Very nice getaway

  • 5 of 5

Each year my family and close friends try to get together for a mini getaway to reunite, share stories and have fun. Huckleberry Acres offered a nice place to make this happen. The house is large enough that when we experienced rain on the 2nd night of our stay guests relaxed in the living room and watched some TV while others spent time in the kitchen area enjoying conversation. During the rest of our stay we had plenty of space outside for people to sit by the fire pit while others sat on the patio. The hot tub was a welcome feature as well. The area is very scenic and quiet and gives you the immediate sense as soon as you step out of your car on arrival that you have been transported away form the fast paces of everyday life. In the evening on the right conditions the star filled sky is magnificent. This was exactly what we were looking for. I can only imagine how gorgeous it is to be there in the fall. The house is decorated with a nice touch, it is very clean & beds were comfy.

Important to note, the owners Ken & Shelly, are very quick to respond to any questions or concerns and made the whole process of using VRBO for the first time a pleasant one.

Great house, great location near to my family, great owners!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay and had plenty of room for 6 adults and 2 dogs. My only disappointment was that the outdoor kennel/dog run appeared to simply be a kennel on the far side of the yard from the house with 3 or 4 separate pens. Not a big deal, but my dog loves running more than anything else and I did not see an ability for him to do that in the enclosure. Again, not a big deal, and I definitely plan to stay here again. Thanks to the Kleists, they were very accommodating and understanding to our needs, and the house is beautiful.

Winter fun & family time

  • 4 of 5

We were looking for a cabin or house where two families with three kids (10, 14 and 16) and three dogs would be comfortable spending a week together. Huckleberry Acres was the right place for us. The house is spacious - the website description and photos give a good idea of the property. We also enjoyed the hot tub and fire pit. As a bonus, on three days there was just enough snow for us to go sledding right on the front yard's slope. That worked out perfect! Watkins Glen, grocery store and restaurants are conveniently close. We made day trips to Ithaca (about 35 minutes one way) and Corning's Class Museum (about an hour one way). Owners were friendly and responsive throughout the booking, stay and feedback process. :)

No area of the yard is fenced. The dog run mentioned in the description consists of four adjacent, roomy but not heated "dog houses". They might work for hunting dogs but we chose not to use them for our "city dogs".

Cosy and spacious farm house

  • 5 of 5

The farmhouse is a beautiful property, and it makes for a great weekend away in upstate New York. The house is very spacious and beautifully decorated. Moreover, it's only a short drive to the gorgeous Watkins Glenn - a great place to take in the beauty of autumn and do some hiking. The owners were quick to respond and they were incredibly accommodating and helpful. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a peaceful stay that's only a stone's throw away from beautiful parks and the city of Ithaca.

the owners of this home have well maintained it, it was clean, the dacor was all from the era.

  • 5 of 5

When we entered the home it was a nice feeling of a home not a house. With the vintage decorations , all appliances working and a hot tub you were permitted to use. The owners are very nice people also. I am rating them too. 6 star

Property literally smells from sulfur well water. Owner obnoxious & cheats.

  • 1 of 5

We have stayed in over 30 properties in the past four years and nothing prepared us for this. Initial impression okay, but fans in sleeping rooms hinted at what lay ahead. Second floor finished in dark knotty pine with low ceilings and limited windows. Many of the rooms are nothing more than oversized closets. No a/c, fans could not move enough air to allow comfortable sleeping. Beds are lumpy. And the SMELL!! Sulfured well water, odor drove one couple out, and the water made another guest ill. We had to leave one guest at the house last day because she was too ill (from the water) to go to the race track. When my son (her husband) went back to pick her up he called the owner because he had forgotten the key code. The owner went berserk, as he was 4 hours past check-out time. Then same owner accused us of stealing a $10 vase.

Can't imagine how this property ever received positive reviews. VRBO needs to discipline this owner.

Owner's Response: This is from our communication with Lester. Lester, We are disappointed that you chose to attack us and our business personally. You never hinted at having a bad stay or that there were any issues during your stay, nor did your son during any of our conversations. No one voiced any concerns or issues other than it was a great stay. Your son and his wife chose to stay four hours after check-out. A quick phone call or email prior to this action could have easily solved this. We felt taken advantage of and as if you were stealing from us by staying 4 hours after checkout. As for the vase, we never accused you of stealing it. We reached out and asked you if you knew where your son left it. We'd love to have located it, as it was part of the home decor (he removed flowers out of it)...not an extra one laying around. Regarding the sulfur smell and water - Schuyler County was under a state of emergency drought. This effects our natural spring. Our Welcome Packet does talk about our home having a natural spring and that we do not add chemicals to our water. If everyone was so sick and had to leave because of the water, why did your son's wife stay 4 hours instead of going to the track with him. Our understanding from the beginning is that the couples would be only staying for a few days and everyone was going to be in and out due to the racing schedule, not our water. Would you consider removing your review? Ken and Shelly ...Lester's response "I don't want to do lasting damage so advise me how to remove it." We followed up with... Lester, Thank you. We really appreciate. The drought conditions which caused the sulphur issues had just occurred or had been declared in Schuyler County. We weren't completely aware of the conditions until after you left. We've been making guests aware of it since. We are sorry that it happened and any inconvenience it caused. In order to remove a review you can call VRBO at 877-228-3145 or email them through VRBO.com. You will need our ID #XXXXX Thank you, Ken and Shelly
