A Shining Example

  • 5 of 5

Basically for our first trip to Ireland this cottage exceeded our expectations. On arrival the owners greeted us with a welcoming bottle of red and a fresh-baked artisan loaf. And things only got better. The cottage was a delight. Beautifully furnished and comfortable. If the proof of really great accommodation lies in the ability to feel truly relaxed by doing nothing and just admiring the view, then this is just the cottage. Would I recommend it to friends? Naturally. But it was so good, I'd prefer to keep it a secret! A truly memorable holiday.

Incredible location at the entrance to Cobh Harbor. Very quiet and peaceful.

This was an amazing vacation. The property was in excellent condition, and Malcolm met us at the property exactly when we expected him. The views from the living room out to the Celtic Sea blew us away every time we walked in. You can spend endless hours enjoying the view. The property is quite large, with 3 bedrooms and two baths, and a spacious den as well as a living room. There is easy access to shopping and local restaurants that we really enjoyed. We also ate in and the cooking appliances are in great shape.

We would recommend this property without reservation and we look forward to many return visits!

Just Amazing

  • 5 of 5

One of the most relaxing and refreshing breaks we have ever had. From the moment we walked through the door of Lighthouse Cottage and recieved a warm welcome from Gerrie and Malcolm we just knew we were going to have a wonderful holiday. The cottage was perfect in every way and spotlessly clean . The views were magnificent. If you need refreshed and revived go for a break to Lighthouse Cottage. Winston & Gaye

Simply Perfection

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was exquisite, the views are beyond imaginable, the rooms were wonderfully decorated, extremely clean, and everything in working condition (including WIFI). The patio was a haven to watch the most incredible (and massive) ships pass by. The neighbors (Gordon is a GEM!) were so friendly and the town so charming. And the owners Malcolm and Gerrie were delightful and so helpful and available to answer any questions throughout our stay.

The small town of Whitegate is just about 10 minutes away and has a SPAR where you can get pretty much all the provisions you would need. Midleton is about 20 minutes away and has a wonderful Farmers Market on Saturdays, and quite a large grocery store with more variety and selection.

Our family made quite a few excursions to Cobh, Kinsale, Ballycotton, and Blarney, all within an hours ride or less from the cottage.

We recommend this property fully, and hope to return one day soon.

Lighthouse perfect

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely week away from it all at this property. Just my husband and I. The views out of the living room is out of this world!!! And better than any picture could make you believe. The property was super clean on arrival and had lots of luxuries e.g. binoculars ( take a second pair - you are going to fight over it!!!) telescope and Wifi. The kitchen was well furnished with all utensils, pots and pans, microwave, oven, kettle and toaster. We did miss a coffee machine and a BBQ but luckily did pack in our portable bbq and the kitchen had a plunger.

The courtyard in the centre is great for windy days and we were out on the front patio when it was sunny. Was great to leave the door open and hear the waves crushing below.

The house is just next to the lighthouse which leads to the entrance to Europe's largest natural harbour. We had a great time looking at the boats passing through and researching their properties. A bird book is also a recommendation - great to study up on all the birds passing by.

Whitegate is just about 4-5km and has a SPAR for groceries and Middleton is 15km with a great variety of restaurants and shops.

All in all this was a fantastic quiet property for a great relaxing holiday THANKS MALCOLM AND GERRIE!!!!

Totally exceeded our already high expectations!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage and surroundings were breathtaking! The cottage was very tastefully decorated and included everything you could possibly need. It was well-maintained and spotlessly clean. It was hard to tear ourselves away from the large picture window facing the ocean to do any touring. It is so peaceful, but at the same time, we were made to feel part of the little community at Roche's Point. The neighbors next door and down the hill went out of their way to introduce themselves and invite us in for a chat. They were also very helpful with any questions we had. The owners greeted us with homemade bread and wine and explained how very thing worked. They were available by e-mail for any additional questions. Wifi is also available...a nice bonus. Although this cottage is a bit off the beaten path, we were able to take day trips as far as Mizen Head and Dingle Peninsula. Cobh and Kinsale are very nice towns to visit. There is a great restaurant just a few miles away called Pepperstack Bistro connected with Rosie's bar and a nice grocery in Whitegate, also close by. We would definitely recommend this place. It was a wonderful experience.

Two beaches are within a 10 minute walk, one of these beaches is virtually a private beach and is reached by walking over a farmers field. An excellent shop and local pubs and restaurant are within a 3 mile reach. A renowned Farmers Market is held every Saturday in Midleton which is 10 miles away. The world famous Ballymaloe Restaurant and Cookery School are within a 30 minute drive from the property.
