An ocean and mountain view ohana located near beaches, snorkeling and hiking

E Komo Mai to Kohala Loke Lani, a vacation rental on the Kohala Coast of the beautiful Big Island of Hawaii. The Big Island's North Kohala region is a travelers' delight. Off the beaten path, it makes the area one of Hawaii's best-kept secrets. Come and enjoy it for yourself!

An expansive ocean and mountain view cottage located near prime beaches, snorkeling, restaurants, whale watching and hiking. You can see three mountains from the property, plus sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean. This is a large, soothing, intentionally renovated studio ohana that comfortably sleeps two. There are big ocean and mountain views. In the winter months you may even see whales from the lanai! The dark skies make the stargazing sublime.

The unit comfortably sleeps two people in the queen size bed. There is a full bathroom with shower. This ohana has a large private lanai with bbq and outside dining. Big expansive ocean and mountain views of Mauna Loa and Hualalai. Mauna Kea is also visible from the property.

If you get tired of going to the beautiful nearby beaches, swimming in the crystal clear ocean, snorkeling, hiking, zip-lining, or exploring the island, the ohana has wireless internet, Direct TV, and a Netflix account. There are also bluetooth speakers to listen to music.

While the space is most comfortable, and priced, for two people, we can supply you with an Aerobed air mattress if you'd like to have your child/children travel with you. We also have a Pack n Play for very young children.

We live on the property and will leave you alone as much as possible, other than to say hello and answer your questions, but if you need anything we'll be available. If you would like to interact more, we are always happy to visit, answer questions, or have drinks!

On the premises there is a friendly standard poodle, two African grey parrots, five dwarf goats, five ducks and sixteen chickens (no roosters). There is also a donkey that comes to visit several days a week. There can be some animal noises on the property, sporadically, throughout the day.

All people are welcome at Kohala Loke Lani. All 'diversities' are welcome and encouraged.

A trip of a lifetime

We so enjoyed our stay on the big island. The accommodations exceeded our expectations. If you are looking for a quiet, comfortable, well furnished bungalow with a wonderful ocean and mountain view then this is the place. The owners were a joy! They were most accommodating and insightful with many great suggestions for places to visit. All beach and snorkel gear is provided with superb beaches near by. The location is terrific. We can't wait to come back!

Amazing!!!

Our stay at Kohala Estates Property ID 762965 was nothing short of fantastic, a very special and unique get-away. The Ohana comes equipped with lots of conveniences you would not expect. I especially appreciated the beach towels, boogie boards, beach chairs, cooler, large insulated bag and snorkeling gear. The interior was bright and airy with great AC and modern finishes. My twenty something daughter had her own private studio on the property with a full bathroom equipped with a good size mini refrig, dishes, cups, and utensils. The location made us feel like locals. Nestled in a quiet neighborhood, on a hill stood Kohala Estates with gorgeous views of the expansive ocean and no obstructions to view the many bright stars at night. The property had beautiful plants and behind the owner's house enclosed in the backyard were goats, chickens, and a visiting donkey. The weather in this area is the best on the Island. When other parts of the Island are cloudy and raining, there it is sunny, warm and dry. Lots of lovely beaches nearby. No crowds, no noise, no traffic. The location makes it easy to do day trips to Kona and Hilo, stopping along the way to see many beautiful sights. The grocery stores are 25 minutes away in Waimea. Pamela, the owner could not have been more friendly, welcoming and helpful. We will most definitely return to Pamela's Ohana the next time we are staying on the Big Island.

Peace, quiet, great views, exceptional hosts

Our 4 previous visits were in condos and B&Bs, never hotels. We had never stayed in North Kohola before and wanted to experience a less crowded part of the island away from the VOG spewing from the volcano. The prevailing winds blow from east to west over the central part of the island (Kona), 50 miles to the south. North Kohola is clear and dry. Pam's ohana is a spacious 1 room studio apartment in a stand alone building next to her house located 1.5 miles uphill from the coast highway. It is only a few minutes from the beautiful beaches to the south (access to all the big hotel and state park beaches is less than 20 minutes) and only 18 miles from Hawi on the northernmost tip of the island. It is also convenient to the road that crosses the island to the east through Waimea (Parker Ranch area) to Hilo. The finishes and furnishings are comfortable and up to date. The kitchen was fully equipped with the exception of a dishwasher. The stove is 2 burners electric. The pantry and refrigerator were very well stocked with items left by previous guests like sugar, rice, spices, soy sauce, etc. The lani just outside the kitchen door is where we ate all our meals (table that seats 6). The gas grill was perfect for steaks and fish. Stop at Costco in Kona before you drive out here. There are no grocery stores nearby. While A/C is available, we chose to open all the windows and use the 3 ceiling fans during our visit. Consider this to be like a farm stay, out in the country. Pam provided us with eggs from her chickens and we enjoyed watching her goats and the resident donkey that she feeds. Evenings were quiet and star studded but be prepared to be awakened by the squawking of wild francolins, small partridge like birds that abound in the area. There is a big locker out front with beach chairs, snorkel gear, and coolers. Pam is incredibly helpful about what to see and were to go. We were already familiar with the island and did not need much help but she was still very informative about island politics, history and current events. We did not use the big screen TV very much but it had Direct TV Service and Netflix as well as a surround sound system. Wireless internet was very fast compared to most places we have stayed, almost as good as our Xfinity service at home. If you are looking for all the amenities of a big resort, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a great location and a peaceful comfortable setting for 2 people. you will love it

Delightful!

We had a really lovely stay. Pam and John were wonderful hosts. The view is amazing and only a quick drive to beautiful beaches. If you’re worried about vog, Kohala is not at all impacted by the eruption. The air is fresh and clear.

Overall great experience at Kohala Estates

This is THE place. Beautiful views with fully stocked kitchen, beach equipment, and great hosts (Pamela and John).

The property is ideally located 1 mile off the main highway so very tranquil, with lots and lots of birds and a visit from a wild donkey named Geronimo.

We were greeted with genuine warmth and kindness from Pamela and John, and they provided us with farm fresh eggs from their hens. Wow and the eggs were so delicious!!! You will also find chickens, ducks, goats and dogs (without any barking). This was truly paradise in Hawaii.

We are definitely staying here on our next visit and hope to see everyone and everything here later this year.
