As frequent travelers to B&B's, we have decided to make our home a B&B that is as convenient and comforting as the ones we like to stay at ourselves. After living in Portland for 13 years, we have agreed that a BnB is the best way to experience this beautiful area.
Location - This house has the perfect location for city and country people. It is only a 15 minute drive to downtown Portland while only 5 minute drive to the highway 26, which takes you to wineries, farms, hikes and the ocean.
Amount of People - We have enough room to accommodate for 16 people. There are 5 rooms that will fit 8 adults and 4 kids and if more room is needed then there are two futons that are queen sized when reclined. The dining room has plenty of space for all the guests because of its dining table that comfortably seats 13 people.
Wifi/TV - There are 3 TVs in the house with a wide variety of channels. We also have high speed internet.
Nearby the House - The chairs, tables and barbecue grill on the 560 sq foot deck make it perfect to lounge around on while the park behind the backyard is great for a relaxing, sunny day because of its tennis courts, playground and big field
Eating - We have supplied all of the kitchenware and tableware and a few basic ingredients such as sugar, coffee and tea. If you would like, we can stock the fridge with other food like eggs, bagels and butter.
Pictures - Below are photos of the house and a detailed floorplan that includes the furniture
A group of us (9 adult women), all friends from college days, had a great reunion weekend at Portland and this house was the perfect home base for our group. There are 9 beds in the house so everyone can have her own bed (some of us ended up sharing the bed so we could have accommodated even more people in the party if we need to). The basement level also has two bedrooms and living space - we didn't use the living space there but some of us did enjoy the quiet bedroom away from the crowd upstairs when a nap is in order.
The main level has a big family room with views into the backyard and green space. There is no house visible from the family room so it feels very private, quite and the green park in the back is very calming and pleasant to take a walk around. There is a creek even flowing across with flowers blooming around.
There is a nice long dinning table in the family room that was used extensively by our group - perfect for a group dinner and sitting around to chat.
The kitchen is well stocked - we brought some extra pan and pots not knowing if there are enough in the house. We are pleasantly surprised it has almost everything we needed.
The heating takes a bit time to warm up the house when we initially checked in, and so we lit up the fireplace with firewood found in the garage. That was a crowd pleaser - it warms up the space and the party for us.
There are only two bathrooms - one upstairs, one downstairs so it requires a bit of coordination but we managed without causing problems.
There is also a deck and BBQ - we didn't use the BBQ but imagine it can be really nice for the summer time.
Overall our group was extremely happy with the house.
This home was great for our group with children. It is in a great location near the Sunset Transit Center if you want to use the MAX, but it was also a short drive to downtown. The home is older, but is clean and well-maintained. It is well-stocked with lots of linens and dishes. (If you plan on doing much food preparation, the kitchen is stocked with just the most basic cooking supplies.)
The owner was excellent to work with. We will probably use this house again in the future.
We spent Thanksgiving at this property, with families driving from various parts and meeting in Portland and the house was just perfect. The dining table seated all 13 of us, the dinner plates and flatware was beautiful for a festive occasion, the beds and linens were sufficient and clean. The kids especially loved the bunk beds and the basement space was perfect for kids to run around.
The house is just OK. Puzzled by all the 5 star reviews as so many things were not working, out of order, or missing.
The TV in the main room would not turn on...appeared with some testing that the wall outlets must be faulty, and even if it had worked, the ESPN channels that were supposed to work weren't subscribed to, so that there were very few channels. Not a huge deal as we were there for a family reunion, not to watch TV, but we'd wanted to watch the WSU/UCLA game. We followed the score on our phones.
The coffee maker didn't work, but we were able to find a new one in the garage...apparently the owner knew about it as he'd replaced it. Why it was not in the kitchen is a mystery.
There was a dry, used rag in the main bathroom tub/shower, which also featured something that looked like mold between the tiles. Not impressive.
The bunk beds are not at all meant for adults, and as we only had one child that was that size, some of the adults "slept" in the beds. So uncomfortable, said one, that even a 90 lb child could wake up with a back ache!
There is not really a living room per se, as the adult grandchildren occupied what would have been that space, so we older adults just sat around the table, which was marginally comfortable, but a real living room would certainly have been desirable.
On the positive side, the owner, who was out of town, did respond relatively quickly to my several queries regarding the TV and lack of channels...but couldn't do much about it as it was the weekend.
My wife picked up trash that had blown in from the park on the back side of the house. She wanted the owner to know that 'cuz that's how she rolls :) The setting and the neighborhood are quiet and nice...that is the best part of the place.
Overall, for the cost, I won't say it was a great deal, but it was adequate, and we might stay again, but only if the owner assures us that the issues are fixed (excepting the living room).
We held a board meeting here with folks from many places in the USA. This home had ample sleeping accommodations, a great deck for outside conversation, and a large table for our meals and meeting area.
We were a group of women who went to college together and were having a 3 day reunion in Portland. Good sleeping options for all 8 of us and we found the large dining table was absolutely perfect for gathering, sharing pictures, and planning our activities. The location is great for easy access into downtown Portland and our reunion site in Lake Oswego. The owner, Michael, left bagels and cream cheese for all of us to enjoy. Coffee, tea, and condiments were found in the cupboards and refrigerator. The linen closet is well stocked with towels and sheets. A grocery store is close by as well as several restaurants. The home, being a favorite rental as noted on the calendar, had a couple of areas of maintenance concerns, but I'm sure these have been take care of by the owner. We are talking about getting together again next fall, and it was unanimous by all that we like to return to this quiet, well-located home.
