About Kyle Quintia

Josh and Jill are both originally from Columbia Falls, Montana, and currently live in Seattle with their 3 children. Josh is an architect at a high-end residential & commercial architecture firm, and was able to use his experience as a both a builder and designer to make this home into something that fit both the couple's esthetic and creature comforts while on a budget. To make their vacation home in Montana a reality, they remodeled an existing home on the property and worked sporadically over the course of 2 years on it, traveling back and forth from Seattle during vacations to bring materials, fixtures, furniture and custom built-ins that were made in Seattle by Josh. An interesting feature is the dining booth table and seats that were handmade from salvaged wood from the original home's wood siding!

Jill owns a kid's outdoor accessories company called FORT, and enjoys snowboarding and skiing with her family in the winter, hiking in Glacier National Park and playing in Flathead Lake in the summer.

Kyle Quintia purchased this house in 2011

Why Kyle Quintia chose Glacier Park

The name of this property is "Base Camp" because family and friends have enjoyed this location for its access to all the outdoor experiences in this area. Now, its available for others to use as their "Base Camp" as they embark on fishing trips, hiking adventures, skiing, rafting, and enjoying the abundance of amazing restaurants in such a small area.

Blast off from base camp.

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic home. This place is actually their second home so you can tell there is serious pride in ownership and it is very well stocked. There was an incident with the oven. I emailed them and they promptly addressed the situation. They had a catastrophe with some muffins last time they visited and simply forgot to clean the mess after the oven cooled off. They offered to have it cleaned promptly. We decided we could live without the oven. It was relieving that the oven was not simply filthy but mere oversight we have all done. For the record: their smoke alarms work extremely well. This house was so comfortable I would even recommend it as a getaway for a couple even though it has three bedrooms. The bedding was luscious.

Pleasant house in Columbia Falls

  • 3 of 5

We stayed in this house in Columbia Falls for a week in July. The house is an extensively remodeled older house and we had a pleasant stay. Kyle the agent for the property was good to deal with and very helpful. I equate 3 stars with an average property. If the owners had changed a few things I would have given the property 4 stars (above average). While we were staying on the property it was quite warm in Columbia Falls. The bedroom windows had screens on them allowing them to be opened at night to allow the place to cool down however there were no screens on the kitchen and dining room windows and therefore they couldn't be opened as we did not wish to allow mosquitoes into the house. Had we been able to open these windows the house would have cooled off faster. The kitchen eating area also smelled somewhat of fish as I think the previous occupants must have been frying fish. This smell would have dissipated faster had we been able to open up the kitchen and dining room windows. Some but not all of the bedroom windows had blinds on them so it was very bright in the bedrooms in the mornings. It would have been nice to have had blinds on all of the bedroom windows. There was a nice deck at the back of the house however there were only two patio chairs available to sit on the deck. We were a group of five so three additional chairs would have been appreciated. All of these issues could be easily solved by the owner. Finally the one quirky thing about this house was that the countertops in the kitchen are made of wood and one had to be very careful during the stay to not cut on the counter tops, get any water on the counter tops or to stain the counter tops. The agent for the property warned me about these counter tops before I rented the property however I still found it a little stressful making sure the counter tops were not damaged. It reminded me of the amusing fictional book "The Care of Wooden Floors" by Will Wiles. This is a book about a protagonist who goes to apartment sit a friend's house. The friend has recently installed hardwood floors into the house and the protagonist spends his entire stay trying not to damage the floors.

Great location… Nice home!

  • 5 of 5

We liked the location as it was central to several different directions we plan to go over the next week as we visited various parts of Glacier national Park. Recommend!

Beautiful home - a little nervous to use it!

  • 4 of 5

This was a lovely home - thoughtful details of craftsmanship and modernity throughout. However, the owner or manager seemed to be particularly nervous about having guests using the house, which as a conscientious person, made ME very nervous about staying there and possibly messing something up. There's an additional 12 page lease agreement that you'll have to sign before you stay there, and in addition to some phone calls, the owner or manager e-mailed me details including warning me to be careful of transporting sap from the pine trees in the yard in the house, and exactly what type of drinks (wet or hot) or food (nothing colored) could NOT sit on the butcher block kitchen countertops. Even though we all did admire the details of the home, I felt nervous staying there, particularly as I had my two children with me. I found myself goosestepping around the house and making sure everyone else did too. Perhaps the countertops and floors could have a more durable finish on them to allow for more reasonable use. Also, no curtains on the upper windows was lovely for letting light into the house, but not great for sleeping a full night around the solstice. Last item - step down from kitchen into living room is nearly invisible and almost took a few of us out, particularly my mom in her 70s, and my two young kids. I really hate to say anything negative because it was a such a beautiful house in a truly great location, but I just found it hard to relax there. Sorry :(

Beautiful home, convenient location

  • 4 of 5

Home is in a convenient location for accessing the national park. It's beautifully decorated, spacious, and can easily accommodate as many as 5-6 people, or more if you have kids. Beds and other furniture were comfortable. Kitchen is fully stocked. Bathroom has double sinks so you and your family can get ready more quickly!

There is a fantastic restaurant called Three Forks Grill that serves up quality food with a casual, fun ambiance. Whitefish is about a 20 minute drive. If you go there, try out Wasabi Sushi for quality food and Sweet Peaks for ice cream! Yum!

Fabulous spot for adventuring in Glacier

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriend and I loved our stay at Base Camp. We had lots of plans for adventuring in Glacier National Park and Whitefish over the July 4th holiday. The house was even better than we had hoped. The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking our breakfasts and dinners and packing lunches for daily hikes. The bed was super comfortable for getting a good night's sleep. And everything was so beautiful that I'd now like to redo my home bathroom with those wonderful tiles! The photos of the house do not adequately depict the beautiful decor, the thoughtful touches and the modern, minimalistic style of the place. It was such a welcome retreat to return to each night and from which to launch our adventures each day. What's more, it is JUST around the corner from the Montana Coffee Trader's, where we picked up the most magnificent iced lattes and cookies every morning. We hope to return one day with our kiddos, especially since the additional bedrooms are loaded with kids' toys and books! Kyle was incredibly responsive by e-mail, phone and text, as different situations called for, and really accommodating when we asked to check in early to drop off our perishables before heading to Glacier the first day. Thank you so much for a great stay!
