About the property

Historic Bed & Breakfast, Filled with Antiques, Downtown, Immaculately Restored

Looking for more than the typical vacation home? This beautiful historic landmark is one of the most well-known homes in Salt Lake City. Our rooms are LIGHTLY themed and they each have their own private bathroom. The common areas are filled with classic antiques and we pride ourselves on the ambiance and the comfort that this home provides to our guests.

The Ellerbeck Mansion is conveniently located at the corner of 3rd Avenue and B Street, in a quiet residential neighborhood just under five blocks from the center of downtown Salt Lake City, including the convention center. Guests can walk to Historic Temple Square, the Salt Palace convention center, museums, Family History Library, downtown shopping and dining. The mansion is a short 13-minute drive from the Salt Lake International Airport and less than 30 minutes from our famous ski resorts.

We are big enough to meet your business and travel needs, yet small enough to provide you with the intimate grace of Victorian times. Breakfast is can either be taken in your room or in the large formal dining room, and we have very flexible hours for when we serve it. A continental-style breakfast comes with the price of the room, or you can chose to pay a little extra and we'll bring in a fancy breakfast made by a master chef at a restaurant down the street.

WORLD TRAVELER ROOM: A favorite among many of our guests, this is one of the larger rooms in the Mansion. It is located on the ground floor right off of the formal living room and it has its own coal-burning fireplace and its own private full bathroom in the room. The king-size sleigh-style bed has super high-quality bedding and linens and there is plenty of space for spreading out.

Guests may use the living room to relax, read, or work. Guests may also relax by the fireplace in the upstairs library or use the formal dining room. There is a large shaded back yard that guests may relax in. We have full-time innkeepers that live on premises during the week and a part-time innkeeper on the weekends that lives nearby, so we'll be there to greet you and get you settled in, provided you coordinate your check-in time with us ahead of time.

ABOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD: The Avenues District is the historic district for Salt Lake City. It's filled with all sorts of mansions and manor homes and has several eclectic restaurants and shops scattered among the homes. It's a very quiet and affluent neighborhood and it will lend itself to a perfect bed & breakfast experience for you!

Why Cami chose The Avenues

The Ellerbeck Mansion is one of the oldest homes in the state of Utah. It's been perfectly restored to it's original glory of when it was built in 1892 by Thomas & Henrietta Ellerbeck. Thomas was the original clerk to President Brigham Young and died in 1895. Henrietta was Thomas' 3rd plural wife and lived in the house until 1903, when she sold it to the Armstrong family, who eventually turned it into a Bed & Breakfast. The rich history of this home, along with its antique ambiance, make it the perfect bed and breakfast for those who are looking for a classic mansion with all of the modern amenities.

What makes this estate unique

The Ellerbeck Mansion is unique because of its location, since it's a mere 4 blocks from the center of the city. It's in the historic home district of the city, so it doesn't have an urban feeling at all, yet it's so close to everything in the city.

One of the most unique features of the Ellerbeck Mansion is the carriage house out back. It can host small and large events in it, including weddings, corporate retreats, company training retreats, etc. The VRBO listing page for that events center is www.vrbo.com/825400.

Lovely 10-day stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our room, the Christmas Room, is larger then our bedroom at home. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. I would have appreciated prepared breakfast in the dining room, as is the style in most B & B's I've stayed at. Continental breakfast is fine, I just prefer the service when I stay over. the house was large and the community kitchen made it possible to prepare small meals for ourselves. Street parking, with no extra cost was a welcome feature, as hotels are $12 to $15 a night for the convention Center...

Our host, Daniel, was a lovely person - I would have liked to talk to him and all the guests for longer periods. Next year year, we plan on renting an entire home for the Young Living Convention, so our team can stay in one place. What fun that will be!

warning: if you're a walker, you'll enjoy the steep hill lined with beautiful old homes, from City Center to the house, about a mile away. If not, there are buses and sweet bicycle-drawn carts that will get you up half-way the hill. We drove, so it was easy to find parking for $3 - $10 a day near our Convention site.
