As frequent travelers to B&B's, we have decided to make our home a B&B that is as convenient and comforting as the ones we like to stay at ourselves. After living in Portland for 13 years, we have agreed that a BnB is the best way to experience this beautiful area.
Location - This house has the perfect location for city and country people. It is only a 15 minute drive to downtown Portland while only 5 minute drive to the highway 26, which takes you to wineries, farms, hikes and the ocean.
Amount of People - We have enough room to accommodate for 16 people. There are 5 rooms that will fit 8 adults and 4 kids and if more room is needed then there are two futons that are queen sized when reclined. The dining room has plenty of space for all the guests because of its dining table that comfortably seats 13 people.
Wifi/TV - There are 3 TVs in the house with a wide variety of channels. We also have high speed internet.
Nearby the House - The chairs, tables and barbecue grill on the 560 sq foot deck make it perfect to lounge around on while the park behind the backyard is great for a relaxing, sunny day because of its tennis courts, playground and big field
Eating - We have supplied all of the kitchenware and tableware and a few basic ingredients such as sugar, coffee and tea. If you would like, we can stock the fridge with other food like eggs, bagels and butter.
Pictures - Below are photos of the house and a detailed floorplan that includes the furniture
The house is just OK. Puzzled by all the 5 star reviews as so many things were not working, out of order, or missing.
The TV in the main room would not turn on...appeared with some testing that the wall outlets must be faulty, and even if it had worked, the ESPN channels that were supposed to work weren't subscribed to, so that there were very few channels. Not a huge deal as we were there for a family reunion, not to watch TV, but we'd wanted to watch the WSU/UCLA game. We followed the score on our phones.
The coffee maker didn't work, but we were able to find a new one in the garage...apparently the owner knew about it as he'd replaced it. Why it was not in the kitchen is a mystery.
There was a dry, used rag in the main bathroom tub/shower, which also featured something that looked like mold between the tiles. Not impressive.
The bunk beds are not at all meant for adults, and as we only had one child that was that size, some of the adults "slept" in the beds. So uncomfortable, said one, that even a 90 lb child could wake up with a back ache!
There is not really a living room per se, as the adult grandchildren occupied what would have been that space, so we older adults just sat around the table, which was marginally comfortable, but a real living room would certainly have been desirable.
On the positive side, the owner, who was out of town, did respond relatively quickly to my several queries regarding the TV and lack of channels...but couldn't do much about it as it was the weekend.
My wife picked up trash that had blown in from the park on the back side of the house. She wanted the owner to know that 'cuz that's how she rolls :) The setting and the neighborhood are quiet and nice...that is the best part of the place.
Overall, for the cost, I won't say it was a great deal, but it was adequate, and we might stay again, but only if the owner assures us that the issues are fixed (excepting the living room).
We held a board meeting here with folks from many places in the USA. This home had ample sleeping accommodations, a great deck for outside conversation, and a large table for our meals and meeting area.
We were a group of women who went to college together and were having a 3 day reunion in Portland. Good sleeping options for all 8 of us and we found the large dining table was absolutely perfect for gathering, sharing pictures, and planning our activities. The location is great for easy access into downtown Portland and our reunion site in Lake Oswego. The owner, Michael, left bagels and cream cheese for all of us to enjoy. Coffee, tea, and condiments were found in the cupboards and refrigerator. The linen closet is well stocked with towels and sheets. A grocery store is close by as well as several restaurants. The home, being a favorite rental as noted on the calendar, had a couple of areas of maintenance concerns, but I'm sure these have been take care of by the owner. We are talking about getting together again next fall, and it was unanimous by all that we like to return to this quiet, well-located home.
The place provided enough places for our large group to sleep comfortably yet the area on the main floor has been made into a dining room rather than comfortable chairs and couches. We wanted to watch the Olympic opening ceremonies but it was nearly impossible to do so with the way the tv was in the cabinet making it difficult to see. Additional channels in the cable package would have been beneficial too. The teenagers hung out downstairs on the couches but that was not a comfortable place for us because of the steep stairs and my elderly mother wasn't able to walk on them. One word of advice too is to put some non slip sticky material in the tub because it was very dangerous for an elderly (or child) person to bathe/shower in it. We loved the peaceful park setting and the pretty window view but it would have been enjoyed more if there had been an actual living room set up instead of the dining room table.
The space was great for our large group of people. Everyone had their own bed, and the three bathrooms was wonderful. The deck was so pleasant to sit on and the park out the back was great! Would definately stay there again!
The house was in a great location within easy access of downtown, the zoo, rose garden, Japanese garden and the freeway for those day trips to the falls, beach and Mt. Hood. We housed 3 separate families with children. There was plenty of room for everyone and the kids loved the park and creek behind the house. The adults loved the deck...however we wish there had been more seating so everyone could have enjoyed it at the same time. The dining table was great for family meals. The only draw back was that there was no couch upstairs. But I don't even know where you could put one. The beds were comfy and clean. There really needs to be more places to hang towels after using. Overall the house met our needs and the neighbors were friendly. Michael left bagels and cream cheese for us and that was a nice touch. We also loved the keyless entry system. So much more convenient than keys. Easy check in and check out and payment system. Too bad we didn't find the maps and guide books and pamphlets until we were ready to leave! We would stay there again!
