
Across from bay
Charming older home with character & modern features. 3 queen beds up, 2 with jack & Jill bathroom access. 1 twin downstairs with jack & Jill bathroom access with the dining room. Ample TV room, dining room & kitchen. Open front porch & a screened side porch with washer/dryer & picnic table. Outdoor shower with hot & cold water!
Only issue was the ants in the kitchen - other than that it was a great experience.
Charming Home on the water
This home has far more character and charm than the pictures give it credit for, open ceilings and arched entryways. It is an older home, so definitely has it's quirks, but it's beautifully situated just across from the bay, walking distance to coffee, ice cream, and restaurants and within 15 minutes of the beach and anything else you may want to do on the island.
This vintage watermans home is located just outside of the downtown area of Chincoteague. Easy walking distance to restuarants, shops and entertainment.
