A very small farm nestled in the middle of everywhere. Private and peaceful, but located minutes from award winning dining, music, arts, theater and poetry. Only 2 hours from New York and Boston, Farmington has the best of everything.
We live in a separate house on the property. We have pigs in the forest and sheep in the fields.
We stop by twice a day to take care of the animals and guests can tag along to do "chores " if they wish.
This land has been in my family for over 100 years, and I am hoping to keep it undeveloped for 100 more. Keeping livestock on the property and renting out the house is all part of trying to get the land to "earn it's keep". I was incredibly lucky to grow up here, and I enjoy sharing this special place with others.
Bobbie Emery purchased this house in 2011
Our group had a great stay at this unique farm. Wonderful hosts.
I've used Homeaway several times and this residence by far is the best. The home is a great blend of a modern cabin with all the amenities you need. The animals close by are a huge plus if you have kids. Bobbie is very diligent and helpful and a great person to meet. Linens provided (great bedrooms), refrigerator full, and even a bottle of wine. Fantastic stay if you have a large family. A special experience!
SOOOO homey, comfortable and clean! A wonderful place to visit with family. My Mom is 85 and needs a walker to get around. She was able to get in and out of the house with ease and was even able to get to the pens to see the animals! Everyone old and young LOVED the animals. Ages ranged from 2 years old to 88. Bobbie and Anne are delightful. Very accommodating and with great info on the farm and the area. This is definitely our go to" house away from home" next time and every time we come to Connecticut.
We are sadly returning home from our recent weekend stay at Moose Lodge at Clatter Ridge.. And it was exactly what others have described as well- welcoming, spacious, and very comfortable. We arrived on a blustery October day to a warm home with the fridge stocked w milk, OJ, farm fresh eggs, and many basic essentials. The beds were super comfy with flannel sheets and the towels incredibly plush and plentiful. What is especially nice is that the home is stocked w many essentials that are really frustrating to buy for just a weekend stay- such as shampoo/conditioner/soap, paper towels, napkins etc -- which is really nice and unexpected.
However it is -- as always-- the human element that makes a stay memorable: enter Bobbie and Anne. They visited twice a day to feed the sheep and pigs- and took such time explaining about the animals and their routines. Our 9 year old was enthralled as well as ourselves. However, they are completely non intrusive if that is not your thing. The farm has been in Bobbie's family for generations, and you really get the sense of stewardship of the land- which is a lost and forgotten value.
Being in the farmhouse made me feel a connection to a bigger picture- a past that seamlessly evolved into the present. And Bobbie and Anne are the most genuine hosts to walk you through the history of what once was, and what now is...bucolic perfection.
Also- on a more practical note...I got an amazing cake 5 min away at Truffles for our 14 yr olds bday- scored great presents at Norstrom, 10 min away and had an awesome bday dinner. Best of all worlds.
My brothers and I and our spouses met and stayed here for a large family event and it was great for us. We wanted a home-like atmosphere where some of us could stay up and talk while others could sleep, where we could cook and eat together, and have enough space to spread out as we wanted, and this place was perfect for our needs with a living room and large family room, a large table in the kitchen and a dining room as well, and beautiful outdoor areas also. The kitchen had everything we needed and very good work space, supplies for cooking were available (oil, salt, pepper, etc.) and fresh eggs and breakfast supplies were left for our visit. The decorating was tasteful, the bathrooms and kitchen have been updated, and it all worked well for us. We are wondering when we can go back!
My out-of-state family stayed at Moose Lodge at Clatter Ridge Farm when they came to celebrate our 40th anniversary with us. We all had a wonderful time! The house is spacious, attractive, very clean and comfortable. It provided a perfect gathering spot for us. A working farm with pigs and sheep in the fields and forest, it is also close to shops and restaurants.
Particularly special was the warm welcome we received from Bobbie and Anne. They are true stewards of the land, committed to their goal of keeping longtime family land undeveloped and productive. They are also gracious, helpful, interesting and interested hostesses.
We will definitely be back!
