Bigger than expected!

  • 5 of 5

The pics don’t give this home justice. It’s more spacious than I had anticipated. We had four adults and six children in our group. We had plenty of space! It’s the perfect location to kayak on the sound side or spend the day at the beach (or BOTH!) We’d definitely stay here again.

Very clean, issues with air conditioning and communication

  • 3 of 5

We vacation at Oak Island every year, but stay at different houses/locations. We were excited to stay on the far west end this year and the location is great — only a few minutes walk to the public access at the point. If you’d rather drive, there’s ample parking and port-a-potties at the access. There is also a partial ocean view from the front porch.

Issues with our stay - communication with Darryl was challenging. We use the HomeAway app and assumed it was the best way to ask questions. We sent a pre-arrival question about three days before our stay and never received a response. Not a huge deal until we arrived and the code to access the house keys was incorrect (code was provided in the app). We called Darryl to ask about the code and the call went straight to voicemail, where we left a message. After a few minutes with no return call, we then called the Maintenance number, who directed us to a spare set of keys. We never received a return call from Darryl, only an email after sending him a message (again thru the app) the following morning documenting our experience and frustration with his lack of communication and accurate check-in information.

The house was spotlessly clean, which was a relief. Wireless was spotty when multiple devices were in use. Bed linens are provided, but towels are not - including kitchen and hand towels. Paper products are also not provided, i.e. toilet paper, tissues, napkins, or paper towels.

The other big issue with the house is that the air conditioning does not properly cool the two downstairs bedrooms. The bedroom behind the stairs is the worst, easily 10+ degrees warmer than the living room. The ceiling fan only has one speed (very slow) and was inadequate to help cool the room. We resorted to sleeping with two fans (one brought from home, one poached from another bedroom) and with the bedroom door open to allow some air flow from the main living area. The air in all other parts of the house was great, which made the issue in the bedrooms so hard to understand.

The kids loved the toys provided in the loft area. That was a great asset the house. We didn’t use the backyard or fish cleaning station, but they were nice amenities to offer.

Overall, the house was just okay. We would not stay at this property again.

Beautiful Home with ocean and back Bay views!

  • 5 of 5

Double Trouble is a very nice and clean 4 bedroom home that we enjoyed very much at the end of Oak Island. There is a front covered deck along with an open rear deck that has nice views of the ocean and Bay. Regardless of the time of day you could always find shade, a nice breezes coming through the property. We have a dog and really appreciated the back fenced yard and given the gate system we could let the dog out on the deck and he could work his way down to the back fenced in yard without constant supervision.

The end of the island is very Nice and we enjoyed several beautiful sunsets. The dunes and grasses are well preserved between the beach and a limited single family housing The beach wraps around this end of the island to the bay and made for many enjoyable walks

There also was a nice restaurant/bar and marina a few blocks away that makes for a convenient lunch and dinners.

We are already making plans for our return next year.

Top Notch

  • 5 of 5

We totally enjoyed our 4-day stay at Double Trouble. The house was just as advertised - very clean, well-appointed, and with nice views of the ocean and sound. The layout was very comfortable for 6 adults and three children. The open floor plan provided plenty of room for family meals together and the decks were great for sitting outside and enjoying the evening breezes. It is a short walk to beach access at the Point. Darryl was easy to deal with and very accommodating. I would highly recommend this property - we hope to be back soon.

Clean, comfortable, great location

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Access to the beach for both fishing and swimming was very convenient. This suited our family of 4 adults and 3 grandchildren. Next time we need to rent a house on the island again this will be our first choice.
