|Minimum Stay||2 - 3 nights|
Jamaica unplugged! The owner, reggae musician Jamaica Papa Curvin, has lived in Germany for 40 years and just recently discovered his favourite property on the island. Now he lives in Jamaica and is looking forward to hosting guests with a genuine interest in his home country.
The newly build cottage in the traditional Jamaican style is located on a vast property with stunning sea views and tropical garden, just above a rocky cliff.
From your front porch or laying in the hammock you will enjoy the beautiful view of the sea, or discover exotic birds and butterflies in the lush vegetation. In the evenings you can watch the light of fireflies.
If you want to, you can fish directly on the property or get refreshed by jumping from the cliffs into the sea, if the conditions allow.
The new patio deck is giving you a panoramic view of the ocean. During the day it´s a wonderful place to relax, to bathe in the sun, read a book, meditate, do your exercise, yoga ect. During the summer months you can enjoy stunning sun rises and sunsets from the here.
James Bond Beach - unser Traumstrand!: A short walk will take you to the famous yet hardly frequented James Bond Beach – a divine Caribbean beach with sun loungers and changing rooms free of charge as well as restaurant where you should definitely try jerk food. Thanks to an offshore reef the sea is very tranquil here, ideal for swimming and snorkelling. Since there is a small fee to access the beach you will often be able to enjoy this beautiful spot all by yourself.
Vacation far away from the crowds!: How about a trip to a beautiful waterfall not far from the property – without bus loads of tourists? Enjoy the beautiful location to swim or jump from the cliffs right into the water. During the week you will hardly meet anybody here, but on the weekends this is a popular hang-out place where local youths like to gather. As a whitey you will find it very easy to get into conversations with them.
Or you can let Rasta Selassie take you to his hidden farm in the mountains - on site, we can organize individual Real Jamaica tours that will lead you to the unknown treasures of the island.
This location offers you everything for a perfect vacation far away from tourist crowds. Here you will get in touch with the locals and discover the real Jamaica!
We stayed at Real Jamaica during off season and to our surprise we were the only guests on the property! Real Jamaica is the real deal! it's a quiet homey property with wonderful cabins in the woods and at the end of the property is a wonderful deck sitting on the cliffs over looking the great Caribbean sea . We were able to enjoy the deck to ourselves with morning meditation and my partner playing his guitar while having coffee and eating the delicious breakfast which was prepared for us by our lovely host Grace!
The location is extremely convenient as it's on the main road. We were able to explore the surrounding areas such as Fire Fly, Ochos Rios (Ochie) Dunn's River Fall, rafting on White River, James Bond Beach, and we also found the most amazing Italian Jamaican Restaurant at The Harmony Hall Great House called Toscanini. I cannot say enough If you are looking to experience the "real Jamaica" I recommend the only place to stay is At The Real Jamaica! One Love!
Papa Curvin and Joanna are the best hosts! Great little cottage - very secluded. Miss Annie across the street will take care of your Red Stripe and take out needs. Dor's Fish Pot, just up the street is a must. We got to go on an excursion with Papa Curvin to the Blue Hole and Sugar Pot Beach - both were amazing! Dor's Fish Pot, just down the road is a must (ask for the conch salad!). The night before we left, Papa Curvin and Joanna came and just hung out on our deck with us for a couple hours. They are so down to earth and REAL. If we ever get back to Jamaica, we will definitely stay at Real Jamaica!
My only lament is that I needed 2 more weeks there.
Everyone was wonderful to us- Papa Curvin, Grace, Johanna, Kurrency, and Cornelia, who emailed with me in the weeks leading up to our trip to help me with all of the logistics.
Beautiful people-- hospitable, warm, helpful, easy to talk to, extremely accommodating. We loved the property and it was the absolute perfect spot for us to stay- a good distance from the built up resorts and tourist developments of the island. We were free to do our own thing, had privacy, but the comfort of knowing the staff were just a few steps away and always there to answer any questions we had. We were utterly content with the simplicity of walking to town or the small provisions shops to pick up anything we needed, eating & drinking at roadside spots nearby, swimming at the nearby James Bond beach, sunbathing on the rocks by the cabin, lounging in hammocks, drinking lots of rum on the porch, and chatting up the Real Jamaica staff.
Hoping I'll be back in the not too distant future.
My boyfriend and I decided very last-minute to come out to Jamaica for our spring break. We're both college students, but we decided that we'd rather spend time with actual Jamaicans instead of staying in the super touristy resort havens. We could not have been more pleased with how quickly they responded to our hasty request for housing and the hospitality they showed us when we arrived. Curvin and Zyon went out of their way to make us feel at home and to ensure that we had the best time possible in their town.
Staying in the area was extremely affordable and offered many opportunities to visit areas without any other tourists. The photos on this page don't do justice to the beautiful tree-filled lot that the two cottages reside on. It's wonderful to walk around the naturally canopied pathways or to read in the hammock with spectacular cliffside views of the ocean thirty feet away. The exquisitely maintained cottages themselves are also perfectly equipped for a week away. Each features a kitchenette stocked with all the basic essentials for cooking and feeding yourselves. Each day, we'd walk or take the local bus (there's only one road, so it's hard to get lost) down to the market for food to cook up. As most of the area restaurants stop serving food past sundown, our late-night schedules didn't adjust for us to eat out much for dinner, but we did have one or two delicious lunches.
I would highly recommend stopping at the road side bars and "jellie" stands (selling refrigerated coconuts). Although I couldn't understand the thicker accents, it was really nice to stop, talk to people and also thoroughly enjoy the snack/drink we'd just picked up. Again, as the village doesn't get many tourists, people were amused by our stupid questions about food/directions and were happy to chat.
Although we did make it out to Negril for our final day (and the water temperature was to die for), you're cheating yourselves of a fuller Jamaican experience if you spend all of your trip in the (much more expensive) resort areas. Also, if security is your concern, besides one easily avoidable run-in with a lowlife in an Ochos Rios market, our trip passed without any sort of safety or theft related incidents!
When we went, Clive's Transport Services were the cheapest and best reviewed budget option for getting out to Oracabessa/Ochos Rios. Our trips were seamless, so if new reviews still say great things, they're a good choice.
Come to Real Jamaica - it's amazing!
Our stay at "the real Jamaica" cottage in Oracabessa was AMAZING!! We were so comfortable and relaxed and felt at home there. Zyon was a great hostess and provided us with good advice and information when we requested it. I can't wait to get back there and see her friendly face.......(and her adorable kitties too!)
We saw and experienced everything in Jamaica we wanted to see plus more and still stayed under budget. Definately cheaper then staying at a resort.
I would advise anybody to stay at these cottages, especially if they want a REAL Jamaica experience! So quiet and peaceful, no hustle and bustle. Pure relaxation!!
We had a wonderful time, thank you to the "real Jamaica" team for our experience and our life-long, cherished memories. We know where we'll be taking our next holidays, it's just not soon enough!!
