It’s shabby chic meets high tech and it’s all in the details! Elegant, light and airy and just darn adorable best describes The Urban Cottage. Be the first guests to experience the luxury!

The Urban Cottage at The Bryant House is a newly restored 950 square foot Historic cottage just blocks away from the inter coastal waterway. It was built in 1939 for Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bryant. As owners of McKown's Market, the Bryants worked downtown and raised their family in this quaint cottage. Lovingly restored, the sensitive and sustainable renovation has maintained a cottage feel with all the modern conveniences in a fantastic downtown location.

The majestic hand carved Mahogany 4 Post king-sized bed along with high quality bedding and down comforters creates a romantic, elegant Master Bedroom that is spacious and inviting. The Living Room has views of 50 year old azalea bushes planted by Mrs. Bryant in the front garden. A leather sectional couch provides a comfortable resting area for guests. The open floor plan allows viewing of the 40” LED Smart TV from the Kitchen, Living and Dining Rooms. The sparkling new eat in gourmet Kitchen overlooks the private back yard and has all the amenities including brand new appliances with washer and dryer. A modern spa inspired Bath Room has tile, marble, inlaid pebble stone and a walk in shower with fresh fluffy towels provided. The bright and sunny Dining Room has windows on 3 walls, French doors and a dining table that seats 6 with a picturesque view that lets you enjoy Florida's natural beauty while you dine.

A lush tropical yard with mango, avocado and loquat trees, sweet smelling jasmine and frangipani surround a fire pit to warm up to or lounge about for sunbathing and enjoying the beautiful Florida climate. The patio is equiped for grilling, an herb garden and outdoor dining for four in the shade of an umbrella.

About Jonathan and Alene Pettus

My wife Alene is an artist and I'm a General Contactor please view our website http://www.aprfl.com. When we renovated The Urban Cottage in the summer of 2015, our goal was to tear it apart and put it back together again creating a fresh, updated, romantic get away for our future guests. We've stayed at some of the finest hotels and wanted to create a luxury suite in sunny Sarasota, our home for 25 years. Sarasota has beaches voted the whitest sand (Siesta Beach) theatres, museums, fine dining, shopping and an abundance of Florida natural beauty. We love traveling around the country and Europe but theres no place like home and we hope we have created a home away from home for you.

Jonathan and Alene Pettus purchased this cottage in 2004

We did not want to leave!

  • 5 of 5

When I walked into the Urban Cottage I felt that maybe it was too perfect and that I might not be able to relax for fear of messing up the décor. However I soon found that everything was so well thought out and such good quality finishes and materials had been used that I had nothing to worry about. The bed is very comfortable, the linens are top notch, all of the plumbing and fixtures work so well and the appliances are top of the line.

The back garden is a great place to relax, bbq some supper, eat, drink and we did actually entertain a couple of friends who were most impressed!

The list would be very long if I mentioned everything that we loved. But just a couple of extra touches were the well stocked pantry and fridge, the abundance of super kitchen utensils and good knives, the welcome basket and a visit from Jonathan who stopped by to make sure we were doing ok.

My only regret is that I forgot to add my comments to the visitor book. Sorry!! But my comment would simply have been: "Can't wait to come back!"

a return to a favorite place to stay in Sarasota

  • 5 of 5

We returned to Sarasota, with its theaters, restaurants and natural sights, and the lovely downtown cottage that makes all these places easily accessible. My wife and I thought the cottage was well equipped last year, and it was even better equipped this year. The garden, already a comfortable and attractive place to sit and talk or read, has been improved by better lighting and pathways. The house TV has improved for those who want to stay indoors to get all kinds of programs and even want to use their own memberships in different channels. As always, the owner was both friendly and helpful whenever we met. I recommend this cottage without reservation.

November in Sarasota

  • 5 of 5

Our holiday in Sarasota in November 2016 was memorable for great weather but also for a great rental at the Urban Cottage. We have rented through VRBO around the world for many years and this has to be not only a beautiful home but also one of the best equipped we have rented, including vinegars, oils, spices and paper products. How lovely it was on our late arrival to find the fixings for a meal in a basket on the counter. The interior was most attractive but also very functional. The exterior featured a garden with comfy loungers and proved to be one of our favourite spots for reading a book or simply relaxing. The recommendations offered to us for restaurants were never disappointing and we enjoyed some delicious food while in the city. In addition a bus stop at the end of the street provided us with easy access to the downtown and the ability to transfer to other busses that took us to interesting spots such as the Aquarium. The transit system plus Uber and a couple of friends gave us the means of living carless in Sarasota for 3 weeks. Our hosts were welcoming, interesting people. A great rental we would highly recommend.
