Enjoyed stay at villa, great owner to work with

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the villa for 13 nights. Owner prepared unit for us a day early when we had problems at Lake Atitlan rental. The unit is perfect for a couple, very comfortable. We enjoyed the grounds, pool and friendly staff. We used the shuttle on several mornings when we needed to get to the bus station quickly for a weaving class in San Antonio and to see El Tenedor del la Cerro at the top of the street. Generally we walked the 3/4 mile into and back from town. Often we made two trips. We used the laundry facilities at the villas. It was about the same price as in town and we did not need to carry the heavy laundry there and back as we did once. As others have commented, the kitchen facilities are somewhat limited by no oven and limited equipment. To use the grill, one must make prior arrangements with maintenance which we did not know. But we were on vacation and ate most meals out with the exception of breakfast. Safety was never a concern at the resort. Any questions we had, were quickly answered by the owner.

I would recommend the new restaurant, Quiltro, on 7 Calle Pointe for an exceptional meal. It was the best we had in three weeks in Guatemala. We shared the tasting menu for a late lunch. Our last meal was at Fondu del Calle Real. We should have tried their Guatemalan specialties sooner. We found the food in restaurants to be close to US prices. We should have been more adventurous and tried the small local places. We had fun shopping for textiles in the consignment barn, Nim Po’t at 29 5th Avienda. For four mornings, we took a weaving class at the small textile museum in San Antonio. It gave us a better appreciation of the work involved in backstrap weaving.

Beautiful Villa & Community

  • 4 of 5

The villa and the Villa Orotava community are gorgeous and anyone unsure about safety or amenities when staying in Antigua would feel very safe and comfortable here. The owner was very responsive and accommodating however there are some things to be aware of if you're looking to stay longer than a weekend or week maybe. The kitchen does have a stove top and convection oven but cooking was not really conducive here. There is a community it BBQ grill that we used and enjoyed but the convection oven does not work like a regular oven so that did limit our cooking abilities. There also weren't many utensils or dishes for cooking a large meal or having more than a couple of people over to eat. There is also laundry available at the community but be warned, it's VERY expensive to do your own laundry there and we would recommend taking your laundry to one of the many laundry services in town. Doing our own laundry cost $150 Q's for 3 small loads and the dryers do not dry things completely. $150 Q's works out to be just about $20 USD. EXPENSIVE! The owner does have a very nice cleaning woman who will come by for $15/cleaning and she would do your laundry as well but we're just not the types to have people clean for us and not too comfortable with that but after learning how much the laundry cost to be able to do, we would recommend taking the owner up on that cleaning service maybe once a week, so that laundry is not a issue, of you're staying awhile.

The community couldn't be more beautiful, lots of sitting areas and cool things to look at, the heated pool was amazing, the administrative staff, security and grounds crews are all extremely friendly and helpful and we're sure the shuttle service would have been great too and we saw the shuttle constantly coming and going and around Antigua but we needed the exercise so we walked to town daily, which wasn't far at all and a nice walk. Overall we highly recommend staying here and believe anyone would greatly enjoy it, as long as they're aware of the small items we mentioned that we're really only things we noticed because we stayed for 3 weeks.

LOVELY!!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent 3 nights here and wish we could have stayed all week! It was a very lovely placed and the grounds are gorgeous. Even though you are right at the entrance to Antigua and near the main road you do not have issues with road noise. The grounds are manicured and you have all you need. If I had to come up with a "con" it would only be that there was no hanging space for clothes, but that would be the only complaint and it was minor. We didn't have time to use all of the facilities, but on grounds there is a lap pool and lots of outdoor seating, even a place to bbq. The villas have their own transportation in and out of Antigua so if you drive in, like we did, you can park your car and get back and forth without issues. We have stayed at many hotels in and around Antigua and even though we enjoyed those stays it was nice having more space and a kitchen to make our coffee in the morning. We could have a lazy morning in and start later in the day. Everything in the villa was just like you see in the pictures. The guards and staff were pleasant and Gabriel, the host was great. He communicated with us and made sure we had everything we needed. One other bit of information that might help you is to know that these Villas are the first gate when you turn on Calle Santa Ines, as the gate does not say Villas Luxury it says Villa Orotava. We look forward to staying here again. We found a treasure! If you choose this villa you will not regret it!

Great Villa, owner very helpful!

  • 5 of 5

This villa was very beautiful. The complex is safe, comfortable, and includes it all! There was free transportation included with the rental to take you in to town when you schedule it. Although town was a short walk from the villa. Antigua has it all, so there wasn't a worry of being left without any necessities. Gabriel, the owner, was very helpful throughout our entire stay. He was in contact with us for the duration of our trip, and helped to schedule pick up and drop off transportation to and from the airport. The property was very clean and included any items you would need (sheets, towels, dishes, even an apple tv!) for a leisurely vacation. A cleaner came by twice during our stay to refresh the villa while we were gone, everything was in order, we felt very safe. I would recommend this property for couple/family looking for a beautiful, close, safe place to stay while in Antigua. Looking for places to eat? Check out Cafe Condesa near the park central. Thank you for a wonderful vacation!
