Charming cottage for all seasons. Minutes from Disneyland & Paris

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,076 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

Dream house & pool in the woods - your vacation home near Disneyland & Paris.

Maison de Gardien is a 19th century caretaker's house. Recently renovated, it is a spacious and cozy holiday home. Many families returned 3/4/5 times.

They came back for many reasons: your beds are made when you arrive and towels are provided (but bring extra for the pool). We take care of the cleaning at the end of your stay. The house is very comfortable; beds are of good quality! In the livings room are a large flat screen with Blue Ray and dvd's, books, games etc.

Best of all is that this is a unique, 'secret' place at a dead-end road in the woods; still near (five minutes) from Disneyland and just 30 minutes from Paris. There are red squirrels and lots of birds around the house.

The houses is set in a 2 acre garden, with lots of space, a playground with zipline, swings etc., a badminton field, a large pool with terrace etc. Email us for more details.

Things to do...: Disneyland Paris is five minutes away Paris is 25/30 minutes by car, 40 minutes by train. A car is necessary, but if you would arrive by rail or air, there are car rental companies at the airports (Charles de Gaulle and Orly) as well as at the station Chessy/Marne la Vallée (at Disneyland Paris). Eurostar, Thalys and TGV trains stop at this station.

There are numerous golf courses nearby. In the house you will find guidebooks, brochures and maps. Also walking trails in Paris or the country-side. The Champagne area is very doable in a day with tastings along the way.

There are markets in nearby villages with fresh local produce (you are in the area of the Brie cheese) but you will find almost anything that will satisfy your culinary taste!

We would be happy to advise you further!

About Mieke and Vic Van Den Brandeler

We are a Dutch couple living in France since 1992 and moved here when our children were 5, 3, and 1. The kids no longer live at home. Mieke wanted to keep chicken so Vic - with help of his sons when they were around - built a coop that resembles somewhat the Moulinsart castle from TinTin.

Maison de Gardien means Caretakers House and was part of a larger estate that the previous owners broke up and sold. There is a chateau nearby that once was the main property to which the Maison de Gardien belonged. The property was built around 1860. Mieke and Vic do most of the maintenance but the more serious constructions, plumming, roof, electricity etc. is done by professionals.

Mieke and Vic Van Den Brandeler purchased this cottage in 1998

Why Mieke and Vic Van Den Brandeler chose Seine-et-Marne

Location, Location, Location,

We bought this property for its beauty and the location; Very near DIsneyland and Paris, but still in a very green spot. Our garden is part of a small forest (100 hectares or approximately 200 Acres). The area is protected; no building permits are handed out, which is unique as this is the fastest growing part of France with mushrooming villages nearby. From this Maison de Gardien it is very easy to get to Paris or to any other site as you are near two main highways: The A4 will get you to Paris or if you drive to the east you are within one hour in Reims or Epernay; the heart of the champagne area (and yes we can guide you to some excellent small producers with bottles around 15 euros). There are many fantastic Chateaux in the area: Vaux le Vicomte, Fontainebleau Champs, Chantilly Pierrefonds and many more. Also the medieval city Provins is within a 45 minute drive.

But why leave; in the summer you have a the pool at a constant 27/28°. When it gets colder you have a fireplace. Children love the garden and the woods with the swings, a zipline, a badminton field and the red squirrels and lots of birds.

Still you will need to d some shopping; well Val d'Europe is five minutes away. A huge mall with outlet, but there is also the open air market in Lagny three times a week. Lagny is even older than Paris.... and just five minutes from the house.

What makes this cottage unique

Mieke and Vic rented many houses themselves and promised to offer their own guests better beds than they had to sleep in. Apart from the setting in this garden, the Maison de Gardien is in an excellent location to explore Paris and its environment and after a busy days in the park or city it is a peaceful homecoming. You uncork something and put something on the BBQ dip in the pool or light up your Giant TV with Blue ray (and yes many dvd's are available too). And no worries - there is wifi too. Book early as typically the school holidays fill very quickly.

Charming cottage for all seasons. Minutes from Disneyland & Paris
average rating of 4.75 based on 28 reviews

A beautiful retreat in an excellent location......

  • 5 of 5

This is the third rental we've had in France and by far the most beautiful. From the fabulous gardens and period style of the house, to the amazing location, to the woods that the kids just loved playing in, we really enjoyed our time and didn't want to leave.

A quirky but excellent layout, ten minutes from Disney, really close to Paris, close to the supermarket and a huge shopping mall (which is a bit expensive), and within driving distance of Versailles, we have nothing but good things to say about both the house and Vic and Mieke, who made us feel very welcome. House was clean, tidy, plenty of towels provided, heating and air con too.

We'd love to come back !!

Owner's Response: As with previous reviews, we are pleased again to hear these comments. The house is what you see in the pictures & what we promise in the ad, but we often hear it is better than what we advertise. As we live 'next door', we are here when you need us; for pratical advice, for directions, for something you forgot to bring... But no worries, we are not going to sit on your doorstep: We understand you are here to enjoy a great time with family or friends. And everyone seems to have a very good time. The guest books in the house (we are near volume 3 now) will explain why. But please judge for yourself! Maison de Gardien is open all year and is a great place for all seasons; Central Paris is just 25 minutes away, Disneyland less then 10 minutes. But there are plenty of other exciting places to see near us! A bientôt! Mieke & Vic

Beautiful French retreat

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed here for two weeks. The photos on here are accurate (except where are the chickens?!) - it really is this beautiful. The house itself was really comfy and quirky. The kids loved their attic room. There were lots of giggles late at night! Everything was so spacious and we loved the fact that it was all ours for two weeks. The pool was fantastic. We had fun in the forest playing hide and seek and the adventure play area was a hit with the kids too. Vic and Mieke were perfect hosts. They were happy to help and very friendly, but left us to enjoy our holiday. We would definitely recommend this place and we hope to return again one day. Thank you Vic and Mieke!

In need of a professional clean and general TLC. Very dirty on arrival, ground in dirt everywhere, damp smelling property.

Outside play area is dirty, dangerous and not maintained.

Children's bed room is located in attic, and is accessed via old corkscrew type stairs off which is a window! I was afraid a child could fall down the stairs and out the window. Or open the window and fall. Apparently no other guest have ever complained.

I did complain to the vendor about the my disappointment on arrival. The vendor did attempt to clean Kitchen at our request. But it was not to my standard... apparently burnt in dirt can't be removed!

We were told we didn't have to stay and we would receive a refund. But I felt we had no choice but to stay as it was 9pm and the 3 children were very tired.

Unfortunately I returned home early with my youngest child as I could not stay in the property. It was thick with dust, spiders webs everywhere, grime around pictures, soot in living room, ground in dirt on floor tiles, dirty doors from years of use, rotten wood in kitchen, dishes that were dusty and unclean, mouldy dust pan, pans and pots old and worn, fridge had mould spotting, and generally in need of a clean. Honestly I have never been so disappointed.

Be warned : the vendor told me that it would have been prudent for me to check if the property was suitable for asthmatics or people suffering dust allergies!!! And they would have responded NO.

On a positive note the property is ideally located for Euro Disney and the pool is a bonus.

Owner's Response: The exception that proves the rule.. On arrival –before the family had put one step into the house– we noticed a great tension between the couple. For the lady - nothing was to her taste. The husband, however, was the peacekeeper and seemed to like the house. We had worked hard to clean the house. Before they arrived, we had a family of that stayed for two weeks. There was a lot to clean, you only have a few of hours. That same family booked immediately again for next year. We had forgotten to clean the oven, but rectified that on the spot. While her husband signaled that with the oven cleaned, it was OK, the lady could not be satisfied. Emotions ran high. Despite two offers to refund her, she declined. A few weeks later, we found out that she returned home halfway the week. We had no clue, as we heard loud cheers from the garden and the pool. No; not all is perfect; we shared that there will be renovations and upgrades this fall. Some facts: • We rent out Maison de Gardien since 2002 (15 years) • Over time, we welcomed over 400 families, but also consultants, anyone in need of temporary housing etc. • We never solicited any guest to write a review, but out of the 25 who did submit a review (on this site alone), 1 scored us at a 4 out of 5, all others gave us 5/5. • We have many repeat visitors coming back 4, 5 up to nine times. • The house is air conditioned (quite unique in this area, very comfortable with temperatures often above 30/35°. Features most rentals don’t have: very large TV, Netflix, 210 x 180 Bed in master bedroom, heated pool 12 x 6 M, plenty of hardwood pool furniture etc. ). If you have asthmatic/allergic children, the responsible thing to do is to enquire with the owners if the house is dust free (impossible in the woods). We had these enquiries in the past and we have always been transparent that this house wouldn’t be their best option. As we do with all our guests, we told them to see us or give us a call if there were any (other) issues, but we did not hear. Weeks later, in her first email the lady wanted a full refund. We had offered that twice but it was declined. In her second email she asked for a ‘gesture’. We explained again that, since her husband and the other children stayed the full week, and no further issues came up, we were not willing to refund her. Again, over the years, our ratings have been amongst the highest one can find. There was clearly another problem for which we should not be the scapegoat.

Charming cottage in beautiful surroundings

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time we have stayed in the cottage and will definatly be retuning. The cottage is full of charm and set in beautiful surroundings, the pool is heated and private and The facilities such as the washing machine, dryer, large bed and plenty of large towels made for a very comfortable stay. I would recommend this cottage to anyone who was looking for something in this area and it is a big plus that Disneyland is just a 10 minute drive away. We was even lucky enough to see a couple of deers wandering around the grounds in the mornings, very graceful beautiful animals, My only complaint is that we couldn't stay longer.

How lucky to have found this little Gem ❤️

  • 5 of 5

We are so , so happy to have found this beautiful place ! In a wooded surround this charming house with its magical tower had ourselves and our children enchanted . Minutes from Disney this archetypal French home had charm to spare , everything that was needed was encorporated and it could have been a million miles from anywhere with its charming surround , idyllic grounds and fantastic pool , we simply had the most amazing family break .

Add to this our hosts Mieke and Vic who made our stay something we will never forget adds to the fact we are so grateful to have encountered this property . They were warm , informative , charming , allowed us total space . We would not have known they were there until we wanted advice or assistance and they were so , so helpful . The combination of environment and hosts has made the week my wife , myself and our three children one of the most amazing experiences of France we could have hoped for . Thankyou so much for this stunning Gite in the most wonderful of surroundings
