About Cheryl Santos

My husband Jim and I moved to Cayuga Lake in 2002 - he from Pine City NY and me from Hawaii. We both are naturally drawn to water, so Cayuga Lake was our chosen place. My husband has 3 grown children and he retired in 2012. Now our children are of the four-legged sort (we have friendly tale-wagging dogs and we invite you to bring your dogs along). We live directly across the street from the cabin and we are always available if you need anything. We take great pride in providing a clean, comfortable vacation property, and it is important to us that you have a wonderful vacation experience. We want to ensure that you’ll make memories here that will stay with you for a lifetime.

Why Cheryl Santos chose Seneca Lake

We chose Cayuga Lake for its natural beauty, the variety of things to see and do in close proximity, yet also the tranquility of country living. We envisioned building a cabin here so we could share this unique area with others, providing a comfortable retreat for our guests. We designed and built the cabin as a contemporary modern space yet with rustic charm.

What makes this cabin unique

Situated in a sunny field adjoining the woods, this log cabin is a tranquil retreat. It is very spacious for 2 – 6 people with an open floor plan, cathedral ceilings, and 2 private bedrooms. It is impeccably clean and is well equipped with most necessary items. A walking trail across the street gives you access to Cayuga Lake. The cabin is centrally located on the Cayuga Wine Trail. Nearby are hiking trails, biking paths, and quaint shops. The cabin rental costs less per person than many hotels, plus you have your own private space. The radiant floor heating warms the cabin to a cozy temperature on cool nights. It is also air conditioned for your comfort in summer months.

Cozy and quaint cabin

We enjoyed our stay at the cute cabin. Perfect for 2 couples and the owners were very welcoming. We loved that we could bring our other couples dog as he enjoyed the cabin too. It's very close to all the wineries and lake and had all the accomodations we needed. Highly reccomended.

Lovely cabin perfectly located to explore Wine trails and Finger Lakes Beauty

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I usually plan a fall mini vacation around our anniversary, which is in the fall. We both love the outdoors, hiking, biking, kayaking but also love interesting cities, good wine and good food. This cabin's surroundings and central location was perfect. The cabin lived up to it's description of being rustic yet modern. Fully equipped, clean and tidy, beautifully appointed furniture and some nice touches including board games, some books about the area and a nice selection of movies for a quiet evening. Although it was just the two of use it would comfortably accommodate another couple and with pull out couch maybe 6 people. The fire pit was awesome and we joined our neighbours on our last night for wine and nice conversation. We had not planned to do any cooking as our focus was to tour wine country, eating at interesting places, visit some state parks, and go mountain biking. However you certainly could have had all your meals there and there are grocery stores in close proximity that would allow you to do that. In the local area around Cayuga Lake, we toured several wineries/vineyards, a goat farm that produced amazing cheeses, had a lovely breakfast at Busy Bee Market, and visited and did some biking in Taughannock Park ( the falls there are amazing). The fall colours were at their peak and the scenery in the area is breath taking. You are in close proximity as well to Seneca Lake so we did visit that area and had lunch in Geneva at a nicely appointed pub called Stone Cutters at Belhurst Castle. That was worth the 35 minute drive and we ended up driving all around the lake. If you are a mountain bike enthusiast a visit to Shindagin Hollow State forest is really a must do. Fabulous trails. About an hour from the cabin, south of Ithaca. The bonus here is that Ithaca is a lovely city, with a lot of restaurants and the drive is also breath taking. We must admit we did not spend that much time at the cabin nor did we really take advantage of lake but if you wanted to place to just relax and chill, it was pretty perfect. Thank you Cheryl and Jim for a memorable experience.

Very nice location with a view

  • 4 of 5

We had a nice time and enjoyed our stay there. Location was within travel distance to wineries, along with a view of the lake. The owners made sure all of our requests were made - which was a surprise for the birthday girls.

I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a nice getaway and not that far of a drive from our location in PA

Owner's Response: Hello Tammy - thank you so much for this beautiful review and the recommendation. I was so happy to be able to help make the birthday celebration happen. You were all very lovely and fun-loving guests and we would really like to have you return to stay again in the future. I am also glad that it worked out that your sister could bring her adorable dog. And thank you for sharing your experience about riding your car at the Watkins Glen speedway - that is something I will be sure to let other guests know about. Cheers, Cheryl

Nice Cabin, very hard hike to water

  • 3 of 5

The cabin was very nice, roomy, and clean. The kitchen was stocked very well. Cheryl and Jim were very friendly. On the downside, the lake was very difficult to get to (even for me and I am a runner and avid hiker) as it was down a very steep and long hill along. Also, we felt that Jim and Cheryl were a bit too intruding- they live across the street and can see the cabins/fire pit from their house. They have quiet hours after 10pm, but one night we were by the fire pit around 9:15 and were told to lower our music (I personally didn't think it was loud at all -we also asked the guests in the other cabin if they were okay with our music and they were). One other small complaint was that if we were to use the grill we had to cover it with foil first in order to keep it clean...wasn't thrilled about grilling my steak on foil).

The finger lakes are gorgeous. Be sure to hike Watkins Glen and Robert Truman State Park if you go!

perfect peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a beautiful stay at Cheryl & Jim's cabin & can't wait to go back!

The cabin was beautifully appointed and had everything we needed for a relaxing weekend in the Finger Lakes. We appreciated that the kitchen was stocked with all of the essential tools/plates/cups so that we were able to utilize the charcoal BBQ and have a relaxing evening at the cabin. Everything was clean & well-maintained.

The location was great & we got to hit all of the local spots - Finger Lakes Cider House, Boathouse Brewery, Myer Farm Distillery, and the wineries! - within a 5-10 minute drive.
