While there up a delicious barbecue dinner on our gas grill outside on large deck with comfortable seating that overlooks the valley.

This TreeHouse is recommended lovers Nature lovers, people who seek time away from technology.

Please take note*** If you love Wildlife and do not mind critters. The tree house is in the middle of the woods you may encounter mice, wasp, bees, ticks, deer, turkey, flies, ants, water bugs, hear coyotes, and owls especially out on the trails. THIS IS THEIR HOME! We ask that you be a person that respects wildlife. If interaction with bugs, insects, animals and nature is disheartening to you we do not recommend this tree house experience for you. Please do not book this tree house and then call us when you see a wasp, bee, find a tick or other things you find in nature. We have used natural deterrents that really work to keep critters out of the tree house. Since part of the adventure are the famous barn doors that open to the outside occasionally one may sneak in. We recommend not leaving the barn doors open when you leave the tree house for a hike or overnight since flying insects love the tree house.

**A favorite of guests is visiting the Historical town of Augusta Ky. Childhood home to George Clooney. The Irish Pub is a great place to eat (call ahead for open hours) and have a ice cream after at the general store across the street. Visit the small red train with historical info and take a stroll along the beautiful Ohio River just two blocks to the left of the pub. Augusta is also home to underground railroad.

Take a magical ferry ride across river and visit small town of Ripley. Find a place to eat along the river. You can take bridge back to Maysville and visit their historical downtown. Eat at Parc Cafe-A Italian cafe replica.

For quick bite to eat order a Pizza from the Germantown 1st stop Gas station 4 miles and pick it up. Phone number is in the treehouse.

The Tree house is our dream come true. I wanted a treehouse since I was 10 years old. I believed it would bring me peace. I would play in the woods with my siblings imagining this treehouse it with small branches, using rocks as our furniture and moss as our carpet. I never let go of having this space and thought about it often.

When Bill and I started our dream company EarthJOY Tree adventures in 2007. Whereas we take clients to the top of trees on ropes. As part of this venture we wanted to give them another experience. Why not be able to stay in a treehouse too??

We set off to take Pete Nelsons LEARN HOW TO BUILD A TREEHOUSE in 2009 workshop.

After the workshop we looked high and low for the perfect property to have this dream come true. We ran into many obstacles one being not able to afford it or not the right trees.

When we saw Pete on Animal planet I thought I would just apply for the fun of it. We didn't even have a place. When they called and accepted our application I called Dad. I asked him if we could build a treehouse on his 200 acre farm. He laughed and then said YES! He said he was tired of running two farms and his dream of having a huge cattle farm would just have to be turned into building a few treehouses.

Animal Planet wanted to share this story and hence our episode is famous and called "THE KENTUCKY CLIMBERS COTTAGE" After two years they still air it on Treehouse Masters/AP.

December of 2014 marks the year my childhood dream finally came true. Not only do I mark off time to enjoy my treehouse myself.. I also set aside time for my Womens workshops and our treeclimbing clients. They not only have an incredible experience via a guided tree climb they also get the full immersion of being held by 10 trees in a TREEHOUSE!

Over and over again we heard how the magic of the treehouse totally rejuvenated stressed souls so last year we decided to open it up to others and put it on air b&b

The adventure begins on the journey to the treehouse. As you wind your way through the beautiful back roads you can stop over at Augusta for a romantic dinner and a walk along the Ohio River.

The treehouse is secluded and tucked in the woods so you feel like you are off the grid. It has a propane grill inside for simple meals and a gas grill outside for more elaborate meals.

Peaceful lounging is created inside either on modular couch or seated hammock.

Be sure to watch the story behind the treehouse on Animal Planet -The Kentucky Climbers Cottage

About Shelly Byrne

I dreamed of a treehouse since I was 10 years old. I had spent that summer in the woods with my siblings pretending we had treehouses. We made the moss carpet and big rocks our furniture.

Shelly Byrne purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Shelly Byrne chose Stonewall

When we started our dream company in 2007 (EarthJOY Tree Adventures) We knew we wanted to offer our tree climbers out of town an entire experience.

We took Pete Nelson's treehouse worskhop in 2009. Yet never could find the piece of property or it was always out of our reach financially. When we saw him on Animal Planet we knew it was time. We sent in an application and when we were chosen I called Dad to ask if we could build it on the farm. He said YES

Unique retreat in the trees

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful treehouse in Kentucky. Awake to hear the birds singing and lounge in the hammock or cook breakfast on the grill. Return to nature in style on the 200 acre property. Take a hike to a large three person hammock or throw rocks in the stream while cows graze nearby. This is secluded, but that's why your here right? You can also drive into nearby Augusta and walk along the Ohio River.

Owner's Response: David it was great to hear you loved the tree house, the hammock, and its seclusion. We especially loved how you slowed down time to observe a cow grazing as you tossed rocks in the creek bed. That is what it is about! We also want guests to know you can book a guided tree climb or visit nearby cities that are only 15 min drive if you want social interaction. Augusta is really cool in that you can browse Nina's antique shop and talk with her. (George Clooney's mom) Also a favorite is to take the Augusta Ferry across the Ohio river and take a right into Ripley and eat on the river at the Boat Tavern. Afterwards you can circle into a bridge that crosses back into Maysville. Either take a zipline tour in Maysville, visit dowtown pub or head back to the tree house. There is also horse back riding at Wildfire Equestrian 4 miles from tree house. You will need to call ahead.

Great Escape to Mother Nature!

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful escape from the daily grind. Breathing in the fresh air and enjoying nature up close was truly refreshing and invigorating. We especially enjoyed building a fire in the wood stove and playing cards and board games. It rained all night so was the best nights' sleep I've had in ages.
