The farmhouse was beautiful, comfortable and enjoyable for all seven of us (including a 15 month old baby). The area is spectacularly beautiful. We hiked when it wasn't raining and played board games when the rain came. The dinning room and kitchen tables only sat 4 each and we had to combine them in the dinning room to seat us all for Thanksgiving dinner. Thank you Susan and Jim for the use of your home and making this Thanksgiving a cherished memory.
A group of 5 adults spent a week at this home in Brooksville. It is an updated farmhouse and served us well. I'm only giving it 3 stars because we had no water on two occasions. The owners did respond to our questions and a new water pump was actually delivered while we were there. So hopefully no water issues for future renters! The living room furniture could be updated as well. The weekly rental for this property is a bargain and the fact that the owners allow dogs is a big plus! We love the outdoors and did some hiking nearby at Holbrook Island Sanctuary and Barred Island Reserve. The house is about an hour drive from Acadia. The foliage at this time of year is absolutely gorgeous!!! I would consider renting this home again.
Susan & Jim have done a wonderful job of updating this place. You come up to an older house, and you're surprised at how nice it is when you walk through the door.
We needed a little help with something the day we arrived, and Susan & Jim were prompt in responding and walking us through the steps we needed to take.
My family quite enjoyed the spacious yard, the frequent sound of wind chimes, and a kitchen setup wonderfully for fixing our meals.
The house is old of course, which took time getting used to. However I did enjoy the house very much. I would suggest that they install curtains. I know the house is surrounded by woods, but being able to close curtains adds a bit of security. My wife didn't like the basement, didn't bother me, but she didn't like the dirt floor. Also, suggest getting antenna so local TV broadcast could be seen for weather forecast and current events. Overall, I really liked the place and would recommend it.
When my family and I arrived at the house in Brooksville Maine, we fell in love immediately. The house is very spacious and clean, yet very cozy and inviting. The location is beautiful, far enough away from civilization, yet not so far, Blue Hill is about a nine mile ride, 15 minutes or so. We spent a day on Mount Desert Island which is about an hour away, not a bad ride at all. Jim and Susan were very responsive when needed and great hosts. The house is stocked with everything you would ever need. No need to bring anything but yourselves, some clothes and some food. We felt very relaxed after our vacation and would recommend this house to anyone that asks. Thank you Jim and Susan!
This a beautifully renovated house with a lot of room. The kitchen is great for cooking with a gas stove and an industrial sink and a dishwasher. All appliances worked great. The room with the fireplace, where we spent most of our time in the evening, is very cozy and comfortable. There are a few neighbors but not in close proximity. There's a lot of land with overgrowth and trees between the houses so it's secluded and private. The rear of the house faces the water for a wonderful view. The town of Blue Hill is only a 10 minute drive. In Blue Hill there is an excellent market and cafe for organic produce, The Blue Hill Co-op. A must if you eat healthy. There's also a nice conventional grocery, Trade Winds, that will have everything you need. For lobsters we found Jones Lobster Company on Deer Isle, about a 20 minute drive but very scenic. We cooked at the house every night but there are plenty of restaurants close by for your basic dishes to fine dining. Jim and Susan were very easy to work with. They were extremely accommodating to our needs, beyond what would be expected. We came up from NYC for a Thanksgiving getaway in Maine and the owners and the house met all our needs. We're looking forward to coming back in the summer.
