Overview

About the property

3 bedroom/2 bath lakefront cottage

Our lakefront cottage is called "Remember When".

Remember when life was simpler during those family get-a-ways to the lake? You can recreate yesteryear when retreating to "Remember When". Extensive upgrades and renovations were just completed in March of 2016! This lakefront home offers stunning views and quiet lakefront living.

You'll love the wood planked walls, wood ceilings, and wood floors, along with the wide open lakefront vistas through the many large windows. A spacious deck off the sun room offers commanding views of the lake. At about 30 feet in elevation above the lake level, you will love spending leisure time here, both day and night!

The large dock has both open and covered areas. The covered areas are great during the summer mid-day heat and during a passing rain shower. Plenty of space for fishing on this 80 foot wide x 45 foot deep dock area!

One of the two covered boat slips is available for your boat with advance notice. If you have jet skis, bring them along as you have use of two jet ski lifts. There is even a lake level platform for easy access to your kayak or canoe! A Leon County maintained cement boat ramp with 2 floating docks is available nearby down the street.

Two bedrooms and one full bath are located on the main level. There is a downstairs, ground level, "walk out basement" bedroom with lots of extra sleeping space. This downstairs bedroom has it's own covered AND screened-in lanai. A nice place to hang out during the mid day sun or passing rain shower! This particular downstairs space offers privacy and separation for an extra couple or or adult kids.

For the convenience of coming off the dock or lake along with the ground floor bedroom, there is a new outdoor covered and private bathroom that features a hot/cold shower, toilet and sink, each in it's own room. Even a sitting area! This is located at the entrance to the walkout basement bedroom. There is a covered walkway from the downstairs bedroom to the outdoor bathroom in case it rains. You'll love how this new addition enhances lake life and even makes you feel like you're in the mountains!

There are just 3 steps up to the main level front door. The downstairs is located down some exterior stairs at ground level as well. "Remember When" is advantageous for folks that prefer not to navigate lots of stairs.

The front of the home offers plenty of parking, even for your boat trailer. Please call or email us anytime, day or night, with any questions or to secure your lakefront get-a-way. We'd love for you to create memories at our lake house so that you'll also fondly "Remember When".

About Glenn and Lawson Smith

We both grew up in the Lake Talquin area, with Lawson in Gadsden County, which borders the north shore of Lake Talquin, and Glenn in nearby Tallahassee. Lawson has wonderful memories of when her family owned a home on Lake Talquin during the 1960s and '70s.

We're thrilled to continue making memories with our adult kids and grandkids at a lake house and a lake that is frozen in time. We'd love to host you or your family for a couple's weekend or a family outing. Thank You for considering a stay at our cottage, "Remember When"!

Why Glenn and Lawson Smith chose Tallahassee

We chose this home due to it's superb location on a gentle bluff at the large part of the lake. The custom built features and details of the cute cottage, breathtaking views, and the dock's extra large living areas sold us right away! The convenience to Tallahassee and the beaches are an added bonus!

What makes this cottage unique

What makes this cottage special is the charm and the interior's attention to details. In addition, the lake life is enjoyable from both inside the home and throughout the large lake level living spaces!

Fantastic property

  • 5 of 5

We loved our entire experience here, including meeting the delightful owner. The property is so cozy and relaxing you hate to drive away from it. It is beautifully and thoughtfully decorated with comfy couches and outdoor perches and every amenity is included like a magnifying mirror in bathroom which I appreciated as I forgot my own. Loved all the magazines placed around and the kayak at our disposal. Landscaped areas outdoors enhanced opportunities to be close to the lake at all times of the day. It is handy to the trails of Lake Talquin forest and to places to hike like Leon Sinks trail south of Tallahassee and fun to explore city restaurants to combine outdoors with upscale eating. Plan to come again. Thank's for your hospitality.

Great place to spend a weekend!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this lakefront home for 3 days, and it was a really nice getaway. The view is fantastic, and they have a really nice backyard setup. Plenty of amenities, with a TV in every room (though we didn't use it, outside was too nice!) and WiFi (which is nice, because service can be spotty). I would definitely come back here again.

Charming!!

  • 5 of 5

It was such a perfect vacation spot(other than Hurricane Irma). It had everything we needed and are so sad that we had to cut the stay short. However, the owners were so accomodating and extremely generous regarding our stay. I loved the fact the the several times i had concerns i was answered immediately whether it was by text or email. I will definetely return next year if our children are still in Tallahassee.

Awesome outdoor area

  • 5 of 5

I really enjoyed my stay here. The house is small but comfortable. We weren't there to stay inside. The outdoor area had multiple areas to enjoy. There's a very nice dock. I brought my boat and enjoyed fishing the lake and kept my boat in the boat house during my stay. The owner gave helpful information regarding boating on the lake. Wakulla Springs is an easy drive. We'd been before but used the opportunity to go again. Tallahassee is also an easy drive. Be sure to do your research on Lake Talquin if you plan on bringing a boat because there are a lot of stumps (which equals good fishing). Nice, relaxing stay.

Owner's Response: That's great that our lake cottage was a base for nearby attractions! There is so much to do within an hour away, including the coast! Bringing your boat helps you maximize the 12 mile long lake experience. We're so pleased that you enjoyed the various outdoor areas! Thank you very much for your stay and your wonderful review! $85.00 Cleaning fee which includes clean linens and bath towels.

If you bring your dog, we have a $25.00 pet fee. Due to the fact that your pet is not familiar with his/her surroundings at the house, please bring a kennel in case you plan to leave him/her alone. Lastly, please keep your doggies from barking so as to not disturb the neighbors.

If you need to cancel, we provide a refund, (minus the 12.5% tax that we do not pursue which acts as our administrative fee), only if we're able to re-rent the dates that you had been holding, which had prevented anyone else from reserving those dates.
