Overview

About the property

4 Bedroom, 3 Bathroom, Sleeps 8

A very small farm nestled in the middle of everywhere. Private and peaceful, but located minutes from award winning dining, music, arts, theater and poetry. Only 2 hours from New York and Boston, Farmington has the best of everything.

We live in a separate house on the property. We have pigs in the forest and sheep in the fields.

We stop by twice a day to take care of the animals and guests can tag along to do "chores " if they wish.

About Bobbie Emery

This land has been in my family for over 100 years, and I am hoping to keep it undeveloped for 100 more. Keeping livestock on the property and renting out the house is all part of trying to get the land to "earn it's keep". I was incredibly lucky to grow up here, and I enjoy sharing this special place with others.

Great Weekend on the Farm!

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have asked for a better experience! We were two families traveling from NY and Boston, we found a place to meet in the middle at Moose Lodge. We had 4 children between us, ranging from 1-6, each one of them had a great time! The house is big enough to maintain your space and the Kitchen/Playroom is far enough away to still enjoy the house after the kids went to bed. It was clean and well stocked. The one thing we didn't realize until we were there was that there really are no TV's, this wasn't a problem for us at all it just seemed like it should be noted. There was one that could be hooked up to a firestick I think but I'm not really sure, ask Bobbie if you're interested in booking.

Bobbie and Anne couldn't have been friendlier, the kids LOVED feeding the animals and started jumping and screaming when they would show up...however they were not intrusive at all! If we didn't ask them to text us when they came we would have had no idea that they were there. We plan to head back next summer to snuggle some new baby sheep!

Owner's Response: Hi Dana, I am so glad your kids had a fantastic time. We thoroughly enjoyed their enthusiasm! It's not every day that people jump up and down because they are so excited to see us. It made us feel like rock stars (okay- I realize it had more to do with the animals than us, but still...) I am sorry the cable tv wasn't working during your visit. I didn't realize there was a problem with the line until I read your review! We called the cable company and it should be repaired today. My apologies for the oversight and I am very glad it didn't affect your stay. See you in the Spring! Bobbie

The home was so warm and inviting. In addition to the beauty of the place, it was highly functional.

The owner didn't miss a detail. As a result, we could relax and truly enjoy our stay. They should serve as role models for other places.

Great Home & Owner - Fun time for all

  • 5 of 5

What am incredible home on a beautiful farm. Four bedrooms with three full baths. Beds were extremely confrontable. 2 bedrooms up stairs and 2 downstairs. There was a large living room and family room. House was decorated great. Lots of items in the kitchen to use. The screened in porch as wonderful. We started our day with deer in the back yard. Then we could walk over to see the pigs, hens, and goats. What a blast! House was spotless. Lots of towels and blankets to use. The owners were great to work with. They answered emails immeditately. Total pleasure to talk with. We learned a lot about the animals. The location has lots of great things to done. We were able to see Mark Twins house, Harriet Beecher Stowe and other things within 15-20 minutes of the house. House was in the country surrounds by lovely woods. Easy to get to liquor and food store. Gas station close. Excellent restaurants to eat in or take back to the home. We loved it so much we are booking again in 2018. Had a blast. Highly recommend for Girls Weekend away or family reunion. Try a restaurant called the "The Bear and the Cook". It was fabulous. Wish they would open in NJ.

A spacious and comfortable home, along with a wonderfully warm welcome

  • 5 of 5

We recently spent 3 nights at the Moose Lodge and loved it. The house is nicely sited on a slope at the end of a long driveway perhaps 150 yards from the road; although it is well screened on all sides by trees, it is quite sunny with a nice open yard. While the surrounding area is pretty well built up, the house feels secluded and it was something of a surprise each morning to drive out and discover the busy nearby roads.

The house has four bedrooms, two living rooms, a formal dining room, two-and-a-half baths and a big kitchen. The layout is effectively two separate two-bedroom apartments, linked by a mudroom with a shared kitchen and dining room, so it would be perfect for two couples or families. All the furniture is extremely comfortable and the kitchen very well appointed; when we arrived we found a well-stocked refrigerator and a lemon poppy pound cake, which was a wonderful welcome. The owners have decorated the house with some delightful art, including two playful, roughly human sized statues of giraffes in an alcove in the dining room.

We discovered that there is a lot to see in the Hartford area: we spent one afternoon at the New England Air Museum in Windsor Locks and another at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art in Hartford. The Air Museum has over 80 aircraft, from various eras, as well as a collection of engines, instruments, aircraft parts, uniforms, etc. The Atheneum is a jewel of a museum--it's small but has a terrific collection. We also spent some time in nearby Elizabeth Park, with its spectacular rose garden.

We didn't meet Bobbie on this trip, but she kept in touch by text, offering lots of helpful suggestions for sightseeing and restaurants. All in all, this was one of the most welcoming, comfortable homes we have rented in many years of travel and we're looking forward to returning!

Beautiful home and property - perfect place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved staying at Moose Lodge! The house is beautiful, very spacious and has everything you need. It has such a great charm to it and we loved seeing the farm animals every day. It is secluded enough to make you feel as if you're in the middle of the woods but is close to any amenity you would need. Bobbie was great and the price per night was reasonable. I would highly recommend this location to anyone looking to stay in the area!!
