Overview

About the property

Historic Bed & Breakfast, Filled with Antiques, Downtown, Immaculately Restored

Looking for more than the typical vacation home? This beautiful historic landmark is one of the most well-known homes in Salt Lake City. Our rooms are LIGHTLY themed and they each have their own private bathroom. The common areas are filled with classic antiques and we pride ourselves on the ambiance and the comfort that this home provides to our guests.

The Ellerbeck Mansion is conveniently located at the corner of 3rd Avenue and B Street, in a quiet residential neighborhood just under five blocks from the center of downtown Salt Lake City, including the convention center. Guests can walk to Historic Temple Square, the Salt Palace convention center, museums, Family History Library, downtown shopping and dining. The mansion is a short 13-minute drive from the Salt Lake International Airport and less than 30 minutes from our famous ski resorts.

We are big enough to meet your business and travel needs, yet small enough to provide you with the intimate grace of Victorian times. Breakfast is can either be taken in your room or in the large formal dining room, and we have very flexible hours for when we serve it. A continental-style breakfast comes with the price of the room, or you can chose to pay a little extra and we'll bring in a fancy breakfast made by a master chef at a restaurant down the street.

AUTUMN WINDS ROOM: This room is our classiest. It is barely themed and it's filled with some of our nicest antiques and decor. It's one of the larger rooms in the Mansion, and it's located on the upper floor right off of the formal reading area and it has its own coal-burning fireplace and its own private full bathroom in the room. The 8-post king-size bed has super high-quality bedding and linens and there is plenty of space for spreading out.

Guests may use the living room to relax, read, or work. Guests may also use the small fireplace room upstairs, which is like another small living room. Guests are also welcome to use the dining room and the full kitchen, as long as they clean up after themselves. There is a large shaded back yard that guests may relax in. We will either have a full-time caretaker on premises or one that lives within a few blocks. Either way, we'll be there to greet you and get you settled in, provided you coordinate your check-in time with us ahead of time.

ABOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD: The Avenues District is the historic district for Salt Lake City. It's filled with all sorts of mansions and manor homes and has several eclectic restaurants and shops scattered among the homes. It's a very quiet and affluent neighborhood and it will lend itself to a perfect bed & breakfast experience for you!

Why Cami chose The Avenues

The Ellerbeck Mansion is one of the oldest homes in the state of Utah. It's been perfectly restored to it's original glory of when it was built in 1892 by Henrietta Ellerbeck. Thomas was the original clerk to President Brigham Young and died in 1895. Henrietta was Thomas' 3rd plural wife and lived in the house until 1903, when she sold it to the Armstrong family, who eventually turned it into a Bed & Breakfast. The rich history of this home, along with its antique ambiance, make it the perfect bed and breakfast for those who are looking for a classic mansion with all of the modern amenities.

What makes this estate unique

The Ellerbeck Mansion is unique because of its location, since it's a mere 4 blocks from the center of the city. It's in the historic home district of the city, so it doesn't have an urban feeling at all, yet it's so close to everything in the city.

One of the most unique features of the Ellerbeck Mansion is the carriage house out back. It can host small and large events in it, including weddings, corporate retreats, company training retreats, etc. The VRBO listing page for that events center is www.vrbo.com/825400.

Wonderful Innkeeper & Great Room

  • 5 of 5

This room was one of the larger ones in the B&B. Very nicely decorated. I can se3e why they named it the Autumn Room, since the color scheme and paintings reminded me of Fall, but it wasn't over-themed by any means. I also liked the Calm Seas Room.

Great breakfast

  • 5 of 5

Very happy with this bed & breakfast, and this room in particular. It was themed in a very classy way and it was probably the largest room in the house. The innkeeper was very friendly and her breakfast was incredible. 10 stars!

Nicest room in the house

  • 5 of 5

The Innkeeper was very nice and took us on a tour of all of the rooms and I think we picked the right room - this room is very cozy! It has lots of natural light and it is located off of the small library area. We enjoyed sitting in the library in front of the fireplace.

Enjoyed our stay

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I enjoyed our stay. Regan, worked hard to accommodate our needs and make our stay as best she could. The breakfast was good, and room was clean. I would like to offer a couple of suggestions: 1. The room needs to be warm when folks check in. 2. A small vanity table would help by the sink and vanity mirror. Keep up the good work!.

Beautiful Room

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for our 13th wedding anniversary and we had to leave a review because it was so nice. The furniture was beautiful antiques and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was one of the best meals we've ever had and the innkeeper was extremely friendly and attentive. Absolutely the nicest B&B we've ever stayed in.

The location was okay, but the lack of care taking was unacceptable!

  • 1 of 5

We spent 5 nights at this B&B recently during a convention. The location was pretty good as we could walk to the convention centre in less than 1/2

hour. However, the caretaker did not do any type of cleaning in our room, the garbages were never emptied and we even ran out of toilet paper and had to borrow from another room. There was not a lot of thought put into the breakfast either. The same items such as fruit and pastry sat out the whole time we were there (tip of the day...if nobody eats it for 3 days you might want to try something new and different! ). I will definitely not be recommending this B&B to anyone.

Owner's Response: In all of our years running bed & breakfasts, this was one of the most difficult, entitled, rude guests that we've ever come across. We received countless complaints about her by the other guests saying she was horrible and insulting to them. We received nothing but praise from all of the other guests that week (especially about the breakfast). She hurled insults at everyone she met like it was second nature. Some people are only happy when they are making everyone around them miserable, and Sue is one of these people.
