About Karen Hoff

Although a native of Michigan, I spent the last 30 years in New Jersey where my husband and I have restored an 1850s Victorian and raised 2 sons who currently reside in Atlanta.. After retiring from a 30 year banking career as a Commercial Lending Officer, I came to Apalachicola for a vacation and fell in love with the quaint unpretentious aura of the town. As a history buff, the area presents opportunities to explore museums and historic homes. My favorite is the Historic Homes Tour which is sponsored by Trinity Episcopal Church during the first weekend in May. Although I have spent years enjoying the Atlantic Ocean in New Jersey, the beaches on St. George Island are ranked #3 in the country and only a 15 minute drive away. On St George Island, I have experienced the white sandy beaches of the Florida panhandle and taken a tour of the St George lighthouse with spectacular views from the top. On the island, the State Park offers an opportunity to enjoy either the Apalachicola Bay or the Gulf of Mexico and has limited crowds, plenty of parking and very clean facilities.

Why Karen Hoff chose North West Florida

The interior living/dining area is fully surrounded by windows to allow viewing the sights from the comfort of your home. Downtown Apalachicola with its shops, art galleries and restaurants are just a short walk away so there is no need to use your car to enjoy the town's charm.

What makes this house boat unique

Being directly on the water and moored at the end of the dock, the General Lee is in a prime location to enjoy panoramic views of both sunrises and sunsets, the full moon reflecting off the water and an unobstructed view of a wide variety of water activity.

Where else can you have a floating vacation with peace and quiet, away from all the hustle and bustle, but right outside your parking lot is the quaint downtown of Apalachicola. The perfect combination.

Karen was always available and responsive to our needs. It really was the best kind of getaway for us. We are already planning a return.

Met expectations

Houseboat was quaint, and well located for all the shopping, dining and fishing activities that we enjoyed. St. George Island is a 15 minute drive over two bridges and well worth the trip.

Accommodations were clean, comfortable and adequate, although we were plagued with untold numbers of ants both inside and out that seemed to appear without warning. Owner was taking steps to eradicate the nuisance but problem was not corrected during our stay.

If you are looking for something out-of-the-ordinary and memorable, this is your answer. We would definitely do it again.

Houseboat experience

The beautiful Apalachicola River is the setting for this houseboat...It flows by right outside your screened in porch. The living area and kitchen is well equipped and comfortable as are the bedrooms and bathrooms. We loved sitting at the table on the porch in the mornings with our coffee. Since its April, the weather couldn't have been better ! The Wifi was able to handle our needs when we wanted to check in on the rest of the world. Absolutely beautiful area and town. If you like "old" Florida before it became " tourist " Florida, you'll love this place !

A surreal and relaxing experience!

Thanks, Karen, for a perfect setting for an annual reunion among two best friends. Your house boat was a unique and relaxing experience and we enjoyed every minute of it - along with, of course, your quaint town. I believe I've had my fill of oysters for the next SEVERAL months and, in addition, the ones in Apalachicola will be hard to top.

So thoughtful of you to lend us your fishing poles. I caught my first fish ever off the top deck of your house boat while enjoying some fine wine and conversation.

Thanks for everything! It was perfect.
