Spacious Two-bedroom Downstairs Apartment In Super Cool 1970 Home!

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,100 sq ft
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Great, Clean Space To Stay During Your Visit to the Portland Area!

Rent the spacious, downstairs apartment in a 1970 classic home located near park in established, quiet neighborhood right on the border between outer NE Portland and (as some call it) West Gresham. Legally speaking, the property sits in Gresham, but Portland is just a few blocks away.

Because this apartment is part of an occupied residence, guests are expected to understand and follow basic house rules about noise, occupants, etc. In turn, this space will offer you a quiet, clean place to in which you can put your feet up and rest well, after you've spent a day exploring the great(er) Portland area.

Home is approx. 4 miles to the southeast of PDX (the Portland airport) and 10 miles due East of downtown Portland, and just minutes from both I-205 and I-84 (and great access to the Gorge and Mt. Hood). The apartment has its own, separate keyed entry with a sliding glass door and outdoor patio. The efficiency kitchenette is certainly big enough for most short-term renters, and it includes a two-burner stove; modest sink; microwave oven; small refrigerator; toaster oven; and coffee pot. The space is naturally cool on hot summer days, but there's also A/C for the hottest of summer days.

Apartment has 32" smart flat screen TV, with a DVD player a good selection of videos. TV reception is via antenna and not cable or satellite, but Netflix is available to guests. The apartment has good WiFi service (owner to provide password upon request).

Only approved individuals may use/occupy the space. No pets and no smoking (truly no exceptions, whether inside or outside). Fireplace is functional, but owner strongly prefers that renters not use it. Usage will be subject to extra cleaning fees.

Generally, there is a two-night minimum and two-week maximum for each rental period, but owner reserves the right to make exceptions.

When you submit a reservation request, please advise owner your planned arrival and departure times. Owner will try to accommodate your request.

Any reservation changes permitted by owner will incur an administrative change fee and will be subject to the applicable cancellation policy.

Security deposit is generally fully refundable, unless you violate the terms/rules of your rental, there is property damage/loss or there are out-of-the-ordinary cleaning issues.

About Ellen

Owner lives part-time in the home, in the upstairs of the house. (The two halves of the house are separated by a locked set of doors.) There's a cat that lives upstairs and that sometimes visits downstairs. The apartment is regularly cleaned but, if you have cat allergies, this may not be the right place for you.

Wonderful Home

  • 5 of 5

My son and I drove from Michigan to Portland and were very tired when we arrived. Ellen was welcoming and explained all the features completely. The unit was spacious and very quiet. We slept very well and Ellen gave us several suggestions on local restaurants. She also went out of her way to make us feel comfortable. If ever back to Portland we will definately stay here again.

Friendly host and good location

  • 4 of 5

This is a charming place to stay and has a good balance of convenience but also a quiet neighborhood. We stayed here while I recovered from surgery and it was perfect because I felt like I was staying at my grandmas house. The furnishings were very reminiscent of the 70s and also comforting. I love the funky wallpaper in the bathroom! I would suggest an updated TV set and maybe a bigger fridge with freezer. But hopefully if you are in Portland there isn't too much tv watching happening. Ellen is also the perfect host, extremely welcoming and easy to talk with. She gave us plenty of space but was also easy to get in touch with. I highly recommend this place for a convenient stop away from the hustle of downtown. If we stayed here again we'd probably take advantage of the public transportation that seemed to be easy to figure out and nearby. Driving into the city for two out of towners was a little stressful but it was easy to figure out from this location. Thanks!

It had everything that we needed

  • 3 of 5

Ellen was a nice host. The house was close to the places we wanted to go and located in a quiet neighborhood. There was no washer/dryer in the apartment, Ellen did offer to wash a load for us but we ended up using a laundromat. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Quiet neighborhood, great host!

  • 5 of 5

We traveled to Portland to meet up with family and had a wonderful stay in Ellen's downstairs apartment. The beds are comfy and we had everything we needed. The neighborhood is quiet and Ellen is great - very communicative and nice. She made banana bread on the last day of our stay and offered us some for our drive to Seattle. And my kids loved meeting her cat Oscar before we had to leave. Highly recommend this VRBO host and location if you're in the Portland area! Thanks, Ellen!

Clean, comfortable & affordable!

  • 5 of 5

Ellen was great! She accommodated our temperature request, lent us her iron & even offered to drive us. This turned out to be so much better - and cheaper - than a hotel. I would definitely stay here again & recommend it to anyone looking for a place in this area. Thanks again Ellen!
