1 bedroom apartment in the middle of the historic Redlands

Halfway between Miami and the Florida Keys, 20 minutes from the racetrack, this quiet private apartment sits behind the main house on a fenced acre located in the historical Anderson's Corner Redlands. Just 15 minutes from the Fl TNPX, we are situated close to local tourist historical attractions but away from city life. Lush and tropical, it's a true escape to the country. Plenty of parking for any vehicle, the 600 SF apartment is a comfortable fit for 2 people. Arrangements can be made for up to 5 with the pull out sleeper sofa in the living room and a provided folding bed. There's a separate bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and all housewares to make this your home away from home while you explore Miami, the Everglades & the Florida Keys or even the local Redlands attractions. We leave plenty of goodies for your arrival so you can snack & have coffee & breakfast before hitting the grocery store in the morning. Appliances include full size refrigerator, microwave, washer, dryer, coffee maker, blender, toaster oven, hair dryer. The bathroom has a full tub and shower as well. There is wireless internet access and a 52" flat screen TV, complete with Netflicks and full network channel access. Outdoors is inviting with table and chairs set up for your shaded visiting pleasure. The sunset view is unparalleled and the neighborhood is wonderful to walk around in with many groves, nurseries, and variety of animals. If you wish, we have 2 bicycles with helmets you can borrow to cruise around the area. We also have available beach chairs, umbrellas, and towels you might need. True quiet country living, but only 10 minutes from the nearest grocery store, our house is across the yard from yours, so we are available for any needs, questions, advice, or just visiting if you wish.

About Helen Alspaugh

Larry & I are both native Miamians who have drifted southwards. This area is more like the place we grew up. We have a grown daughter (24) who lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, whom we love to visit. We are a couple of avid adventures who love traveling and seeing new lands. We've been all around the world but of course, there's no place like home!

Why Helen Alspaugh chose Miami-Dade County

We feel like we live in Paradise, especially when the rest of the country is shivering. There is an acre of land beside ours with palm trees in the view, so sunsets are amazing. We love to sit in the yard watching the show in the sky in the evenings. Sometimes our neighborhood peacock joins us. With enough yard for our 2 little dogs to run in and enough trees for shading, we love the wide open feel of the south facing houses. Most of the trees were planted by us after moving in. Hurricane Andrew destroyed all the trees on this peaceful acre. Slowly but surely, it has turned into the garden atmosphere we envisioned when moving to the property. Our street is quiet and safe, away from the main traffic flow. This was a big change from the city life and traffic we were used to. But it's a great change!

This rental is exactly as pictured. It was VERY clean and comfortable. The owners were friendly and helpful (even providing bagels and fruit for the first morning), while giving us plenty of privacy. The location was perfect for our visits to The Everglades.

Little Gem in Hiding

My husband and I rented Larry and Helens guest house. It was comfortable, clean and safe. It's a lilt outside of the towns business so it's very quiet and the night sky is beautiful.

Larry and Helen were very welcoming and hospitable. There was a bottle of wine and food for our first breakfast when we arrived. I world highly recommend thier place and we'd definitely stay with them in the future. The Redlands are beautiful.

Very well-kept, clean, well-furnished, secure 1-bedroom in excellent location. Many extras.

We selected this property because of the location - close to several wildlife photography areas, like Everglades National Park, Shark Valley, the Tamiami Trail, the Northern Keys, the Miami Zoo, etc.

We recommend this property because of how welcome we felt staying here. It is in a quiet neighborhood, with a combination-controlled gate. The property is very comfortable, with a very well-furnished, though small, kitchen. There are many extras, including toiletries in the bathroom, and pantry supplies in the kitchen (and refrigerator). Very good bottled water is supplied. Both hosts were very attentive in pointing out the many features of the little house, including the washer and dryer and beach toys in the garage. A complete Welcome and Guide book is on the dining table. The Wifi is excellent, and the TV includes Roku (w/Netflix), and about 30 channels from an outdoor antenna.

We enjoyed staying here. We will be back.

Attractive space close to Everglades and Fairchild Gardens

We felt very welcomed by Helen and Larry, the owners, who had provided some breakfast foods, snacks, and fruit, as well as other condiments, etc. that we could use. A large yard and a very nice dog provided great play space and companionship for our granddaughter. Realistically the space was a bit small for our family of five (four adults and one child) but we made due since most of our time was away visiting the Everglades, the upper Keys, and other attractive places in the area. It was a quiet place to view the sunsets from lawn chairs, which had been placed outside. The place comes with everything you need. The owners provide filtered drinking water for renters to consume. Everything was very clean and neat. Having a washer and dryer readily available to us was very helpful for our nearly week-long stay. We would certainly stay there again (very comfortable for two and can accommodate up to five with a pull-out couch and rollaway bed). We would recommend the property to others.

A nice place out of the mainstream

I give this property a 5 star rating based on the truth in advertising, how it met our needs, and the cordiality of the hosts. Our time away coincided with spring break and our destination was South Florida. Many hotels charge what I thought were excessive fees over and above their advertised rate. As much as I love college students I did not want to spend time in Fort Lauderdale during spring break. Even though the hosts require a service fee for cleaning and a small insurance policy I felt the price/value was still better than many average hotels back in the city . We were just two. You could fit four. Children would be fine if they like to play outside. The property is located in an agricultural/residential district (about an hour away from FLL) that is very quiet and only about 15 minutes from the highway. This was our first time using VRBO and we found the hosts very accommodating but not intrusive. Larry and Helen greeted us the first evening and provided us with great ideas about places to visit and eat. As stated in their summary there was a nice bottle of wine waiting as well as plenty of coffee and breakfast bagels for our stay. We spent one day in the Everglades, drove down to Long Key park on another. Locally we visited Fruit and Spice Park and Robert is Here (try the key lime honey). There is some potential for agro-tourism to grow here. We ate at Black Point Grill and listened to a band while watching the sunset. We loaded up on Cuban food at Cassavana's and Pollo Tropicale. A number of Publix supermarkets are a short drive away. On the way back to FLL for an afternoon flight we stopped at Zoo Miami. I found FLL confusing on the return and could not find an easy way to gas up the rental car. Since I filled up before we left, the charge by EZ Rental was minimal. Don't sweat it. So...we were very busy over 4 days and did not spend a lot of time at the house but it was clean, relaxing, and comes with a dog....Baxter - an awesome tail wagging personality.
