Welcome to our airy, light-filled penthouse on the central plaza, at the very heart of L'Isle sur la Sorgue. This is our home away from home, where we live when we are not in Bend, Oregon, or exploring the dusty backroads of some far off country.
Imagine complete privacy while being at the hub of all L'Isle sur a Sorgue has to offer. In this most central of central locations, the old town of L'Isle sur la Sorgue and all its charms are mere footsteps away.
The penthouse occupies the top two floors of a 17th-century building which fronts the church plaza. The building has all the sense of history that a 300-year-old structure should, even, from time to time, scents and sounds that breeze through thanks to vagaries of weather. Hard as we try we are often powerless to prevent such intrusions, an unavoidable companion to the old building's charm.
We have furnished and stocked Bouquet de Provence to have personality while being comfortable and welcoming. You'll relax in cool and spacious rooms, dine al fresco on the broad rooftop terrace, perhaps soak in the outdoor jacuzzi after a day of cycling and exploration.
We regret that Bouquet de Provence is not handicap accessible, as there is no elevator in the building.
The entry floor has two generous bedrooms, each with ample closet and shelf space. Luxurious Yves Delorme sheets dress the beds, which we'll arrange as queen or twins, as you prefer. Across from each bedroom is a stone and tile bathroom with walk-in tiled shower complete with rainfall showerhead, towel heater and hair dryer, stocked with Marseille soaps and fluffy towels! Of course the washer and dryer are at your disposal.
Sunlight fills the second floor where you'll relax in the airy living room, surrounded by photos from our worldwide travels, intriguing books on Provence, France, photography, art and, yes, some good novels and old-fashioned mysteries as well, because vacations are about pleasure and fun. With HVAC throughout, you'll stay rested and fresh in the summer, cozy and warm in the winter.
SPECIAL NOTE: To best accommodate our visitors during the high season, we do not specify a day of the week for arrivals. As a result, from time to time, you may see a gap in rental availability that is less than the five day minimum required. If you see one such and wish to take advantage of it, please do contact us. We may be able to make it available to you for that shorter period of time.
And now, it's the morning of your first day in Bouquet de Provence! Fling open the wooden shutters in your bedroom to reveal the 17th-century church--Collegiale Notre Dame des Anges-- directly across from you. Below, the normally quiet square may already be transformed into a vibrant and colorful outdoor market, held each Thursday and Sunday. It's justifiably considered one of the most famous in Provence.
Fortify yourself for the day by joining the locals to pick up a fresh baguette or croissant at any of five bakeries within steps from your door. Or order the petit dejeuner (breakfast) at Cafe de France, under the massive plane trees on the side of the plaza.
With breakfast over, you may wish to discuss plans for your stay with the genial and well-informed hosts at the Tourism Office, across the plaza from Bouquet de Provence. Or perhaps the ancient streets which radiate out from Bouquet de Provence will lure you on a fine ramble down narrow winding lanes, across small bridges and beside placid canals where ducks dabble and the occasional white swan glides by. Keen for a bike ride out of town? The bike rental shop also is right around the corner!
Pause at one of a number of charming riverside cafes for a Perrier with cassis syrup, an espresso, or a chilled glass of rose. You can't get lost as all roads eventually lead back to the square and the red door to your penthouse.
After a morning roaming market food stands and alluring village shops, return to your roomy country kitchen where a rustic plank farm table beckons for a feast to be laid. Fancy a glass of wine or evening snack at home? Perhaps a little sunbathing or quiet time to catch up on emails and that good book? Slide open the floor-to-ceiling glass doors onto the broad rooftop terrace, where you can dine, soak in the hot tub in complete privacy or watch a lemony Provencal moon rise over red clay tile roofs.
We want you to love L'Isle sur la Sorgue as we do. Since this is where we stay when we are in France we're keen to share with you our favorite local spots. In the apartment you'll find a binder revealing everything from where to get the most decadent handmade chocolates to our favorite little wine bar. Check out our favorite haunts in neighboring Luberon and Mt. Ventoux villages. Or spend a day in the rich history of Avignon, half an hour away.
Our property concierge will pre-stock the kitchen with a basket of seasonal fresh fruit, local jam, tea, coffee, milk and sugar, as well as yogurt and muesli. She'll personally show you around the apartment. As for those special extras, she's constantly dreaming up ideas to help you add that special memorable touch to your vacation. With modest notice she can stock the fridge for you with lactose free or gluten free products. She also can: arrange a massage therapist to come to the apartment, deliver a spectacular flower arrangement created for a special celebration, have French champagne chilling for your arrival or even cater a private dinner al fresco on your terrace. Email us your dreams and we'll let you know possibilities and costs. Welcome to Bouquet de Provence!
