It’s shabby chic meets high tech and it’s all in the details! Elegant, light and airy and just darn adorable best describes The Urban Cottage. Be the first guests to experience the luxury!

The Urban Cottage at The Bryant House is a newly restored 950 square foot Historic cottage just blocks away from the inter coastal waterway. It was built in 1939 for Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bryant. As owners of McKown's Market, the Bryants worked downtown and raised their family in this quaint cottage. Lovingly restored, the sensitive and sustainable renovation has maintained a cottage feel with all the modern conveniences in a fantastic downtown location.

The majestic hand carved Mahogany 4 Post king-sized bed along with high quality bedding and down comforters creates a romantic, elegant Master Bedroom that is spacious and inviting. The Living Room has views of 50 year old azalea bushes planted by Mrs. Bryant in the front garden. A leather sectional couch provides a comfortable resting area for guests. The open floor plan allows viewing of the 40” LED Smart TV from the Kitchen, Living and Dining Rooms. The sparkling new eat in gourmet Kitchen overlooks the private back yard and has all the amenities including brand new appliances with washer and dryer. A modern spa inspired Bath Room has tile, marble, inlaid pebble stone and a walk in shower with fresh fluffy towels provided. The bright and sunny Dining Room has windows on 3 walls, French doors and a dining table that seats 6 with a picturesque view that lets you enjoy Florida's natural beauty while you dine.

A lush tropical yard with mango, avocado and loquat trees, sweet smelling jasmine and frangipani surround a fire pit to warm up to or lounge about for sunbathing and enjoying the beautiful Florida climate. The patio is equiped for grilling, an herb garden and outdoor dining for four in the shade of an umbrella.

About Jonathan and Alene Pettus

My wife Alene is an artist and I'm a General Contactor please view our website http://www.aprfl.com. When we renovated The Urban Cottage in the summer of 2015, our goal was to tear it apart and put it back together again creating a fresh, updated, romantic get away for our future guests. We've stayed at some of the finest hotels and wanted to create a luxury suite in sunny Sarasota, our home for 25 years. Sarasota has beaches voted the whitest sand (Siesta Beach) theatres, museums, fine dining, shopping and an abundance of Florida natural beauty. We love traveling around the country and Europe but theres no place like home and we hope we have created a home away from home for you.

Jonathan and Alene Pettus purchased this cottage in 2004

A Hidden Oasis

  • 5 of 5

The Urban Cottage is a quaint, stylish, immaculately-cleaned retreat in the heart of Sarasota. Conveniently located just a couple blocks away from all the sights and sounds you want to see: the historic district, downtown, beaches, parks, and shops.

There is not a detail left unnoticed within the cottage. It is like staying in an HGTV show! Fresh flowers, a welcome basket of goodies, condiments in the refrigerator, massive carved bed and even the lighting inside and out. The backyard is a private, secluded respite of flora and fauna.

The entire property is a true "Hidden Oasis" for your rest, enjoyment, and relaxation!

We. enjoyed. every. single. moment. here.

A lovely return visit

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at this lovely urban cottage three times. That itself is a compliment, and our main complaint about this visit was that it was too short. We love the cottage, its location and its garden where we can sit or eat. Jon and Alene are the most gracious and helpful hosts we know. We look forward to seeing them again.

The Urban Cottage is delightful

  • 5 of 5

This is the perfect place for a couple to stay while exploring Sarasota. It is close to downtown Sarasota; in fact it is possible to walk to downtown restaurants, the farmers market and the Sarasota Orchestra's Hall. It is a short drive to the Ringling Museum, the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens and Siesta Beach and Lido Park.

The cottage is nicely furnished: the large bedroom has a fabulous carved bed and lovely wooden dressers; the kitchen is well equipped for home cooking and there is a conveniently located outdoor gas grill. The back yard has a fire pit surrounded with comfortable lounge chairs. It also has a visiting rabbit and racoon. A gift basket of snacks and food awaited our arrival along with a bowl of fruit and a large bouquet of flowers. Internet service was fine; there are two television sets, one provides cable channels and the other plays DVDs and perhaps some subscription services (which we were not able to figure out). The bathroom has a large glass enclosed shower; there is plenty of hot water and a stacked washer/dryer. We enjoyed our stay and would gladly return in the future.

Charming, comfortable and well equipped cottage

  • 5 of 5

Spent a week in this adorable cottage which is close to everything. It was so charming and comfortable and the owners have provided everything you need for a totally enjoyable stay (even a gourmet goodie basket for our late arrival). From the beautiful decor, the well-equipped kitchen with washer/dryer, the fire pit in the backyard, the grill for a bbq and even an assortment of subscription entertainment choices for just hanging out you will not be disappointed in the Urban Cottage, we loved it!

Charming and well appointed home!

  • 5 of 5

Great property close to downtown. Beautifully renovated, great attention to detail and lives much larger than the square footage would suggest. Love the Urban Cottage!

Charming and Sophisticated Cottage...

  • 5 of 5

We recently enjoyed a week at this lovely home in Sarasota. The decor is beachy in a very sophisticated sense and exactly as described, a "chic urban cottage". We loved the white and turquoise colors with artistic accents. Everything is spotlessly clean, updated and of high quality. The kitchen is very well equipped for all your needs. The bed is impressive in appearance and comfortable allowing for a good night sleep. Battery operated candles are on timers which automatically light in the evening creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The weather was cool in the evenings so we did not get to use the outside fire pit or charming garden but we did enjoy grilling out one night. Service is great. The owner, Jonathan, or the wonderful housekeeper readily answered our calls or texts with any questions or issues we encountered. Location of the house is less than a mile from Publix and maybe 1.5 miles from Whole Foods, convenient and very close (2 houses in) from a main artery road in Sarasota, an easy drive to the bridge which crosses over to Lido Key/ St. Armand's Circle/ beach and not far from Siesta and Long Boat Key. The neighborhood is not attractive but we felt safe and had no complaints of noise from traffic, people or pets. There is an alarm system and we were asked to keep the shades pulled down when we were not home. Our only problem was that there were no screens on the windows or doors and we prefer fresh air rather than AC. We chose this bright and beautifully appointed house not far from the beach as opposed to a condo on the beach and you should too.
