Stretch out and relax with all the comforts. The Starlight offers two bedrooms with one queen-size and one double bed, a full bath, a living area, and a full kitchen. Flat-screen cable TV, DVD, free wireless. Watch the light change on the mountain from your front-porch rocker!
It's the best of all worlds for your getaway. You're in town, so you're not subject to being stranded in a remote location if the elements turn against you. You can stroll and dine and shop and soak up the unique character of Fort Davis, and you're a quick drive from Texas' most dramatic mountain vistas. Fifteen breathtaking miles from the McDonald Observatory. Twenty miles from the art Mecca of Marfa. Thirty-two miles from a refreshing swim in the spring-fed mountain pool at Balmorhea. You're surrounded by history both inside--in a past life, Casa Hermosa served our country as a barracks for Army Air Force pilots during World War I---and outside--the rocks on our mountains are 500 million years old, and once served as hiding places for Apache and Comanche warriors.
If we can answer any questions, please let us know. We look forward to making you welcome.
My wife Donna Johnson and I are the proud owners of Casa Hermosa. We are both authors. I write fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, and Donna is best known for her memoir Holy Ghost Girl. We visit west Texas frequently and have fallen in love with Fort Davis and the surrounding area. During one memorable visit, we stayed in Casa Hermosa, and fell so much in love that we bought the place.
Kirk Wilson purchased this house in 2015
The Davis Mountains are rich in history, and Casa Hermosa has long been a part of that history. The house was originally a barracks for World War I Army Air Force pilots stationed in Marfa. It was one of the storied "barracks houses" moved into Fort Davis early in the 20th century. While it maintains its historic charm, it has been upgraded with all the modern comforts and conveniences. If you're looking for smaller accommodations, check out our Casa Hermosa King Suite, perfect for a single traveler or a couple.
Casa Hermosa is an ideal home base for your west Texas adventures. You're an easy walk from everything in Fort Davis, and a spectacularly scenic drive from all this rugged country has to offer: mountain vistas, the McDonald Observatory, the contemporary art in Marfa, the unique western character of Alpine, the Big Bend parks, and more.
We liked your cabin a lot but the heater drove me crazy 😳The way it cracks and creeks all night long!! And the guest next door for the first two nights was a little loud but ok. The Saturday night guests had a dog that howled for hours while they where gone😱😱but all in all we injoyed our stay. Thank you
We enjoyed our stay at Casa Hermosa. It is a quiet, friendly place with everything you need to feel right at home.
We absolutely LOVED staying at this cozy home. Everything was very clean and the house provided everything we needed! It was very quiet. The house was just perfect for our Thanksgiving.
A great home away from home. Everything you need. Clean, comfortable and pet friendly. Enjoyed our stay. Great location for doing other things in the area
We had a wonderful three night stay in the Starlight Suite. It was comfortably furnished, very clean and has a full kitchen. We cooked dinner two of the three nights. We appreciated the ample living and dining area so that we could relax together in the evenings. The location was very quiet. If we are lucky enough to return to Ft Davis, we would stay in the Starlight Suite again.
My family had a lovely stay here recently: unlike most rentals, the beds were comfortable! We always appreciate rentals that let us bring our dogs, and we had some lovely walks in the neighborhood. I only have a few comments 1. The yard is not fully fenced, and this was not clear from the description. 2. The house is split between the two-bedroom large apartment and the smaller king suite, with a shared wall between. Again, this was not clear from the description but normally would have been an issue for us that would have us booking elsewhere. Luckily, our co-tenants were lovely and their dogs and ours stayed quiet in the evening. In the end, our stay was very comfortable, but future renters should be aware of the two points highlighted above.
