About the property

4 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 9

From the moment you walk into the lofty, light-filled entrance hall of this contemporary home, you know you’re in a beautifully appointed ocean-front house, where nearly every room boasts a commanding view of Martha’s Vineyard, the Elizabeth Islands, Buzzard’s Bay, Horseneck and Goosewing Beaches and Little Compton’s legendary Town Beach. You’ll feel right at home cooking up meals simple or lavish in the roomy eat-in kitchen, complete with stylish cookware and dishware, upgraded appliances and everything you need in one well-organized space. The kitchen opens onto an expansive multi-level deck furnished with fashionable acacia wood dining and lounging furniture, equally suitable for lively entertaining or a quiet tete-a-tete, bird-watching, surfer watching, vessel spotting or just taking in breathtaking 180-degree panoramic views. With walls of glass, the living and dining rooms capture those same stunning views, connecting you to surrounding land and seascapes no matter where you are. An open floor plan, handsome oak floors, a massive stone fireplace and beachy furniture make these spaces equally comfortable and practical whether lounging or hosting a party.

With a soaring cathedral ceiling, private deck for star gazing or solitude, unparalleled views inside and out and king bed, the master bedroom on the top floor of the house is a true hideaway, a place to wake up gently with the rising sun or sleep late with the sound of the ocean waves crashing on the rocks below. On the main floor, the Pink Bedroom features floor-to-ceiling operable windows for maximum light and views, a queen-sized bed and built-in closet. The cozy Blue Room also features a queen bed and closet. The bedrooms share an upgraded full bath with 50's-themed decor. Downstairs on the first floor, a large room with separate entrance looks out onto the ocean and opens out to the private shore. In addition to a roomy glass-top desk facing the views, the home office suite features a convertible futon couch, queen bed, and full bathroom with double shower. Of course with hi-speed Internet throughout the house, a working vacation at this location is always an option.

Getting to your private rock beach is easy with a convenient stairway leading to the water’s edge and featuring a small landing, just big enough for two people to enjoy cocktails above the surf. And after dinner you can toast marshmallows around the rock campfire at the base of the cliff.

This one-of-a-kind house is located a short walk to the Town Beach, biking distance to The Commons, Sakonnet Point and Sakonnet Lobster. Also nearby are Wishing Stone Farm Market, Walker’s farm market and eatery, Young’s nursery and roadside market. Westport and Lee’s Market, the locally owned gourmet supermarket, are just up the road. On the weekends, no less than five farmers markets open each spring and summer.

In addition to wi-fi, the house comes complete with cable TV with streaming option. Sumptuous all-cotton linens, towels and beach towels are included in the rental price; each bed is appointed with multiple pillows, a cotton blanket and a down comforter. The house stays cool on hot summer days with wafting sea breezes, enabled by operable windows, multiple doors and ceiling and fans. Cool nights heat up quickly with silent electric heat. All this and a two-car garage. An amazing opportunity to truly experience ocean living at its most luxurious.

PLEASE NOTE: Zoning ordinances in Little Compton prohibit the rental of residential properties as wedding venues. We deeply regret any inconvenience.

About Adrienne Garreau

The Garreau house has been the family vacation home since 1953 when Beau Garreau built a modest two-bedroom bungalow for him and his wife and son. Joel grew up spending every summer leaping rock to rock along the edge of the water; clamming in Tunipus Pond and exploring the open fields and marshes around the house with his summer friends. In 1975 Beau and Glo expanded the house to its current size. Joel and Adrienne live in Virginia but continued the family tradition of summer vacations in Little Compton, bringing the next generation of Garreaus with them. Their two daughters grew up here also and, even though now busy with their own lives, they each come every year for some part of the summer. With the arrival in 2017 of Louis, a third generation of Garreaus is now enjoying summer vacations in Little Compton. Joel works in the Office of the President of Arizona State University in Tempe, where he spends the the spring semester. Adrienne works in community development in the county where they live in Virginia. When they are not in Virginia or Arizona, they spend as much time as they can in Little Compton.

Adrienne Garreau purchased this house in 2003

Our stay

  • 3 of 5

Location was very nice. Beach was great, but tiny when the tide was in. Water was clean and nice to swim. Very quiet town.

We enjoyed our time. Some of the items in the house I expected to use were not usable for ex: Bikes , grill and the very rocky beach

Owner's Response: Michael Thanks for your nice review. I am sorry the grill was unusable while you were there. I will have our property manager look into it and replace as needed. The bikes are old. One is my husband's first bike when he was 8! I will remove from our website the reference to bikes.

Stay was too short!

  • 5 of 5

We spent the entire summer in the northern states, and were fullish to have booked only 3 weeks at this beautiful house. The location is absolutely superb: quite Victorian style village, ocean front, lots of green just in front of the house, lovely neighbors. The house is not new, but is clean with all utilities working properly. Enjoying the ocena breeze on the open patio was one of the best experiences for us. There is a beach nearby, very safe and comfortable. The nearby villages present opportunities for farmer markets' shopping. Another advantage of the house is its proximity to Boston! We truly recommend you pick this house and the owner is online 24/7, or she will make her house manager available in case of any questions.

Wonderful family vacation

  • 5 of 5

Outstanding...this place is even more breathtaking than the pictures depict and do no justice to how serene, peaceful and scenic it truly is. The home is up to date and had everything we could possibly need and more. It's obvious a lot of care has been taken to provide a wonderful stay and that's what we experienced. I just want to thank Adrienne for being so warm, consistent and accommodating from start to end. The customer service was wonderful and Al (the handyman) took good care of us and a pleasure to deal with. If you are considering this property in Little Compton, don't hesitate, let me tell you... you won't be disappointed. We have already booked for next year :>) Thanks for making this vacation one of our favorites!!

A Very Happy Thanksgiving

  • 5 of 5

Our family (6 adults and 2 dogs) spent five glorious days over Thanksgiving at this wonderful property. Adrienne, our host, was genuinely interested in making our stay the best it could be - even going so far as delivering a brand new Crock Pot when I inquired as to whether there would be a slow cooker at the house! In addition, the property manager (a great guy and well worth having a chat) lives only a few doors down and is able to answer any questions about the property and the community.

But the real star was the spectacular view - from nearly every room a panorama of water and sky. Early risers were treated to glorious sunrises and because our stay was near the end of November, 5 pm meant cocktail hour accompanied by the full moon rising directly in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows. As an added bonus, the weather was unseasonably warm, allowing us to open the windows on our last day and fully enjoy the sights and sounds of living by the water's edge.

In addition to all the positive points listed above, the property had a well-eqipped kitchen, comfortable beds and nice linens, was dog-friendly, and could easily accomodate 8 people. The big back lawn is perfect for playing with the dogs or flying a kite. Although we didn't feel the need to venture much further than the beautiful sandy beach down the road, the area has much to explore.

It may be helpful to know the master suite on the top floor does not have it's own bathroom making it necessary to trek downstairs and across the living area to access the main floor shower and toilet. In our case we were all family so it was not a problem. It is also worth noting for those who may be staying in the colder months, the house was comfortably warm although the lower level bedroom/office suite remained a little chilly (although not unbearable) throughout our stay. Please understand we consider these minor issues!

I have absolutely no reservations about recommending this property. Thanks go to Adrienne for making us feel so welcome! We love the beach house and hope we can return some day soon, perhaps in warmer weather so we can take advantage of longer days and cocktail hour on the back deck.
