About the property

Beautiful Cabin on Kangaroo Lake In Door County w/Dock, 4 Bdrm, 2.5 Bath

Come enjoy our recently renovated 1,500 sq. ft. lake house on Kangaroo Lake. This home maintains its original 1940's cottage charm with the classic Door County stone fireplace, cedar walls, and wood floors. The house comfortably accommodates 8-12 guests with 4 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. The dining room has a lakeside view and seating for 12. There is plenty of space for outdoor dining, lawn games, and relaxing. *Satellite TV and WiFi provided*.

The first floor master bedroom has a queen size bed, its own private bathroom and a patio facing the lake. The upstairs has 3 bedrooms and another full bathroom. The first bedroom has 2 twin beds, the second bedroom has a full bed, and the large third bedroom which faces the lake has a queen size bed and full futon. There is also a queen size sofa bed in the living room and a half bathroom on the first floor.

Kangaroo Lake is an 1,156 acre, spring-fed lake with a maximum depth of 12 feet. Catch fish from the dock, causeway or one of the boats provided (canoe, kayak, paddle board, and fishing boat). The lake's sandy bottom is ideal for wading and playing in the water. The water temperature is nice and warm around 15 degrees warmer than Lake Michigan.

The lake house is just minutes away from a golf course, restaurants, shops, and entertainment. There is much to do in Door County, but you may be content to spend the day at the lake house, playing in the water, boating, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing, or just relaxing. At the end of the day enjoy watching the sun set over the lake or sitting by the campfire.

This place is great for families with small children as we do provide pack'n play, jumper, stroller, and high chair for your convenience.

The lake house books quickly. Contact us today to reserve your lakeside vacation.

About Ryan and Maureen Sundeen

My wife and I met at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and now reside in the Twin Cities with our three children. We enjoy traveling and exploring new places.

Ryan and Maureen Sundeen purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Ryan and Maureen Sundeen chose Door County

Our family vacationed in Door County and fell in love with the area. We were very excited to be able to purchase this beautiful property on the lake to spend time together with our family and share with others who visit the area.

What makes this cottage unique

Beautiful waterfront property on the "quiet" side of the peninsula but centrally located to everything that Door County has to offer.

Everything a family needs!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 6 adults, a toddler and newborn stayed here for a week in early June. The house was sparkling clean and attractively furnished, and has a roomy kitchen stocked with everything you need if you want to cook there, including salt, pepper, a full spice rack, etc. In fact, I'd check in to the house before getting groceries & essentials, because there's more there than you'd expect. Newer appliances all work fine. No dishwasher, but we used paper plates most of the time. Plenty of hot water for everyone to shower. The wi-fi was great. We really enjoyed the big table on the screened porch so we could all eat or play cards together. The toddler loved the backyard and all the toys and flotation devices for kids. (Little ones must be supervised 100% when in the yard of course, due to Hwy E adjoining the lot and the lake access.) The sunset views and all the boats/kayak/canoe were a big plus. The fishermen/women in our group went out 3 or 4 times, but saw no pan fish in Kangaroo Lake, so maybe this isn't a fishing destination, but otherwise, this is a great property for a family vacation. The owners are quick to respond to any questions and to remedy any concerns you might have.

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at our cabin. It is important to us that our cabin is clean for our renters and the kitchen is stocked well to make it like home. We have 3 little kids, so we try to provide fun toys, pack n play, booster seat, etc to make it easier on families. Thank you again for staying at our cabin.

Best family vacation ever!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have dreamed for years of spending a week in a lake cabin when our children were adults. That is now the case and we spent a week at this property with our four children, their spouses and our four grandchildren, as well as my sister and brother-in-law.

Everything was exactly as represented on the VRBO website and all of the previous reviews. The accommodations were ideal, the setting serene and relaxing and the amenities comprehensive. We especially enjoyed the large dining table, long enough and with enough chairs, for all of us to share meals together. We used every one of the water toys-motor boat, row boat, canoe, kayak and paddle board-every day. It was also very helpful to have a good supply of life preservers in assorted sizes. The warm and shallow water was perfect for the grands to splash and play.

Having a pack-and-play there for the babies was so convenient, too, and made things easier. There was so much room to spread out that we never once felt that we were crowded or on top of one another. The lake access was perfect! The large lawn leading down to the water offered both full sun and full shade all day long. We spent hours and hours on the comfortable lounge chairs and Adirondack chairs provided by the Sundeens.

The Sundeens had left a gift basket for us; such a nice touch. We enjoyed the pancakes and maple syrup for breakfast one of the mornings. The kitchen is fully stocked with all of the small appliances and utensils you would need and also boasted enough cutlery for all of us for each meal. Having two full baths and a half bath were so great with all of us there together, too.

The house itself has wonderfully updated bathrooms and kitchen, along with the charm and character of a lake house, with the wood floors and paneling in the living areas and bedrooms. The tile flooring, too, is perfect for lots of dripping and sandy traffic. It was so simple to just sweep up and keep going.

We loved our time all together and hope to return in the future. The Sundeens are gracious and generous hosts and even contacted us our first day to make sure we were comfortably settled in and followed up with a contact at the end of the week, too.

Thank you, Sundeens, for a wonderful experience. This was our first VRBO rental; you've set the bar very high!

Great Door County Rental

  • 5 of 5

We have just spent our 7th Fourth of July week in the Lakeside cottage which is more like a house. We are 3 generations and there is plenty of space for sleeping, eating and hanging around both inside and outside. The kitchen has everything you might expect to find in a rental and many things you do not usually find.

Our grandsons spent hours fishing from the dock(they do not need a fishing license if under 16) and catching small fish. Worms were their bait of choice. They spent part of each day playing on the water and using the kayak, and paddle board. we did not use the canoe or boat this year. When on land they made use of the grassy area near the extra parking area for football, soccer and kickball.

The outside area is well equipped with seating, patio table and picnic table as well as grill and firepit. Use of the garage is great for storing the bikes at night. From the cottage it is a short bike ride into Baileys Harbor and even our youngest has made the trip since he was 5..

Maureen and Ryan are very easy to deal with and we will be back again next year..

Beautiful, spacious, and filled with amenities and warm touches!

  • 5 of 5

The owners of the property know how to make their guests feel at home with all the ingredients of a home away from home. The amenities furnished inside and out made our stay comfortable, relaxed and welcoming. Upon entering we could tell that it was well-maintained and clean. Their welcome note and basket was such a nice touch. Even though there were only four adults in our party, we could tell how a family with small and/or older children would truly find the accommodations and thoughtful child-centered amenities quite amazing. The outside amenities would truly add to family fun as well. The description of the property is accurate, but upon arriving we found it to be beyond our expectations.

We certainly hope to return again next year.

Beautiful, well-equipped lakefront house. Perfect for kids!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at the Lakeside house! The house had plenty of room for us to spread out and the Sundeen family made sure the house was well stocked with anything we might need in the house, kitchen or by the water! The lake was a perfect place for our four year old to splash around. It was shallow, warm and not too wavy in Kangaroo Lake. The boat house had several inflatables we used, along with a paddle board, motor boat, canoe and tandem kayak. We used it all! We sat by the fire pit a few nights and definitely made good use of the grill and picnic table with a view of the lake.

The house was well-located and only a short drive to Baileys Harbor (we found the grocery store there and a little beach), Jacksonport (cute farmer's market with amazing corn and baked goods! Nice little beach right at the park)), and also to Sister Bay (we loved Wild Tomato and Door County Creamery), Fish Creek, etc. It's even walking distance to Coyote Roadhouse restaurant, that we really enjoyed.

Sleeping quarters were adequate and all bedding being provided made for way less packing for our family! The house did not have AC (which I would have enjoyed being 7 1/2 months pregnant), but the whole house fan seemed to really bring in the cooler evening air, and plenty of box fans were provided that we used at night.

The only downside to the property is that it's closer to the road that one might like, but we really didn't mind it. The only traffic was really families bringing their kids to fish from the road in Kangaroo Lake.

Really a perfect vacation property for our family. We're hoping to be back next year!

The Sundeen family was very easy to work with, and provided quite a nice experience at the house.

The best vacation house we've rented in Door County so far!
