Casa Eloise is a long, narrow apartment on the ground floor, close to the north side of old San Juan. The fort of San Cristobal is just a few minutes walk away. The neighborhood is mostly residential, but there are several restaurants around the corner - more on this later.
We enjoyed staying at the Casa and found it comfortable and well-furnished. The most unusual feature of the apartment is the outdoor shower at the back. The shower is directly adjacent to the bedroom. Although open to the air from above, the shower is still surrounded on three sides by the walls of the neighboring buildings. We liked using it, but it does require some agility to get in and out since there is a low wall to step over. There's another shower (much smaller) inside the apartment.
It's important to be aware that there is no solid wall between the bedroom and the shower, which means that the bedroom itself is also open to the outside. You will hear noise from the neighbors - sometimes voices, sometimes TV. The neighbors usually quiet down by about 11pm, but if you go to bed earlier, you should bring earplugs. There is also a fair amount of mechanical white noise in the bedroom, probably from someone else's AC unit.
On Saturday night during our stay, the restaurants around the corner were playing music quite loudly until about 10:30pm, and that was also very audible in the bedroom. Fortunately, there is another room towards the middle of the apartment with a futon couch that can be folded out into a bed. We used this for two nights and it was much quieter than the bedroom.
Old San Juan is an historic distract and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Richly steeped in history, art and music. It is the oldest city which is part of the U.S. The city is over 500 years old. Stunningly beautiful both the natural world and in its Spanish Colonial Architecture
People live here. There are grocery stores, drug stores, US Post Office, museums, art & music. You can get everything one would need and it's within walking distance.
