About Jamie Margolis
I work as a learning specialist. I have painted most of the house over the years and left much of its character, I believe, in the process. We recently added insulation to the basement and a heat pump to the rear room (the one with the skylights), which has made this once cold room (it didn't have any heating previously!) into a great place to hang out. I love photography and try to have some beautiful images in the rooms. I value greatly the outdoors and having quiet spaces in which to read and relax as well.
Jamie Margolis purchased this House in 2013
Why Jamie Margolis chose West Brattleboro
We are both in love with the outdoors and have found that where we live is wonderful. Our property is located in an area that allows one to quickly get into some wonderful natural areas. It is also close to the Brattleboro farmer's market and to a few local farms that sell amazing produce. The main portion of Brattleboro is less than 10 minutes from the house and we love the movie theater (you have to go there), and activities like Gallery Walk (the first Friday of each month) as well as the Vermont Center for Photography and so many other things in this area. Great restaurants and some pretty amazing stores too.
What makes this House unique
There are some great events that take place throughout the year (Running of the Heifers is pretty cool), and Brattleboro has a nice cross country skiing area about 10 minutes from the house as well as some really amazing cross country skiing areas in under an hour (Prospect Mountain is great too and has snow late into the season). There is also ice skating near the house, some great ice-cream over in Guilford, Ice Fishing, a cool ski Jumping Competition in February and from the house you can be downhill skiing in about 35 minutes.
Please note the Check-in and Check-out times: I am flexible about these so please contact me if there is an issue. My reason for giving those times has to do more with the person who endeavors to help me out with the cleaning and I go by her schedule. So, just send me a note on this and most times I can be accommodating! This is a non-smoking house so please don't smoke inside the premises. Please take care of the house. I have painted it over the last three years and though there are antiques, there are also original art pieces (I am a photographer) and we truly value the floors. If you use the fireplace, please use only dried wood and only use this if you have experience with fireplaces. Also, we ask that you do not host parties on the premises. There is a great deal to do in this area so I am sure you will love this area. Also, the rooms are set-up for those who may need to do a bit of work as well and the Wi-Fi for use is dependable and fast.

Lovely home. Comfortable beds. Great pressure and hot water in the shower. Convenient to downtown Brattleboro. Nice to have parking for two cars in the driveway.
Nice to have a convenient washer/ dryer/ dishwasher. Spent most of our days out of the house with our Brattleboro family so only real use of the kitchen was breakfast and a big morning of prepping three vegetable sides to bring to our Thanksgiving w the family. Only criticism is that kitchen lacks a few key equipment items. Couldn’t find spoon measures, a roasting pan, and another item or so. I travel w my own chef’s knives so that wasn’t a problem but the one provided would not really handle the heavy prep of multiple vegetables.
Overall loved our stay; hosts were very responsive and we would certainty hope to rent this lovely home again when we are traveling again to Brattleboro.
Great place, centrally located to major routes and quaint shops.
We enjoyed our stay. It was perfect for our little family. It was also very close to family and friends which was a bonus for us!
Delightful, clean, comfortable, cozy and quiet
We celebrated our wedding anniversary with a short but delightful stay at this very lovely home. Everything about the home is thoughtful and artful and comfortable. It's also perfectly quiet and peaceful, especially the big sunroom with skylights, where you feel like you are outside in the backyard while you relax, read, or rest. (We were lucky enough to enjoy a fantastic thunderstorm there.) The kitchen is clean and inviting, the bedrooms are comfy, the bathrooms are adorable, the dining room is cozy, the living room is bright and elegant (try the massage chair). Lovely art, decor, and furnishings throughout the house.
We didn't have any need to contact the host or caretaker during our stay because we experienced no problems of any kind, but the hosts were very available and communicative before our stay and we had all the information we needed.
We had a great experience and we would definitely love to return to this home next time we go to Brattleboro.
Thanks so much for your kind words! Super happy that you had a great time. Wishing you all the best and hope to see you again. J
Pix don't do this property justice
This place is waaay bigger than it looks! And it's so nice!
My husband, my mom and I stayed for two nights while in town for a wedding. We enjoyed relaxing in the bright, airy living room and den and exploring the surrounding area.
The mattresses were exceptional - so much so that we were digging around to find tags to see what they were (Sealy). I was concerned about my mom because she has back problems, but she said she slept like a baby and had no issues.
As I understand it, this is a summer house for the owners. There is a lovely hodgepodge of furniture and decor, including so many interesting pieces of art and furniture. There were little surprises in every room.
The kitchen is huge. The cabinets are old, solid wood and probably the most durable things you've ever seen. The fridge (and everything, really) was spotless. The owner provided coffee (yay!) and all the serving and cooking ware someone might need.
The bathroom was stocked with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, a hair dryer, and plenty of towels. There were extra pillows and blankets in the closet. WiFi connection was easy and worked well.
As I mentioned above, the place was absolutely spotless. The owner left a booklet with instructions on how to use anything we might need, including all the TVs and the washer and dryer.
The house is about a 10-minute drive from downtown Brattleboro, which is a charming little town full of shops and restaurants. The Vermont Deli is maybe a five-minute drive from the house, and we stopped there twice - once for lunch and then again for breakfast on the way out. Highly recommend. So delish.
There's a farmer's market nearby on weekends. We didn't have time to stop, but it looks like a huge draw.
We would rent this place again without hesitation. We had a great time and the owner (Jamie) was very communicative and made the whole process very easy.
Wow! Thanks for such kinds words. We love this place and were so happy that it met your expectations. Jamie
Comfortable, peaceful home
We very much enjoyed visiting Brattleboro. The home was comfortable, peaceful and convenient. We really appreciated getting to stay here. Owner was responsive and helpful.
a nice place to stay
but we wish the beds were bigger...Jamie is a wonderful host...kind and helpful! A beautiful house and great location!
Oh, sorry to hear that. We have such wonderfully sized beds so it's a bit confusing as to how much bigger (especially the bed to the room on the right) they could be. Also, this was your second time staying here so such a comment comes as a big surprise as you were happy with our place the first time you stayed and did not have such a complaint.
Nice quite neighborhood with great neighbors and the sheriff almost next door. Minutes from dirt roads and also close to Route 9 and easy access towards Wilmington and downhill skill areas. Very, very, convenient to Route 91 as well.
