The house was good for the price. There were a few problems with the house.
The microwave would not work 95% of the time.
The hot water is way too hot. The temperature was measured at 165-168 degrees F. A young child could be scalded by the hot water easily especially if the water is also turned on elsewhere in the home.
The shower faucets can not be turned to control the volume of water exiting the shower head.
This makes it difficult getting into the shower and not getting water all over the place while trying to adjust the water temperature.
The front door could only be opened part way due to the floor interference with opening the door.
We could not find a broom to sweep up the pine needles on the porch and stairs so they would not be carried into the house.
The garbage can outside was completely full when we arrived at he home.
Nice, clean log home with plenty of room to sleep our group of 10. Although the immediate neighbors next door were very friendly,
the rest of the neighborhood, not so much. Many unleashed dogs and one lady questioning us on who we were and advising us to stay close to the property. (in a threatening manner almost) So unfortunately we did not feel comfortable going on walks in the area. This was not too big of an issue, because we were gone much of the time exploring beautiful Alaska! But we do feel this is important for future occupants to be aware of.
If you like hiking, we strongly recommend hiking Flat Top Mountain in Anchorage and if going to Seward hiking up Exit Glacier. We loved our glacier cruise out of Whittier ...used the company Philips Tours. Absolutely beautiful and amazing to see all the glaciers, even saw some calving. Alaska does not disappoint!
Our family enjoyed staying at Sparky's in Wasilla very much. Having a large living room/kitchen area was super important to us and the kitchen was well-stocked with everything we needed. We enjoyed using the gas barbeque grill, and there were plenty of beds and bathrooms. Most important to us was that the cabin was super clean:) Communication with owners was good and we would love to stay there again if we go to Wasilla in the future!
We just returned from staying here for 7 days. The cabin is located far enough out of Anchorage that you don't feel like you're in the city. It is also just outside of Wasilla far enough that you feel like you're in the country, but close enough that you can grocery shop, dine-out, etc. Wasilla has a variety of places to dine out. It also has a nice grocery store, Wal-Mart, etc.
When comparing the cabin to other homes on VRBO I felt this home was a great value for the price. The living room was nicely furnished with a couch, loveseat and a recliner. There was also an additional recliner in the master bedroom. The cabin has 2 up-stairs bedrooms with queen beds and an additional bedroom downstairs with 2 twin beds.
There is also an additional room as you walk down the stairs that has a twin bed and a bunk bed in it. This room is not private, but would be good for small children or someone that doesn't need the extra privacy.
There are three bathrooms (2 up and 1 down). The floor does sag a little in the front of the cabin and there is a little touch up that could be down with some of the trim, but overall it is very functional. There was also coffee already in the cabin which was a nice bonus!
This is the first time that we've rented through VRBO and Carla was very helpful in explaining everything that we needed to do. She was always very quick to respond via email throughout the entire process.
This was our first time visiting Alaska. We really enjoyed going to Denali (it takes about 3 to 4 hours to drive to in light traffic, but it's a very scenic drive). We also took the train from Anchorage to Whittier and took a boat tour to Surprise Glacier. We couldn't get over the scenery (even being from Montana it's amazing). We also went to the Iditarod Museum that is just down the road from the cabin and road the sled dogs and dined at the Settlers Bay lodge which has a great view.
We also went to the Denali Park Zipline (which should not be confused with the one in Talkeetna). It just opened this year and was well worth it as it is near the park!
Our family group of 3 adult couples enjoyed our stay at this property. We had everything we needed and the location was close to everything. We had plenty of room to spread out and the home was just as described. The reservation and stay was seamless with no issues.
