Beautiful property and house

  • 5 of 5

We rented the house from December 27 to January 3. I fell in love with El Valle. The house was amazing and within walking distance from the open air market and restaurants. Although we ventured out we enjoyed our days at the house. Big and airy house, much bigger than the pictures depicted. The weather was perfect. We slept with the windows open, no need for AC. We swung on the back patio hammocks and just listened to the crickets and the brook. We didn't see any mosquitos. There was a breeze that keep it nice and cool but not cold. The property manager (Ophelia) and grounds keeper (Jose) were great. I would highly recommend this property.

Great house in El Valle!

  • 5 of 5

This is a great house, with plenty of room for 2 or 3 couples. Ofelia, the property manager, was very professional and attentive. The kitchen is well-equipped and there are great hammocks and lots of places to hang out on the patio and in the gorgeous yard. There is a washer and dryer, and everything is very well-appointed. Criticisms: On our first night, when we went to bed in the upstairs master bedroom, we realized that there was an extremely bright spotlight-style light pointing from the neighbor's yard directly into our window. There was no window covering of any kind on the window, so we slept very poorly that night, as the light was shining directly in our faces. We mentioned it to Ofelia the next day, and she was able to get the neighbor to turn off the light. We were very impressed with how responsive she was! But it would have been nice if this hadn't been an issue in the first place. I would suggest heavy curtains or blinds on the window, just in case the neighbor turns the light on again. Our only other issue was that between Jose (the gardener) and the 2 dogs which live on the property, it was hard to find a quiet, peaceful moment in the yard. Jose was working all day, constantly raking or hammering or doing something noisy in the yard, and the two dogs often barked at nothing for a good part of the afternoon, making it difficult to take a siesta in the hammock. One other thing that we weren't quite aware of: you are required to bring the two large lab/retriever-type dogs inside the house every night. We love dogs, but these dogs (although very sweet) are pretty mangy and dirty, and we didn't really want them in the living room and kitchen with us. We felt like this was a lot to ask of people who are on vacation. If you're not a dog person, know that these dogs are very much a presence in the house. If you love having dogs around, this is the place for you! Overall our stay was great, and we highly recommend the house, as long as guests are aware of the above caveats.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your five star review. We are happy that you enjoyed the beautiful house and garden. El Valle is a truly unique place located in an inactive volcanic crater Our neighbors have recently installed a security spot light on their property. We have asked them to redirect the direction of the light so that it does not shine towards the house and we are pleased that our property manager responded promptly to your request. Many guests and their children have really enjoyed the children freindly Labradors on the property. However, our gardener can easily put the dogs in the casita at night to sleep if you do not want them in the house. Our gardener always washes them before the guests come and they are regularly groomed and well looked after. Look forward to seeing you again. Warm regards

Outstanding Quality

  • 5 of 5

Space, style and helpful staff. We hesitated to book this house for 2 people as it is designed and priced for larger parties: very glad we did. The large grounds bounded by a river are tended by a full time gardener. The terraces and balconies make the most of the views- though one is aware of other nearby houses. Unusual to have such a large beautiful garden, with so much to see and enjoy, within walking distance of town. The local agent is charming, helpful and speaks good English. We were unlucky with the weather. Continuous rain turned the lane leading into town from a pleasant stroll into a quagmire. We ploughed through or got taxis. Despite weather we saw many attractive birds including toucan and tanagers. Binoculars in house for use of guests.

One suggestion. The enormous tv screen was of limited use as very few channels were available. We are not TV addicts but a dvd player or some English channels would have been useful on wet dark evenings. The wifi works well.

I am glad you enjoyed the home and gardens. I am happy my property manager was such a big help to you. So sorry you got a bad stretch of weather. We have added more English channels to the cable package. Hope your back again soon warm regards

Amazing place in the middle of Mother Nature

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing and special place with a large and gorgeous yard. We rent from Mary for 5 days. Mary have 2 beautiful Golden Retriever who are the most wonderful dogs. We traveled with 2 kids of 7 years old and they had a blast. The property is very clean and save, and the kids enjoy playing outside with the dogs practically the whole day. You really get what you see on the website. The house is spacious and have all the needed amenities (in good working order) and more. The care taker Ofelia and gardener José were the best. They are always ready to help and provide extra information if needed. The owner Mary is very prompt in replaying to her emails and also do offer a lot of very useful information. There are plenty of information in the house about all activities you can do in and around "el Valle". We love the horseback riding, Canopy zip lining at El Choro Macho and the zoo. At the zoo make sure you go with a guide, that way you will see a lot more. We hid a bunch of restaurants but the 2 best ones were Restaurante Zapote and Restorante Doña Nella. We do recommend this property, especially to those who really want to slow down their pace and enjoy the beauty of Mother Nature. I will go back, but this time for a minimum of 7 days. Thank you Mary, Ofelia and José.

All That Was Promised And More

  • 5 of 5

Oh my, where to start? This house is a fantastic place to relax. There were three couples in our group and each had separate bedrooms and their own private bath. The kitchen facilities were perfect. The yard and grounds amazing. We're birdwatchers and very much enjoyed the gardens surrounding the house where we saw toucans, oropendola, motmots, a caracara and many species of songbirds. A small stream runs through the grounds and here we saw many birds come to drink. Mary's two dogs Leo and Brownie were here and we felt this was an extra special treat to have our own pets.

Mary had left us plenty of information about things to do and special places to visit while in the area. We always felt very safe here and also had the feeling that this was our dream house.

As for suggestions, we needed a little more info on how to use the cloths dryer (found out it needed to have bottled gas connected) and the washer could also use a slightly longer hose. We also think a few more bird feeders would be nice. At another house we saw them feeding fruit in a basket mounted on a pole and it really drew a large crowd of interesting birds. Hummingbird feeder was not attracting anything so we think it probably needed fresh food.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the wonderful review and suggestions. We are thrilled that you saw so many birds on the property and that you enjoyed this special place so much. The washing facilities are a bit tricky but the manual indicates that Jose the gardener will show you how to use it. Thanks for the suggestion of the fruit pole and more feeders which we can easily implement. Look forward to seeing you again.

Wonderful, perfect, awesome!

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed at this property for a week. It has been with out a doubt one of the best stays and pretty sure is one of the most beautiful houses at El Valle. The house is warm, with 3 bedrooms/bathrooms and many great outdoor areas with great views that made our stay very enjoyable both for adults enjoying a nice wine or coffee as well as for the kids whom had plenty of space to run and play in the nature and even in a small river.

Also they have great service both from their administrator whom made herself always available with a smile and solution to any question or problem as well as the maintainance person.

I would recommend this house 1000000 times!!! Actually I want to move there for life!
