About Shirley Powell

My husband Bruce and I moved to Hanover nearly 40 years ago. We developed the campground in 1985 and with the help of our three children in the early years we have doubled the size from a small 20 site campground to our present 50 sites.

Our family has enjoyed all that the Bethel area has to offer. Our children, and now our grandchildren, have been skiing since a very early age. We have had many sledding and cross country skiing parties on our nearly 100 acres of property over the years and have snowmobiled over miles of trails to which we have easy access.

Shirley Powell purchased this apartment in 1977

Awesome spot for the family!

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful time here! Everything was as expected, except the space was much bigger than it looked in the online pics. Lots of stuff for the kids to do at the campground, great pool and hot tub, and the location is also a great base for many summer adventures. Shirley was wonderful, and it was really nice to socialize a bit with others at the campground. Overall, highly recommend this rental!

The only reason i didn't give 5 stars was that I felt there was not enough light in many places in the house - luckily I brought along my book light so that I could read, but a few more lighting sources would be a definite upgrade.

Great vacation!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here the last week in June 2017 with our 3 small children. Shirley's house is amazing! Everyone at Stony Brook is so warm, friendly and helpful! They always made sure we were having a great time. Pool was a little cold in June but we knew that going in since we stayed before the "official" season began. I can't wait for our next stay!!! My kids had an absolute blast and loved the onsite playground and rec center. Shirley and Bruce, thanks for starting our summer off right!

Luxury in a campground setting

  • 5 of 5

This is a home within a campground. And it was perfect for our group of 7. There was plenty of sleeping space, two full bathrooms (one with a jacuzzi), open space for kitchen - dining and living rm. There was also a back patio for grilling or reading. And a separate patio w/ the hot tub. One of the bedrooms is easily large enough for a blow-up mattress. Out the front door is the campground - the pool, lovely for taking a walk, shuffle board, etc.

We cooked most of our meals there, which was fun with everyone's coming and going.

Polly showed us around the home when we got there, so we settled in nicely (the welcoming bottle of wine was a nice touch). Part of our group rented canoes at the property and were transported to and fro by Polly's husband (this is a separate, v reasonable fee).

We went into Bethel which is a delightful town. This is a great place for an extended family vacation - any time of the year.

family friendly!

  • 5 of 5

This rental felt like home. We met up with another family for a ski weekend at Sunday River. The location is perfect. Not even a 10 minute ride away from the mountain and the hot tub at the end of the day was a welcome comfort! The non skiers in our group stayed back for a few lazy days of board games and walks in the snow. The pizza from the on site store was awesome and just what we needed for movie night once we were all back together. There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out and do their own thing, or hang out together in the large open living room/kitchen. Everything you need is right there. We decided to picnic at the mountain one day and even found 2 bag style coolers to pack up lunch in. The washer and dryer came in handy too. I would highly recommend this rental, we were so comfortable here we can’t wait to come back!
