Overview

About the property

4 Bedroom, 3 Bathroom, Sleeps 8

A very small farm nestled in the middle of everywhere. Private and peaceful, but located minutes from award winning dining, music, arts, theater and poetry. Only 2 hours from New York and Boston, Farmington has the best of everything.

We live in a separate house on the property. We have pigs in the forest and sheep in the fields.

We stop by twice a day to take care of the animals and guests can tag along to do "chores " if they wish.

About Bobbie Emery

This land has been in my family for over 100 years, and I am hoping to keep it undeveloped for 100 more. Keeping livestock on the property and renting out the house is all part of trying to get the land to "earn it's keep". I was incredibly lucky to grow up here, and I enjoy sharing this special place with others.

Bobbie Emery purchased this house in 2011

Great Home & Owner - Fun time for all

  • 5 of 5

What am incredible home on a beautiful farm. Four bedrooms with three full baths. Beds were extremely confrontable. 2 bedrooms up stairs and 2 downstairs. There was a large living room and family room. House was decorated great. Lots of items in the kitchen to use. The screened in porch as wonderful. We started our day with deer in the back yard. Then we could walk over to see the pigs, hens, and goats. What a blast! House was spotless. Lots of towels and blankets to use. The owners were great to work with. They answered emails immeditately. Total pleasure to talk with. We learned a lot about the animals. The location has lots of great things to done. We were able to see Mark Twins house, Harriet Beecher Stowe and other things within 15-20 minutes of the house. House was in the country surrounds by lovely woods. Easy to get to liquor and food store. Gas station close. Excellent restaurants to eat in or take back to the home. We loved it so much we are booking again in 2018. Had a blast. Highly recommend for Girls Weekend away or family reunion. Try a restaurant called the "The Bear and the Cook". It was fabulous. Wish they would open in NJ.

A spacious and comfortable home, along with a wonderfully warm welcome

  • 5 of 5

We recently spent 3 nights at the Moose Lodge and loved it. The house is nicely sited on a slope at the end of a long driveway perhaps 150 yards from the road; although it is well screened on all sides by trees, it is quite sunny with a nice open yard. While the surrounding area is pretty well built up, the house feels secluded and it was something of a surprise each morning to drive out and discover the busy nearby roads.

The house has four bedrooms, two living rooms, a formal dining room, two-and-a-half baths and a big kitchen. The layout is effectively two separate two-bedroom apartments, linked by a mudroom with a shared kitchen and dining room, so it would be perfect for two couples or families. All the furniture is extremely comfortable and the kitchen very well appointed; when we arrived we found a well-stocked refrigerator and a lemon poppy pound cake, which was a wonderful welcome. The owners have decorated the house with some delightful art, including two playful, roughly human sized statues of giraffes in an alcove in the dining room.

We discovered that there is a lot to see in the Hartford area: we spent one afternoon at the New England Air Museum in Windsor Locks and another at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art in Hartford. The Air Museum has over 80 aircraft, from various eras, as well as a collection of engines, instruments, aircraft parts, uniforms, etc. The Atheneum is a jewel of a museum--it's small but has a terrific collection. We also spent some time in nearby Elizabeth Park, with its spectacular rose garden.

We didn't meet Bobbie on this trip, but she kept in touch by text, offering lots of helpful suggestions for sightseeing and restaurants. All in all, this was one of the most welcoming, comfortable homes we have rented in many years of travel and we're looking forward to returning!

Beautiful home and property - perfect place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved staying at Moose Lodge! The house is beautiful, very spacious and has everything you need. It has such a great charm to it and we loved seeing the farm animals every day. It is secluded enough to make you feel as if you're in the middle of the woods but is close to any amenity you would need. Bobbie was great and the price per night was reasonable. I would highly recommend this location to anyone looking to stay in the area!!

A characterful, beautiful Connecticut farm house with perfect hosts!

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed our week staying at the farmhouse.

The house itself is large and well kitted out, with the perfect balance of modern amenities in the kitchen whilst maintaining a traditional, spotlessly clean and homely feel throughout. We found the ground floor accommodation perfect for our family of four, whilst our relatives (2 other couples) with bedrooms upstairs were able to rest upstairs out of earshot of the little ones. Our children, 6 & 8 years old, loved feeding the pigs and chickens in the mornings.

Bobbie and Anne were so accommodating and thoughtful. It was like staying with family in many respects. Our party had a problem with a hire car whilst there and they couldn't have been more helpful. An unexpected bonus for us was the conversation with Bobbie and Anne. They clearly know a great deal about the environment in which they live and earn a living from.

A lovely house, in which we enjoyed an amazing week, with the perfect hosts. Thank you Bobbie and Anne!

Not just a home - an experience!

  • 5 of 5

We were so happy to find this gem of a home in CT. The house is clean and incredibly well stocked. Bobbie even left us eggs from her farm, milk, and a few other items to get us going in the morning. The house has plenty of room with 2 bedrooms upstairs (one with two twins, and one with a queen), and two bedrooms downstairs (one with two twins, and one with a queen). It also has everything you could need for your stay including a washer and dryer, washing machine, and a very well equipt kitchen.

Bobbie was also kind enough to let us help her feed her pigs, sheep, and chickens. When we were there, one of the mama pigs got upset with her piglet & tossed him up in the air. My son now says that pigs can fly!! This house was definitely more than just a home - it was an experience!!

A wonderful place that we would stay at again.

Beautiful roomy house in the country yet close to everything.Perfect for large families.

  • 5 of 5

We came to the area from Florida for a family wedding with our grown kids and grandkids aged 8 months to 7 years old. We wanted a house we could spread out in and have a gathering spot for out of town guests to hang out since it's rare for everyone to get together at the same time. It was perfect! It was out in the country with room for the kids to run around outside but close to everything. It was impeccably clean and had everything we needed including a pack n play and booster seat for the baby. The beds were comfy and there were plenty of towels for everyone. The kids (and adults) loved the pigs, sheep and chickens and were allowed to feed them when Bobbie and Anne came by twice a day. They also gave us several suggestions for restaurants and things to do in the area.

All in all it exceeded our expectations and I would recommend this place to anyone. There is nothing I would change and we hated to leave. We have rented several houses before when we went on vacation and this was the best one by far.
