We moved to Arizona in 1998, after living most of our lives in Kansas. We left the flat lands for the desert and never looked back. Our children are Arizona natives and it is the place we call home. However, during the hot summer months in the valley, we love to escape to the higher elevations, and Strawberry is perfect for that escape.

Close, but not too close, to the big city. A great weekend escape with four seasons and lots of pine trees. Relaxing family time, hunting, fishing and hiking opportunities. Antique shopping and so much more.
What a sweet home, just as the pictures showed. We stayed in the winter and did not realize that there was only a fireplace and space heaters to heat the entire house. After about an hour the fireplace did heat up the main rooms. It wasn't a problem as we had plenty of blankets at night. The house is in a great, quiet neighborhood and really cute. The owners were very friendly and helpful and we had a wonderful stay.
When we found the cabin, we were super excited because it was in a great location and for an awesome price. We got to the cabin later at night, after dark, and the set-up of everything (water & fire/heat) was a little difficult because it was dark and it was SOOO cold (probably not too bad, but being from Phoenix, we were definitely chilly!) The cabin was just as pictured and had plenty of room for everyone (2 families=4 adults, 3 kids). We also had everything we needed for cooking and there is a Walmart in Payson, for groceries, only about 15 minutes away. The Tonto Natural Bridge is about 10 minutes away and you MUST go see it, it's absolutely breathtaking! We also visited the Fossil Creek Creamery, which is even closer than the bridge, and that is an experience all in itself! You'll definitely walk away with fun stories! We saw elk early in the morning right in the backyard and the kids had a fantastic time playing outside. The front has a relaxing swing and the back has a nice outdoor patio set to sit in the warm sun. The only downsides we found were absolutely no coverage for AT&T users, but Verizon had perfectly good coverage. Also, we were cold for the first day-ish cause the only heating element is the fireplace in the main room. It took about 45 minutes to get the element going and then overnight to get the home comfortable. An easy fix would be to just bring warm jammies. We're so grateful for the "escape to the little patch of Strawberry" and are looking forward to our next trip! Thank you again!
My husband and I spent a three-day weekend here. The home is beautiful and rustic. The large front porch and porch swing provided the perfect opportunity to enjoy the lovely mid-Oct temperatures (upper 70's day/low 50's at night). Many of the trees were showing fall colors which was a special treat for us desert dwellers.
The bedrooms are very big and all of them included an extra chair or couch. If you bring a larger group (6 - 8 people) this is very nice because it allows for some time and space away from others if you want.
There is also plenty of seating in the living room area. Two recliners, a 3 seat couch, and love seat. There are extra chairs and a leaf for the kitchen table, too.
I loved the full-sized fridge and stove. We cooked breakfast both mornings and found all the utensils and pans we needed. I noticed there was also a slow cooker in the cupboard which is big enough for a meal for a bigger group. There is a small market in town and the next town (Pine) has a bigger grocery store if you like to make your own meals.
There are also several restaurants nearby in Strawberry and Pine. We really enjoyed the authentic Italian cuisine at Mama Joe's which is within walking distance (or a short 2 min drive).
We appreciated the string of lights on the porch when we were coming back from a late dinner. Those lights and reflectors at the driveway entrance made the house easier to find in the dark.
If you're an outdoorsy person, there are a lot of hiking trails, etc. nearby and the owners included information in the red notebook. This was very helpful since our AT&T cellphone service was not good at the house (but was fine on the main road).
The owners provided great instructions by email and printed out (in the red book) for turning on the water, water heater, etc. They were very responsive to any questions and they followed up afterwards to make sure we were satisfied with our stay.
Overall, we really enjoyed the beautiful property and a chance to be out in nice weather. This is a great property with a lot of amenties (outdoor grill, extra blankets, washer & dryer, and much more). We hope to come back again with some family and friends.
Great home to escape the heat of Phoenix! Cute and comfortable vacation rental. Very spacious and enjoyed the large front and back patios.
The property was a 100% plus 1% great! Had my kids going crazy in the beautiful yard they have and very quiet and relaxing for us adults (wife and I). I would definitely get back to the owners to rent the place out again. Owners are amazingly nice and very helpful when we needed help. Place is just great all around! Comfortable beds, great location!! Thanks again and much mahalo!!
The home was well equipped with any/every thing you would need for a comfortable stay. A great front porch with a swing, a large covered
patio with a yard. The grandkids played badminton, we roasted marshmallows and made s'mores. We were able to eat our evening meal
out on the patio each evening. No bugs!!! The weather was perfect, especially evenings and early morning. Our last morning temp was 44.
It was difficult to leave this wonderful haven and head back to high temps in the valley. We hope to return to this "little patch of Strawberry"
in the very near future. Kay family from Gilbert, AZ
