This 1848 Captain's house, located in the much sought-after William Street Historic District, was completely restored and updated in 2014 by a California interior designer. With four working fireplaces it is cozy in the fall and winter, just steps from the bustling New England town of Vineyard Haven and the ferry boat. For a summer rental it is bright & airy, with A/C, an outside shower, and sun!
I am the manager of this property and live 2 blocks away from this lovely home. I look forward to meeting you and showing you around this great house!
Debby Ware purchased this cottage in 2012
What a nice visit we had at this beautiful cottage in Vineyard Haven! We are MV regulars and this home is a true stand out! The location is ideal, a perfectly quite side street that’s just a short walk to downtown Vineyard Haven cafes and shops.
However, the restoration and interior design of this home truly deserves special mention. It’s really exceptional. From the furnishings down to the smallest detail, it’s clear every item and fixture in and around the home was well thought out. They’ve done an outstanding job of honoring and maintaining the historic features that make the house so special, while fitting each room for the needs and tastes of a 21st-century experience. The pictures are great, but it’s even more impressive in person. It’s colorful and bright, but cozy with natural light. All of the trim and moldings, as well as the antique floors really add to the character of this cottage.
Lastly, Debby was incredibly helpful and friendly and made you feel she was always available during your stay should you need anything at all!
We had a wonderful stay in Tisbury, one block off the main street in this lovely home with several working fireplaces to boot. Debby made us very welcome and was only a few blocks away if we needed anything. It had a great flat screen tv, nice working sunny kitchen, and several areas to lounge comfortably in soft chairs and couches. Master bath shower was especially nice. We would definitely return in future and loved the town too.
We just stayed here recently, over labor day. The house is a very short walk from the Vineyard Haven ferry and just off Main Street. What a great location. We were very pleased with the size of the first floor. Lots of space, very clean, nice kitchen, a very cape/island feel, but clean and well maintained. The bedrooms are all upstairs. you need to watch your head as you go up the stairs, once up there, there is a master bedroom with a queen bed and a bathroom inside. The roof is angled, so you can't really use the tub in there as a shower, but it does have an attachment. The one full bath was nice and had a good shower. The other 2 bedrooms had 2 twin beds each. Some of the mattresses were a bit older and some were better. There is also a half bath on the 1st floor which was nice. There is an outdoor shower, but you need shower shoes or sandals to use it comfortably. Overall we were very pleased and the house was a bit better than expected. There was a great lunch/breakfast place just a block up main street to the left and a wonderful coffee shop 2 blocks to the right down main. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
We had a glorious weather week! To top it off we had a glorious home in which to stayl! Our visit to 28 Church Street exceeded our expectations, the home was cozy, comfortable, very clean, and accommodated all our needs! The information on VRBO was completely accurate in description and visual content! We will keep this property on our A+ listing for next year!
We stayed with 5 small children and found it the perfect size. Really close to the shops, restaurants and the town beach. Property had great upkeep, modern appliances to go with an authentically historical look and feel. Small, stone patio is perfect for outside meals on those great Vinyard summer days. Outdoor shower worked well for after one of the many island beaches. We look forward to staying again!
What a WONDERFUL stay we had at this charming cottage in Vineyard Haven! The cottage is immaculate and is even lovelier than it looks in the pictures. It is tucked away on a quiet street but you are just a short walk to the charming boutiques and cafes in town. I have stayed in many VRBOs and this is hands down the finest experience yet. It did not feel at all like a rental, it was like we were staying in the summer home of a wealthy friend who has impeccable taste in interior design. All the small touches and details added up to a truly comfortable and memorable stay. Debby was right there to meet us when we arrived, and was so friendly and helpful in answering our questions and sharing her insider's knowledge of the island. This was our first visit to Martha's and Vineyard Haven was a perfect home base. There is a bike rental in town and we had a terrific afternoon riding along the shoreline and out to the Alpaca Farm. The bus line is a 5 minute walk from the cottage and it's very to easy to hop on and visit the other towns. All in all, it was a fabulous vacation and we will definitely be returning to the cozy cottage on Church Street!
