Great location near the National Park! Clean, quiet, beautiful accomadations

  • 5 of 5

The house and surrounding landscape were enchanting. The fern forest was a new experience for us and we all loved it. There are two pleasant porches to relax and enjoy the ferns from. The kitchen has everything you need and more. The beds were comfy and there was plenty of room for our group of six adults.

We hated to leave and would love to come back someday!

quiet and great location

  • 5 of 5

This house is abundant in supplies to make our stay as comfortable as possible. It is very clean and has absolutely anything you need of items that you can find at home. There were more than enough kitchen supplies and dinnerware for our group of 6. The house is in great shape and the bedrooms are cozy especially the master bedroom and the place is nicely furnished. The house also had heaters prepared for the cold nights we endured. Overall, this place satisfied my family. We definitely recommend this place if you are looking to visit the volcanoes; it is just minutes away.

Perfect house, quiet and in great condition

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this wonderful house with 5 adults for 4 nights. We had plenty of room for everybody. From delicious coffee to extra toiletries was nearly everything there! The location was close to the National Park - perfect to explore the volcano. The nights in Febuary were pretty cold, but we had no probleme with the space heaters.

We hope to come back again!

Sweet house close to Volcanoes but a loooong way from any beaches

  • 3 of 5

The house was nice and the beds were comfortable. It was well stocked with everything EXCEPT the promised starter logs that we needed to get the house warm in the morning. I'm sure the host would have come out to stock them except I couldn't find his number to call until the last evening. There were space heaters in each room but when I tried to put two in the cold living room they blew out the fuses. By the last morning I had figured out how to work with the space heaters and we spent as little time as possible in the house because we were out experiencing Hawaii. I know the lack of starter logs or kindling was just an oversight that they will probably correct but I have two suggestions for the landlord. Find a better way to post the house number. We arrived after dark each day and the house was tucked back in the woods. It took a lot of driving up wrong driveways looking for a number that was almost impossible to see in the dark. If the landlord could place distinctive lights at the entrance and let renters know what to expect it would be helpful. Also, it would be helpful to post a phone number in the book the tenants are supposed to read, just in case someone needs to get in touch with a responsible party.

If I had done a better job of researching the island of Hawaii I would have realized that being near the shore does not mean it is near a beach. We drove close to 4 hours before we found a beach on the Kona side.

Owner's Response: We welcome constructive criticism but do want to respond to a few specifics. Our phone numbers are provided in a ‘guest info’ binder right inside the front door as well as in a detailed email sent via VRBO before each guest’s arrival. Although we don’t ‘promise’ starter logs, we always provide firewood and almost always have starter logs or kindling. We’re happy to drop off something like this if contacted by a guest. There are also a couple of stores just 5 minutes away that usually have these items. We did volunteer to drop off some starter logs as soon as this guest contacted us. Volcano Village is not on the coast. People typically stay here to be close to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. There are beaches about 35-40 minutes away. We do have a beautiful handmade wood sign at the entrance to the driveway that says, “Tree Fern Escape”, but we will check to see if better lighting may make sense to help at night. As most reviews reflect, we try to go above & beyond to provide a perfect place to relax and enjoy this special part of Hawaii.

Words will not do this gem justice

  • 5 of 5

This was one of the most wonderful, perhaps even the best VRBO stay that we have ever experienced. And we have done many over the years. It is a lovely oasis surrounded by magnificent ferns. Perfectly inviting outside and pristine inside. Every detail of this home is meticulously planned and caters to your every need. From the bedrooms to the kitchen to the living room every comfort is provided. If you choose to sit on the lanai, and you would be foolish not to, you will be serenaded by all manner of birds and have total privacy from the outside world. We would have loved to stay forever. There are not enough adjectives to do this home justice you have to experience it for yourself. An added bonus for us was getting great tips for the home the we will be building in a couple of months.
