Very desirable Corner unit home on Matlacha Ave. and Second Street centrally located and only one block from downtown Matlacha where Art Galeries, Bars, Restaurant and a lovely Ice cream shop is located. Spacious one bedroom with Queen Bed cottage with a large full kitchen a breakfast nook with a window and view of an array of Coconut, palm trees and spectacular water views of fish jumping out to greet you. Large Sofa Queen bed in living room so sleeps 4 comfortable. One bathroom with separate sink and make- up room full bath room with tub. Large screened lanai with breathtaking views of the water and island vegetation. Full boat dock with own sink and fish cutting board. Enjoy kayaking with kayak usage available no extra cost at request. Forgot your fishing polls we can provide just bring your clothes and flip flops and enjoy paradise.

About Jacob Delvalle

I am a native Floridian born in Miami Beach, Florida and raise in Coral Gables. Currently live in Miami Springs, Florida with my wife and two children. My wife is also a native Floridian born in Key West, Florida and both my children where born in the same hospital I was born in Miami Beach. We are a family with now 5 generations of native Floridians and we love our State. I went to FIU and University of Miami and my wife graduated from Barry University. Why Jacob Delvalle chose Matlacha

I was introduced to Matlacha by another family member and I fell in love as soon as I arrived to her spectacular bungalow located on Matlacha Avenue. I felt so relaxed and this quaint fishing town is still not touched by the fabricated tourist areas that are surrounded in Florida. I had asked her if she hears of a property for sale but on the same side of the island that she is in which is the historic point to let me know. And two months later our Fantasy Island Dream home came in the market and is right across the street from her bungalow. What I liked the most is this is a corner unit with water views from where ever you stand on the property and is a must see.

First of all, this property is a duplex. If it is now reflected on the VBRO page as such, is sure was NOT when we booked. The larger unit that we stayed in is shabby and run down. Most of the furnishings are as well. The shower leaked the entire stay. Had to call the owner for an iron, ironing board, empty gas grill tank, rotted bike tire. The lawn guy brought a couple dirty shabby ironing boards over with a new iron. We never did get any gas for the grill or a usable tire for the bike so it was out of commission for the entire stay. The sun porch was a nice size but there were holes in the screening. The owner also had other items laying about in disarray which made it feel junky . The washer/dryer is located outside and barely has a button or knob that is still attached. Therefore, you cannot change the settings. Had to do our laundry with hot water and hot dryer. Of course, being outside it is quite dirty. Also, the area where the trash can is has a lot of old paint cans and junk. Very unsightly! There may have been somewhere to put recyclables but nothing indicating the same. The property owner supplies 2 kayaks that probably have not been cleaned or attended to since they were hung on the fence. He also claimed to have a kayak ramp. The weakest sense of the concept of a kayak ramp was provided. It was some jimmy rigged piece of nonsense!! When I told the owner that we took our lives in our hands every time we launched our kayaks, he came back with some pathetic excuse that the ramp was made for light kayaks. The kayaks that he provided were not light. They may have been a little lighter than the kayaks that we brought (pedal kayaks) but light or not was not the problem. He had some badly hand made ramp held by a weak line system hooked to the dock pole to raise and lower the ramp. There was a piece of wood that acted as a stop of some sort at the beginning of the ramp that only served to be in the way for ANY kayak and the line system going from the dock pole to the other side of the "ramp" would cut you across the neck if you did not duck your head...ridiculous!!! There is a lot of junk in the yard. We had to look at an old lawn mower and scraps of wood when outside. We even had to move bags of dirt off of one of the walkways. I would advise to avoid this rental. It is not taken care of. It is run down, dingy and shabby. There is nobody to take care of repairs or concerns during your stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review of our Mojito Cottage. Sorry to hear that everything was not up to your standards. Again, this is Matlacha and therefore we are not blessed to be housing a Hilton. As you and I have spoken on the phone when you called to report the tire on the bike and the gas grill I thought I had taken every measure to be able to satisfy your request. My maintenance person had previously checked the cottage for me but had not reported any problems at that time. Therefore I will address this with him to make sure that this type of incident would not happen again. As far as my property being dingy and shabby, it is amazing to me that all prior clients in the past two years have been more than delighted with their stay and the furnishings provided that are the ones published in my site. I am sure you looked with care and reviewed before you booked our cottage. I guess that might just be a matter of taste. As I had said prior my maintenance person always checks on the property for me between renters but he too had not reported any of the incidents that you are mentioning at this time. I do appreciate your reply on VRBO but I guess all standards were not to your liking so for that I am sincerely apologetic. Again, this is Matlacha a fisherman’s, artistic, kayak friendly island, very quirky eclectic sort of place but with good quality homes for rent and great picture friendly neighborhood. Take a look at the other reviews as well as some of the ones I have in other sights I publish and rent our cottage and the first one checked in a weeks after you checked out?? “Jacob's place in Matlacha is a real gem! His place is cozy and comfortable. We loved the spacious kitchen, huge screened porch, and the clean living room. Guests can also use the grill outside, kayaks, and fishing rods. All the amenities that you'd want. We launched our kayaks right off from the back porch and watched fish jumping every morning. We'd love to come back!” Another guest in March Days after you left. “This place was very clean and has all the convenience of being home. I visited with my sister who has health issues and needed all those conveniences of being home and this place was perfect. The place was very clean and Jacob was a great host that communicated well and pointed out everything about the home and the area and then left us to enjoy ourselves.” I have only had positive feedback and guests returning for multiple stays in the last couple of years.

Great Getaway

Comfortable, affordable and conveniently located for a Florida getaway. Our week there flew by.

It’s nice to stay away from the chrome and glitz of contemporary Florida and be in a traditional, friendly, neighborhood setting. Easy walking to all the many local restaurants and galleries in charming Matlacha, and the modern amenities and attractions are not too distant a drive. Mattress was hotel class and night times are dead quiet since the property is located well off the main road.

I love Matlacha Island and wanted to stay on the island. We found this place listed on vacation rentals it's a small place but nice we stayed for a month and enjoyed having a view of the canal. We liked that there were kayaks and bikes on the property for use also you can walk to the little town. It has lots of shops with local artists. Very cool, if your expecting the Taj Mahal it's not. That's just part of being on Matlacha it's a fishing town there is a boat ramp very close that we used almost everyday. It would have been nice if there was a TV in the bedroom I like to fall asleep to the noise, But not a huge deal.
