About Laurie

We have lived in Eastern Oregon most our lives and in Baker City the past 25 years. We are experienced in most the outdoor amenities the area offers, so are willing to share the best spots to enjoy God's Country, Baker County!

Laurie purchased this house in 2014

Why Laurie chose Baker City

The Keeper of the Valley is named after the old Legend of the shadow seen on the Elkhorn Mountains during Winter of an Indian brave. This kept the Natives away from the Elkhorn Mountains. On sunny days in winter, the brave is easily seen as a casting shadow from a ridge.

What makes this house unique

Outstanding country views, unlimited recreation, close to town. Private location with fire pit.

Premier property on 80 acres with incredible mountain views.

We have been getting a lot of requests for large group gatherings where only 10-12 actually stay, but more come for events like Weddings, family reunions, baby showers, holiday gatherings, etc.... The home is not set up for large groups and we do not allow more guests than are staying at the lodge. We live next door so are very aware of the amount of guests. Please be a courteous guest and follow our house rules. Thank you!

Great place for a large group!

  • 4 of 5

We had an amazing stay in Baker City. We loved the rural location of the property, yet it was a short drive to town. We skied at Anthony Lakes all 3 days, and it was amazing! The house was great. Super comfortable beds, a great large family room with tons of seating for all. The kitchen is really small, but adequate. The fridge is also small, but we had 3 different families who all brought food. There's no dishwasher and no washer and dryer, but we knew that going in. We were very happy and comfortable!

Roomy, comfortable, quite.

  • 5 of 5

This house is set up nicely for a group. It had enough sitting area's for reading, playing games and watching movies for everyone. The furniture was very comfortable. If we have another activity planned in this area we would stay here again.

Terrific hideout in a gorgeous setting

  • 5 of 5

We were three couples staying for two nights and looking to check out Barley Brown's and to see what Baker City has to offer. We were pleasantly surprised by the many interesting shops and the historical museum in town, and by how friendly everyone was. The Keeper of the Valley property was the perfect place to wind down all weekend. The grounds are beautifully landscaped, and the six of us gathered around the fire pit on several occasions for a relaxing chat, both day and night. The home's tiny kitchen was a non-issue for us. It was suitably equipped for tasks like cooking scrambled eggs, warming a homemade peach pie, and preparing a salad. We also ate in town. The single shower was also a non-issue. We liked the separate living spaces and how one half of the house can be closed off from the other half, making it flexible for both openness and privacy. Beds were comfortable and the furnishings lovely. We especially enjoyed the gorgeous sunsets from the front yard. I'm glad we came to Baker City and stayed at Keeper of the Valley.

Great base to see the Baker area

  • 4 of 5

Our group of 6 stayed here while attending a workshop in the area. It made a great base for us to stay while we attended the workshop and explored the Baker area. It was roomy and the beds were very comfortable. We had more than enough room and privacy. The house is near Baker, but far enough out in the country to be quiet and serene. The kitchen is small, so I wouldn't recommend this place if you plan to do a lot of cooking. But, for a quick breakfast or to make salads or sandwiches it worked great. The owner Laurie was great to communicate with and responded quickly. The house used to function as an office, so the layout is a little different, but for our needs it worked perfectly. Thank you Laurie!
