Quiet and Comfortable
This was a wonderful place to stay! The location is quiet and a short walk to beautiful hiking trails and the town of Monschau. I really enjoyed sitting on the balcony and relaxing.
The apartment was clean and contained everything we needed, although it could use a bit more lighting in the living room. Many of the lightbulbs were burnt out in the living room and bathrooms. The king size beds were comfortable but my daughter thought the double bed was very hard. The wifi can sometimes be a problem especially if too far away from the router.
The gracious landlady, Helene, greeted us with waffles topped with cherries, whipped cream and slivered almonds. This was a wonderful treat especially after a long trip from the USA. The hosts english was enough to be able to communicate with her our basic needs. We did have a son that speaks some german, but he didn't need to translate too much.
The apartment was close enough to visit Belgium, Netherlands, and of course Germany. The area is very beautiful and the views are incredible.
There is an above ground pool which we were able to use. They have lots of other equipment such as games, puzzles, ping pong, bikes, etc to entertain you.
We throughly enjoyed our stay!
Thanks for your nice message and kind words. We are happy that you liked our place and would be more than happy to welcome you and your Kids again!lots of greetings and alle the best
A home from home
This is a fabulous place for those who like a quiet village location but also like to be close to a main tourist centre. Monschau is wonderful to visit but the peace and quiet and beauty of Muetzenich is food for the soul.
The apartment has great character and is in charming rural surroundings. I adored the views of trees, plants and countryside from the lounge/diner, kitchen and upstairs bedroom, bathroom and landing windows. Even the surrounding homes and gardens were lovely to look at. The garden is quite extensive and would be a lovely place to spend some time.
The owners, who live next door, are charming. You may however encounter difficulties if you are relying on their command of English as your sole means of communication with them. I have a reasonable command of intermediate level German, and with the occasional aid of a dictionary, I experienced no difficulties. I thoroughly enjoyed conversing in German (and occasionally English) with our delightful hosts, who are extremely keen to ensure that their guests have a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
One further word of warning - if you have back problems, the mattresses may not suit you. We slept in the two king-size beds. My female friend and I experienced no problems but our husbands were sometimes in considerable discomfort as a result. If you need a firm mattress which gives good support, I would advise you to check suitability before booking. I have no idea about the state of the mattress in the double room.
Other comfort-related advice: If you don't like German pillows, ask the lady for British-style ones. Only one pillow per person was provided but she supplied others on request. If you like or need good back support on a sofa, you may need to request extra cushions, depending on how many of you are staying.
Location-wise, it's just a short walk to the edge of the Hohes Venn or the bus stop or the village shops. For walkers and nature lovers, it's paradise. Those who love historic buildings of character will be like kids in a sweet shop! There is adequate adjacent off-road parking but it soon fills up if all 3 of the flats are occupied. I expect the owners would allow guests to use their own front yard if necessary.
Favourite excursions: Monschau; the peace and quiet of Einruhr and the trip to the Urftseestaumauer on the delightful little ferry boats; the cafe and walks by the Eupenerseestaumauer; Bad Muenstereifel; Heimbach; the National Park; the Grandes Fagnes. Spoilt 4 choice!!
wow- we just saw your great description of our accommodation and we love to read your lines. we are totally happy about it and have taken up the hint of the mattresses. In the meantime, of course, our holiday homes have been modernised. Take a look at the various objects and get an impression for yourself. Maybe you would like to go to "Oma's Stübchen" or to the Ferienhaus. In all our properties you can use our extensive garden. It is such nice weather here - it is also worth jumping into our pool! We would be very happy to welcome you again.
Greetings from the beautiful Eifel
