A very small farm nestled in the middle of everywhere. Private and peaceful, but located minutes from award winning dining, music, arts, theater and poetry. Only 2 hours from New York and Boston, Farmington has the best of everything.
We live in a separate house on the property. We have pigs in the forest and sheep in the fields.
We stop by twice a day to take care of the animals and guests can tag along to do "chores " if they wish.
This land has been in my family for over 100 years, and I am hoping to keep it undeveloped for 100 more. Keeping livestock on the property and renting out the house is all part of trying to get the land to "earn it's keep". I was incredibly lucky to grow up here, and I enjoy sharing this special place with others.
Bobbie Emery purchased this house in 2011
My brothers and I and our spouses met and stayed here for a large family event and it was great for us. We wanted a home-like atmosphere where some of us could stay up and talk while others could sleep, where we could cook and eat together, and have enough space to spread out as we wanted, and this place was perfect for our needs with a living room and large family room, a large table in the kitchen and a dining room as well, and beautiful outdoor areas also. The kitchen had everything we needed and very good work space, supplies for cooking were available (oil, salt, pepper, etc.) and fresh eggs and breakfast supplies were left for our visit. The decorating was tasteful, the bathrooms and kitchen have been updated, and it all worked well for us. We are wondering when we can go back!
My out-of-state family stayed at Moose Lodge at Clatter Ridge Farm when they came to celebrate our 40th anniversary with us. We all had a wonderful time! The house is spacious, attractive, very clean and comfortable. It provided a perfect gathering spot for us. A working farm with pigs and sheep in the fields and forest, it is also close to shops and restaurants.
Particularly special was the warm welcome we received from Bobbie and Anne. They are true stewards of the land, committed to their goal of keeping longtime family land undeveloped and productive. They are also gracious, helpful, interesting and interested hostesses.
We will definitely be back!
This quiet, restful lodge is conveniently located on the Boston-NYC corridor, yet at the same time in a different world. The Lodge lies at the base of a wooded hill with pastures filled with sheep below. Along with four bedrooms (two on the ground floor and two upstairs) and 3 baths, there is a lovely garden room where we watched the fireflies at night and a chipmunk scurry scurry about. One of the large sitting rooms has a cupboard full of games, adding to this ideal family retreat. Bobby was very friendly and helpful, while at the same time respecting our privacy. The kitchen has numerous choices for breakfast including some fresh eggs from their chickens. Farmington and a number of restaurants is just 4 minutes away so it was easy to drive there for dinner. This place is simply magical and a great deal!
We had the best time at this house! We were a family of 5 traveling to the area to visit family. The farmhouse is even bigger than it appears in the pictures with plenty of space to spread out! It is very clean, well appointed with tons of plush towels, well stocked kitchen and beautiful outdoor area. The hosts are wonderful and stopped by to welcome us and deliver us farm fresh eggs, pancake mix, coffee and juice which was such a nice touch! They also let the kids interact with the animals which was such a special treat!
We are frequent VRBO renters and this was the best property we have rented! We plan to visit again soon!
What a great place! The sheep and pigs are beautiful (and the kids in our group enjoyed spending some up-close time with the lambs), the house is lovely, and Bobbie and Anne were great hosts. The house is very spacious with TONS of living space (a formal-ish living room, a rec room with tons of games and puzzles, a dining room, a breakfast nook, a screened-in porch...) and nice sleeping spaces. Although it's quite close to the middle of Farmington, you feel a million miles away from it all in a very peaceful farm environment. Bobbie was very clear that we could have as much or as little to do with them and the caretaking of the farm as we wanted, which was perfect. All in all it was a great choice for the two families we had going to a college reunion (3 adults, 3 kids). Perfect for two families with children or several couples.
this house was an amazing stay. perfectly redone farm house with beautiful decorations, cozy bedrooms, a brand new kitchen with all the amenities you could need, comfy living and dining spaces, an outdoor patio and big yard with the property set back from the road... and the baby lambs in the yard are just absolutely the cutest! even better, Bobbie even let me bottle feed one- what gracious owners. there are nice hikes and walking trails and good restaurants and shopping right nearby, but, in my opinion, the best thing about this place was just staying in and enjoying all that it has to offer. if you're looking for a weekend getaway, this place is amazing. I'll be back!
