Comfy, stylish Garden Apt in quiet area close to Charlottesville

  • 5 of 5
Verified Stay

The Garden Apt at the Old Schoolhouse is delightful. Beautifully appointed, with lots of extra amenities that enhance the peaceful, country atmosphere.

The bedrooms are very comfortable with elegant linens, and the three beds provide lots of flexibility. We were a group three friends and it was the perfect arrangement. The pantry was generously stocked with fresh fruit, coffee, beverages, and snacks of all kinds. The lovely sitting area and crisp, stylish bathroom round out a perfect cottage atmosphere. In addition to proximity to Charlottesville, the surrounding towns offer diverse activities, including wine tasting, interesting restaurants, and historical sites. Our winter visit discouraged outdoor activities, but the gorgeous scenery would truly lend itself to hikes and other sports in warmer months. No problem with lack of television as the enormous CD collection includes just about every movie and TV series of note. We immediately wished we had several extra days to spend just to take advantage of that treat!

Saving the best feature of the Old Schoolhouse til last, Simon Banner is a terrific host! He provided every detail needed for a smooth arrival, gave excellent recommendations for local activities, and graciously handled our barrage of questions about his home and experiences. We are already looking forward to a return visit.

First Christmas in Virginia

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely place to stay over Christmas while visiting our family. Simon was there to greet us when we pulled in late the first night, walking us through the basics of our apartment. He has created such a warm and inviting spot for his guests with all the special "treats" to make you feel at home. The website pictures are true to what you can expect. Both bedrooms are quite spacious, with plenty of room for hanging clothes or unpacking your personal items on shelves or in the dresser. Everything is clean, crisp and very refreshing. Simon was always available, working outside in his gardens, and of course, we became good friends with Snowy and Pebbles. The location is great for getting around to the many surrounding areas of interest. We highly recommend this Garden Apartment to anyone looking for a lovely atmosphere on their next get-away. You won't be disappointed. We've made a new friend in Virginia, and yes, Simon, we will be back. Until the next time, thank you for a wonderful experience. We enjoyed it thoroughly.

Cute and welcoming

We were warmly greeted by Simon and his two friendly dogs when we arrived. Simon went over all we needed to know about the apartment and gave us a quick tour. The apartment was tastefully decorated and meticulously clean. We visited Monticello while we were there and were grateful for a homey place to return to after a long day. We chatted with Simon about the area and he had a few recommendations for dinner that were nearby. There was quite a large selection of DVDs from which to choose when it was time to wind down for the night. I would definitely recommend the property.

An amazing, relaxing weekend in a beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

My wife, 2-year-old son, and I stayed in Simon's Garden Apartment for the weekend while visiting Charlottesville, just a few miles away. We had a great time. Simon was a wonderful host. The fridge was stocked and the shelves were overflowing with movies to watch. His home and guest apartment are beautiful. We can't wait to return again to see the gardens next year. Our son and Simon's dog Snowy became buddies. Both she and his older brother Pebbles were very sweet and a joy to be around.

Lovely peaceful place

We will definitely stay here again. We visited the area for wine tastings and an event at Veritas Winery. This location was perfect. 4 adults and a baby, and we fit fairly comfortably (after figuring out that the pack n play fit into the closet!) Simon was an absolute delight, and a very gracious host! There was a multitude of snacks and coffee, and more dvds than I have ever seen. (This is because there is no actual tv service. The WiFi was spotty, which made streaming the Olympics a bit difficult, but we managed!) There is no kitchen, so you have to wash dishes in the bathroom sink (when we were leaving Simon told us to just leave them!) The window in the bathroom could use a better covering as it looks out to the main path/ garden, and you feel a little exposed. Again, we had a great time and will stay here again!
