About Shirley Powell

My husband Bruce and I moved to Hanover nearly 40 years ago. We developed the campground in 1985 and with the help of our three children in the early years we have doubled the size from a small 20 site campground to our present 50 sites.

Our family has enjoyed all tat the Bethel area has to offer. Our children, and now our grandchildren, have been skiing since a very early age. We have had many sledding and cross country skiing parties on our nearly 100 acres of property over the years and have snowmobiled over miles of trails to which we have easy access.

The home that is shown here is where we live most of the year. For the first time this year, we are planning to travel during the winter months and hope to share our home and property who wish to visit the Bethel and Sunday River area.

Second time as good as the first

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time at Shirley's in two weeks and it was just as beautiful, comfortable, convenient, all-round wonderful as it was the first time. I have to admit that our group, once again, messed up on the keys. We locked them in the house....Shirley could not have been more understanding and accommodating. I cannot recommend this unit more highly.

Perfect. I cannot imagine better accomodations for six people and a little dog.

  • 5 of 5

Everything about Shirley Powell's place was perfect. So much space, amenities galore, all of the necessities--it is as though she anticipated what we would forget to bring. The unit itself is charming and spacious--wonderful mix of old and new. The bathrooms and bedrooms were spacious, with both closet space and drawers for clothing. Was so nice not to have to live out of a suitcase. The hot tub and jacuzzi bathtub! What more needs to be said about that. Washing machine and dryer on premises in a closet. Didn't see it and didn't hear it! The neighbors were nice. It was quiet. The campgrounds were lively but there was still a sense of privacy. Lots of fun places to walk our little dog, who might have preferred it we left him there! The unit was so clean that it may have been impossible to leave it as clean as we found it. To have a store right on the campgrounds was so convenient--and it had a nice selection of beer and wine (if that is your thing). Then there is Shirley Powell. She made it so easy from start to finish. She communicated well pre-visit, showed us around when we got there and was able to communicate her love for this home but did not hover. This will sound odd but she treated us like responsible adults. I have rented from HomeAway before when the owner practically moved in. She was incredibly understanding when there was a key mix-up--our fault! I was not sure what to expect when we read that the unit was on a campground but that worked to our advantage--it is big and beautiful and although there were campers on the grounds, it made it fun and interesting and, as I mentioned, had no affect on our privacy. I have no doubt that we will stay there again. I am imagining how gorgeous it will be in the winter. Thank you Shirley and thanks to all your family, staff, neighbors etc for providing us a perfect place to live for four days. Looking forward to seeing you again! Better than I expected...loved the place

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed in July 2016. The place was even better than we expected it to be. It was very spacious with more than enough room for the 6 of us. Wi fi worked in the bedrooms, which I did not even know they had. The pool was beautiful and even though it was shared, we often had it all to ourselves. The bed were a bit small but that would be my only complaint. My husband and I have a queen at home and struggled to share a full, but I knew that going in. The hot tub was relaxing and so was the two person tub. The pictures do not show how roomy it is in person. Used the grill on the deck and cooked some, yeah to the dishwasher too. And because it had a washer and dryer we did not have to come home with dirty laundry. Great place for the kids, so much to do and relaxing for the adults. Great lobster at the nearby Rooster too.

Spacious and Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

This property was perfect for our recent family ski trip to Sunday River. The three bedroom property was very spacious and comfortable. Shirley and her husband were very helpful answering questions during the booking process and met us at the property for a quick walk through. Also, had several questions during our stay and they were very responsive. The property is a short trip to the mountain and had everything we needed for our long weekend.
