Villa Oceanus is a beautiful renovated stone house in the UNESCO-protected old town of Vis. Its charming character and warmth, with its handmade furniture in larch and beech, and stone and wooden floors provide a welcoming and relaxing hideaway for a perfect vacation.

The ground floor accommodates 1 double room, 1 small twin bedded room and an elegant bathroom, doors lead to the open air patio fully equipped with a summer kitchen and dining area incorporating a traditional stone grill and a cosy lounge under a wooden pergola. Enjoy the relaxed mediterranean atmosphere in total privacy.

The upper floor is a spacious open plan kitchen and dining area leading to the sun terrace with views of Vis. Perfect place for breakfast!

Good location, well set-out house, comfortable enough.

The location and build of the house cannot be faulted- it has been modernised inside but still retains its charm. I felt it could use re-equipping somewhat; it is marketed as a luxury rental but a few things were decidedly not so.... the 2 sun loungers on the terrace upstairs were rusty and broken down to the point of being unusable, and on the same terrace there were rather uncomfortable (one broken) dining chairs. An old dining table parasol had been chucked on the roof making it feel a bit scruffy. There is no mirror anywhere on a table/dressing table which was a pain when trying to do hair/make up. in the master bedroom there is a random single bed in addition to the double bed. Can't help feeling the space would be better used for dressing table/desk etc? Also, you can't see the TVs from the sofa!

I wouldn't normally gripe about these relatively minor/ silly things, only that I was expecting and paying for something exceptionally luxurious, and it did disappoint a little because of this. All it would take is a little outlay and attention to detail though; the place is really nice other than this!

Owner's Response: Dear Elisabeth, Many thanks for staying with us and your kind review which is very much appreciated. We have evaluated the situation and agree with your comments. Immediate action has been taken on the points raised ( sun loungers , broken chair and parasol exchanged) and we would like to apologize for any inconvenience caused. As we have a large mirror in the spacious bathroom next door we have not considered a mirror in the bedroom. The extra bed, in the master bedroom room is often requested for children and serves as sofa when not needed. Beautifully restored house in perfect location on island of Vis. Highly recommend.

The service from our initial inquiry right through til our departure was first class. Monika responded immediately to my queries when booking the house and whilst on Vis we were looked after well by Ivana.

The house was perfect; it was 5 minutes walk from the ferry port and close to mini supermarkets, reastautants and local amenities. There are 2 beaches in walking distance, the first which is 10 mins away. The 2nd walk to the beach takes you along the sea front, past the yachts, cafes and restaurants and through the old town 'Kut'. It was a good 30 minutes walk if not more...it was worth it and we often stopped for refreshments along the way. Or of course you could use the 2 bikes belonging to the house and cycle(I guess hire some if you are a larger group). For the rest of the time, we hired a small RIB; VIs and its coastline is truly stunning and we often found ourselves in deserted coves in peak season. The water is unbelievable clear and we spent our days, going from cove to cove. The snorkelling was fantastic.

The house itself worked extremely well for us; family of 5. The 3rd single bed can only be in the double bedroom. Bathroom and kitchen are of a high standard and the air conditioning was very welcomed. The kitchen is on the 1st floor and is a great space with a large square table and high ceiling. The entrance takes you into the first outdoor space where there is a built in BBQ, sofas and also a table to sit 6. Perfect spot for dinner, playing cards and relaxing. On the upstairs terrace you can catch a glimpse of the sea and has good views. You are of course amongst other houses - this is not for those seeking total isolation- but we would definitely choose this house again and its location without any doubt.

The house is located in the center of the old town of Vis, which is a UNESCO world heritage protected are. A maze of narrow alleyways and steps decorated with colorful flower pots wind around the villa. With its distinctive Mediterranean charm, the town offers many restaurants and bars all with excellent local dishes and wines. Savour the delights of local fresh fish from the fish market, or the fruit and vegetable market next door. Just walking through the town, with its many ancient and historic features and monuments, is a delight that makes a vacation in Vis a real pleasure.

The beach is just a short stroll from the house, or you can take time out to explore the island’s more remote beaches (also sandy beaches) and bays as well as local villages with their historic fortresses and villas.

There is no parking at the villa. Vehicles have to be parked in the streets of the old town.
