Surrounded by Michaux State Forrest with miles of trails to explore. Close to Gettysburg, Appalachian Trail, Ski Liberty Resort, National Fire Academy. Mountain View and Carroll Valley Golf Courses.
Lou and Sandee Gusoff of Brighton, Michigan, purchased this property as a summer home. Lou grew up in the Gettysburg area and moved to Mi. as a young adult.
After 39 years on the Detroit Fire Dept. Lou retired and thought about moving back to this house, but having eight grandchildren changed our plan. We had many great summers here with our three sons and continue to visit when possible. We decided to open our home so others could enjoy Gettysburg and the mountain area.
Louis and Sandra Gusoff purchased this lodge in 1977
We chose this property because we like the mountain views and being completely surrounded by forest and streams. It is also minutes away from the Battle of Monterey Pass, the confederate retreat from Gettysburg, the Appalachian Trail and the Mason Dixon Line. We enjoyed day trips to Washington D.C., Baltimore, Md. and Harpers Ferry.
My husband and I had wanted to see Gettysburg National Park for several years and finally decided to spend a week there in October. We have had very good experiences with staying in VRBOs and this house was no exception. The house is located about 8 miles west of the town of Gettysburg and on the way to Fairfield. It is beautiful country and a nice paved road. We arrived into town from Philadelphia after dark and had some difficulty finding the house. I called the owner Lou, who provided me with directions and also hooked me up with a friend of his that was a local resident. She stayed on the phone with me as I found my way to the house in the dark! Thank you Christina!
The house is set back from the road (which is not very busy). It is in a residential location with a few houses around it at a distance. The house was very nicely furnished, especially for a family. Although it was just my husband and myself, it did not seem like it was too big. The upstairs has two bedrooms and a bathroom as well as a kitchen/dining room and living room. All quite spacious. The kitchen was very well equipped and although we did not use it, there is a great deck out back with a grill and view.
Great tv, wifi and some local maps/tourist information. The bathroom was very clean, water hot and the our bed very comfortable. There is a very nice grocery store on the way out of town called Kennys that we stopped by to restock, it was very handy.
Very nice place with great help from the owner. I would highly recommend it.
We had an excellent trip staying in the house. We loved its secluded location, driving through the forest. It worked perfectly for our family of 6. If we make it back to the area again, we would love to stay in this house again. Thanks for renting your house to us for a week.
HAD A GREAT WEEK IN THE MOUNTAINS DURING EASTER WEEK VISITED , GETTYSBURG, HARPERS FERRY, MOUNT VERNON, ANTIETAM BATTLEFIELD, DC, & BATIMORE. EVERY THING IS SO CLOSE.. TRY TO MAKE THE GETTYSBURG GHOST TOURS IN THE SQUARE, THE SHRINE OF ST. ELIZABETH ANN SETON IN EMITTSBURG, MD.AND CRABS AT DAVE & JANES CRAB SHACK.
We made the trip to visit the historical sites nearby. We were looking for something more friendly than a hotel, and this property is just the place. It easily accommodated six people, was quite warm in spite of the unpleasant weather, and is near the battlefield. The hosts also give plenty of recommendations for other attractions nearby.
It's a short trip from Hershey and Harrisburg if you're interested in hiking, paragliding, or kayaking (or chocolate).
Pen-Mar Park, High Rock, Gettysburg National Park, Antietam Battlefield, Harpers Ferry, Baltimore, Washington D.C. 90 minutes away.
