About Owner/ Property Manager

Matt & Sara Richardson

Owner/ Property Manager purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Owner/ Property Manager chose Olalla

This peaceful colonial estate and carriage house on 10 acres takes you back in time to the east coast of the 1800s where equestrian-style estates are more common and remain the standard of architecture and traditional luxury.

We also have two gorgeous horses (Paints) named Bo & Bella to make the view and the experience complete.

What makes this cottage unique

This property is on a gated, quiet, secure, and beautiful estate in the Olalla countryside where the nights allow you to see the stars more clearly and your surrounded by nature.

We provided cleaning services and personal services as requested or needed.

Kinda a weird place. The rental is super close to the main house. There are no screens on the windows but no a/c so bugs would fly in. The apartment was nice and mostly clean, there was some dust. Because the apartment is above the garage if they are their kids come home late, the noise would wake us up. The dogs they have also bark at night and their kennels are right next to the garage! We Stacey with our children and the discription said children are welcome but one night the owner Matt knocked on our door and wanted to talk about the "rules" saying that he usually doesn't allow kids and that they shouldn't ever be outside unsupervised and if my mother in law (who is in her 50's) who was with us was watching them they'd have to stay inside because she probably couldn't keep up with them. Overall the house worked for what we needed it for but was kind of a weird place and I felt uncomfortable staying there

Not for Everyone

  • 2 of 5

We rented the carriage house for 2 months while we were transitioning through a move from Maryland to Washington State. When we arrived we were very surprised to find that the garage sits much closer to the main house than we expected. If you are looking for privacy during your getaway, this may not be the right spot.

We were greeted by our host Matt, who gave us an overview of his property (a busy place with lots of kids, dogs, and other assorted animals). When we entered the apartment we were immediately disappointed with the cleanliness. The sofa was covered with spots, the bedding was soiled (spots all over the comforter, and even blood stains on the pillow), and worst of all, there was significant mold growing in the tub/shower and on the bathroom curtains as well. The kitchen was grimy, with food splatters on the walls and the cook top covered in burned on food. The washer smelled so badly of mold/mildew that we did not use it during our stay.

On the second night of our stay the owner ran his well dry watering his yard. He did not address it with us until my husband sent him a text. We had no drinking water or the ability to shower.

Beware of the pictures showing 3 TV's on the website, only one is connected to cable. The 2 in the bedrooms are useless.

The owner has 2 very friendly dogs who often greeted us by jumping up and getting our clothes dirty. My husband loves dogs, but didn't like this. The dogs are also kenneled right below the bedroom window. There were several nights when they barked most of the night on and off. This continued even after we asked the owner not to kennel them near our window.

There are no screens on the windows of the apartment, which is surrounded by a horse pasture. We dealt with a large quantity of flies inside each day, which wasn't pleasant, especially at meal times. The pastures are very small and are pretty much full of manure so you can imagine why there might be a fly issue. On hot days with the windows open (a requirement due to lack of A/C) we really did feel like we were living in a barn....smelly and full of flies.

Overall, our stay was not what we expected, nor could I recommend this property. We tried to find alternative housing but there was nothing available that fit our needs. We stayed as long as we did only because we literally had nowhere else to go. Luckily, we bought a house and were able to leave 10 days early. We did not request a refund even though we felt our concerns warranted one.

Great getaway from the city!

The carriage house was a perfect home base for our little family for 10 days. All the amenities are perfect and the beds comfy! We loved exploring Gig Harbor, such a cute town. We will definitely be back. Thanks Matt!

Still Waiting For Refund

  • 2 of 5

We stayed at the carriage house last summer. We made last minute reservation (less than 14 days) and then had to change to another night. We were charged the full amount for both nights. We were promised a refund but never received it.

Lovely 2 bedroom on expansive landscape

  • 5 of 5

My 8 month old pup and I met my daughter here and all 3 of us visited my 98 year old mom. Lovely location, Max, my pup was in dog heaven running with the 2 dogs who live there every free minute. The space works really well for anyone choosing a home environment when they travel.
