Lovely, newly decorated, beautifully furnished garden apartment, with its own entrance and parking, in private gardens and a picturesque woodland setting. Two bedrooms, bathroom and comfortable large sitting room.
Home away from home in a historic former schoolhouse just minutes from downtown Charlottesville. The luxurious private apartment, which has its own entrance, is decorated with the owner's antique furniture and 18th and 19th century natural history prints. and includes a microwave, refrigerator and Keurig coffee maker. There are also complimentary snacks, fruit and breakfast items on hand. The sitting room has plenty of seating and a flat-screen monitor with a selection of several hundred DVDs (please note that there is no cable television service available here). There is also a large built-in desk if you need to get some work done. Both spacious bedrooms have seating and plenty of closet space. The comfortable beds have memory foam mattresses and there are towels and linens from Pottery Barn. The house is in a woodland setting and has a mountain view in the winter. The apartment is professionally cleaned and serviced with high quality fresh linens and towels before each arrival. The bathroom is stocked with complimentary, skin-sensitive cosmetic items, including shampoo, conditioner and shower gel by Beekman 1802.
The property is conveniently located for downtown Charlottesville (about 15 minutes by car) and UVA, as well as Crozet and Ivy, and many local attractions, including historic Monticello, numerous wineries and vineyards, Starr Hill brewery, western wedding venues, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Shenandoah National Park, Skyline Drive and the American Shakespeare Center in Staunton.
There are two extremely friendly dogs living on the premises.
I'm a writer who has lived in many different places -- Oxford, London, the French Pyrenees, Los Angeles, and now lovely Charlottesville in Virginia -- and I enjoy travelling and meeting the travellers I host. I am passionate about writing, books, film, art and nature, to name a few things, and I love to practise speaking French.
Simon Banner purchased this apartment in 2014
My friends and I came up for a fun weekend of wineries and relaxing; this was the perfect place! Simon was so nice, and both dogs (Pebbles & Snowy) were very sweet! Very impressed and will recommend this house to anyone!
We were warmly greeted by Simon and his two friendly dogs when we arrived. Simon went over all we needed to know about the apartment and gave us a quick tour. The apartment was tastefully decorated and meticulously clean. We visited Monticello while we were there and were grateful for a homey place to return to after a long day. We chatted with Simon about the area and he had a few recommendations for dinner that were nearby. There was quite a large selection of DVDs from which to choose when it was time to wind down for the night. I would definitely recommend the property.
My wife, 2-year-old son, and I stayed in Simon's Garden Apartment for the weekend while visiting Charlottesville, just a few miles away. We had a great time. Simon was a wonderful host. The fridge was stocked and the shelves were overflowing with movies to watch. His home and guest apartment are beautiful. We can't wait to return again to see the gardens next year. Our son and Simon's dog Snowy became buddies. Both she and his older brother Pebbles were very sweet and a joy to be around.
We will definitely stay here again. We visited the area for wine tastings and an event at Veritas Winery. This location was perfect. 4 adults and a baby, and we fit fairly comfortably (after figuring out that the pack n play fit into the closet!) Simon was an absolute delight, and a very gracious host! There was a multitude of snacks and coffee, and more dvds than I have ever seen. (This is because there is no actual tv service. The WiFi was spotty, which made streaming the Olympics a bit difficult, but we managed!) There is no kitchen, so you have to wash dishes in the bathroom sink (when we were leaving Simon told us to just leave them!) The window in the bathroom could use a better covering as it looks out to the main path/ garden, and you feel a little exposed. Again, we had a great time and will stay here again!
I found the house to be lovely and charming. It was clean, well stocked with coffee, tea, and many other amenities. Many movies were available, and, of course, Simon Banner was the perfect host, willing to stay up later for our arrival. I would easily rate this getaway in the top 1% of all the places I've stayed in the US and abroad, over the past 40 years. I'm already planning a return trip, and certainly will stay there again, with my wife.
Two college friends and I enjoyed our three-night stay at this lovely garden apartment. The decor was delightful and the owner, Simon, was charming and very gracious. His two dogs, Pebbles and Snowy, were an added bonus!
