Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday chalet in Flagstaff - Artist's Chalet

Chalet style charmer with 4 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, sleeps 8 in Kachina Village.

This visually enchanting Artist's Chalet is a picture perfect Flagstaff retreat. The home is located in Kachina Village in a quiet cul de sac 8 miles from historic downtown Flagstaff. There is a semi private and safe SNOWPLAY AREA including a hill right out the back of the driveway!

This unique and eclectic home has many of the owners paintings and carved and painted furniture showcased throughout the home, as well as many local artists paintings and artwork gracing the home. It also features an expansive entertaining deck to enjoy the garden oasis and tall pines while relaxing in a swinging chair, or outdoor firepit. Upstairs skylights and lots of windows provide plenty of day light and an evening solar system view.

An outdoor paradise, surrounded by amazing hiking trails, excellent cross country skiing, world class mountain biking, and canyoneering. Just minutes from historic downtown Flagstaff, you can find native culture, fine arts and great restaurants and epic winter sports activities at the Arizona Snowbowl and Flagstaff Nordic center. Great adventures and memories are just a short trip in your car! The red rocks of Sedona, Monument Valley, Wupatki National Monument, Painted Desert, the Arizona wine country, kayaking on the Verde river, bumping along dirt roads in the Arizona back country while discovering wildlife, alpine lakes and high desert vistas, and of course, the epic views of the Grand Canyon!

The Artist's Chalet is dog friendly with approval of the property manager. The home has a fenced in back yard that many a critter has played in. Please note that forest is a wonderful place for dogs to explore but don't under-estimate the vastness of this wilderness section. Miles and miles of forest, canyons and steep cliffs offer opportunities for adventure but easy for a critter to get lost (and you too!).

About Matt Nelson, Property Manager.

I am an artist, outdoor enthusiast and a social worker! This house has been such an extension of all these things.

I've traveled around the world and have had the pleasure of staying in family homes, I'm so happy and to be able to offer my home to you!

Matt Nelson, Property Manager. purchased this chalet in 1996

Why Matt Nelson, Property Manager. chose Arizona

My former wife and I fell in love with this home in the forest back in 96. I made my name as both an artist and a social worker. The Grandon Art gallery was a fixture of Flagstaff for many years and fostered acclaimed artists of the region. Many of these artists, as well as my own work hang on the walls of the House. The original drive way was in the front and there where no plants other than the pines! This is the first year that the apple tree bore fruit!

What makes this chalet unique

The adventure starts from the front porch! Whether you are interested in a meandering hike along a seasonal stream, exploring remote canyons, discovering a hidden waterfall, or canyoneering with ropes and narrow chilly slot canyon swims, you can get there, without starting your car. From the front porch Iv'e seen coyote, fox, elk, bear, porcupine and javalina that have snuffled in the flowers! In the winter time, the sledding hills are spectacular for kids, plus cross country skiing or snowshoeing gives you access to a silent wilderness. The mountain biking is outrageous! Tremendous trails for all levels.

Flagstaff is such a charming mountain town with a vibrant arts, dining and music scene. You might find yourself enjoying great bluegrass music sitting outdoors on the patio of Flag Brewing Company chatting with local artists or river guides reliving the epic run at Hance rapid or lava falls in the Grand Canyon. You will fall in love with this mountain town!

A wonderful, unique home.

Loved this home. The ambiance is so heartfelt. Amazing art work throughout the home (personal fave is the ravens in the downstairs bath). We visited both Sedona and the Grand Canyon this weekend. The "Chalet" is super convenient to both. We had dinner in downtown Flagstaff and again appreciated the quick drive home. Highly recommend this wonderful place to stay. Thank you to Matt who was easy to communicate with before and during our stay.

Upon entering the house we were welcomed with a multitude of beautiful eclectic art pieces. These were done by the owner of the property and other various artists. The home is roomy and cozy. The beds are very comfortable. The water pressure is fantastic not to mention the water temperature is exceedingly good. The tile and wooden floors are a very nice touch. The property manager Matt is one if of the nicest people you could ever meet with great knowledge of the area and great suggestions on local eateries. The Wi-Fi is more than adequate, which is surprising for a rental. The kitchen is awesome we took advantage of it on several nights during our stay. The dogs area outside is another plus. I could let my dogs out without worry of their safety. I honestly cant find one con. The house is in a quite neighborhood, nestled in a beautiful setting. All linen was clean plenty of towels. The complimentary bottle of wine was a nice touch. The house is in a fantastic location for sightseeing the grand canyon, Sedona and the meteor crater. The local grocery is just a short drive away. My wife, friends and I could not have found a better place. We will be back. INCREDIBLE. Thank you.

A+++ for Families

We had a wonderful and relaxing time. Gave the kids a disposable camera instead of tablet or phone, they had a blast and made some great memories. Would definately rent again.

A wonderful 50th celebration

  • 5 of 5

We spent 2 weeks in this charming home in the pines to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. We at times had 11 family members present and the Chalet accommodated us well. It is well furnished, clean, and features many interesting art pieces. The kids loved the whimsical outdoor lights and oddities. We were surprised that the large screen TVs have Netflix but no television coverage. The cottage is situated with easy access to Sedona, Flagstaff, and all of the northern AZ sights and amenities. Our kids especially loved the Flagstaff Extreme Adventure Course nearby and the Slide Rock State Park. The Pasto restaurant patio in downtown Flagstaff was a wonderful place for our 50th family dinner. Matt (mgr.) was helpful and even provided a bouquet of flowers upon entering to celebrate our event -- a nice touch. Loved our stay.

Lovely chalet in a cauldasac setting with a few other houses off the main road.

  • 4 of 5

It was a great location for our vacation plans. Easy access to Grand Canyon, Anteloupe Canyon, Sedona, Winslow...The house inside was charming- and unique-

And pretty clean- the outside was a little disappointing compared to the pictures on line- the porch and the surronding property need some well deserved attention to equal the quality of the picture on line. Also there is no AC- there are ceilings fans- not a problem but good to know - the upstairs bathroom Is charming - but the shower in the tub is a little dangerous - there is a walk in shower on first floor - and large screen TV in family room only has Netflix etc... No cable channels... Upstairs TV only for blue ray. These points are not meant to be critical - just to help when planning your trip on line - each guest has individual wants/needs and I Think the reviews help immensely to find the right fit! All in all we had a lovely stay...thank you MATT for making yourself accessible if needed.....

Very memorable trip - excellent property

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed here during our recent visit to the Grand Canyon. The accommodations were very nice, cozy, clean and well maintained.

The owner provided excellent customer service well into the night on the day before as I was "email challenged".

Grounds: Enjoyed roasting marsh mellows in the fire pit as well as sipping wine on the wrap around deck. Very peaceful surroundings that had the feeling of a true get away.

All four bedrooms were fully stocked. was pleasantly surprised at the availability of shampoo/conditioner as well as bath soap.

Kitchens were well stocked and my daughters enjoyed cooking in the double oven.

Keep in mind.. the artist chalet is surrounded by lush greenery, so we had a quick educational moment on spiders which were present but not harmful.

When they say this is an artistic chalet, it is indeed that. The attention to details of eclectic artwork was nicely decorated throughout the home as well as some pieces were for sale.

Location is close enough to the grand canyon (about 1.5 hrs away); and 15 mins from Flagstaff. The walmart was less than 10 mins from the property with the nearest gas station a mere 3 mins from the house. The kids also enjoyed the community park.

All in all, my family enjoyed our stay and will forever be a part of our memories as this beautiful home was the spot, my handsome fiancé proposed to me.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful home with my family..
