Overview

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday apartment in Cotignac - Le Moulin de Cotignac

Self catering property, sleeps 4, in private gardens with pool.

Le Moulin is a restored 16th Century olive oil mill situated minutes away from the village of charming, medieval Cotignac. This self catering apartment was designed to incorporate the wonderful Provencal light and views to the private garden can be seen from every window. The architect combined the old olive mill wall with a modern living space which gives the apartment a relaxing, quiet ambiance.

The apartment is on two floors, with two bedrooms, a galleried landing, and bathroom with an unusual feature mirror set into the old wall. An open, wooden staircase leads down to an open plan living area, incorporating dining, kitchen and lounge seating. This area is furnished to reflect the colours and traditions of Provence.

The terrace, reached by French windows from the living area, looks down on private gardens in which the shared pool is situated. The pool is surrounded by a charming patio shaded by fig and mulberry trees.

All about Cotignac, Provence: Cotignac is all one would expect of a Provencal village with narrow streets, shady squares with fountains and old pantiled houses. It is an ideal centre for visiting the Mediterranean coast, Italy, the Pre-Alps and the Camargue. In Summer it provides all we long for in a warmer climate. In Spring and Autumn one can lunch on the terrace, walk in the afternoons, and light a fire to sit by in the evening.

All about the apartment: Ground Floor - Front door leading into entrance hall with small cloakroom. Open plan living area is attractively furnished with dining table for four, wood stove, and comfortable seating area. The area is floored throughout with handmade terracotta tiles and rugs. The kitchen area is well equipped with oven, dishwasher, washing machine, large fridge and ice box, electric juice extractor, toaster and coffee grinder. First Floor- One twin bedroom and one double bedroom, both with fitted carpets and wardrobes. The bathroom has a bath, two wash-basins and a W.C. A separate shower is planned for the season of 2012. There is a large feature mirror set against the restored mill wall he Gardens- are terraced and planted with lavender, rosemary, thyme and olive trees. The pool which is shared amongst the other apartments that make up the mill conversion, is 7m x 10m and has a charming patio area, shaded by fig and mulberry trees

A relaxing stay in a beautiful environment

  • 5 of 5

just remembering the wonderful holiday we had at this beautiful converted mill last year. I was there with my husband and two teenage daughters and it had everything we needed. situated seconds walk from an idyllic French town of Cotignac with restaurants, markets and fresh fruit and vegetables on hand, we spent our week there either dipping in the very quiet infinity pool, walking into the extraordinary hillside, visits to a stunning lake where we swam and kayaked and waterfalls and beautiful villages at every turning.

The flat itself is spacious and easy with everything you need and built into the olive mill itself, it is cool and full of style.

It really ticked all the boxes for us and we found Vivien so easy to deal with.

We do really hope to go back sometime

Apartment review in Cotignac

  • 5 of 5

The meet and greet arrangements went very smoothly. The apartment was ideal and very homely-we enjoyed spending our time there.

The location was beautiful and the balcony overlooking the river a treat. The pool was in a lovely spot, right by the river, although we would have loved some sun loungers to snooze on. The apartment is so close to the village-couldn’t be in a better spot and the village is one of the nicest we have been in in France. There were ample restaurants-our favourite by far was La Terrace, just round the corner from the apartment, serving delicious, less expensive food, in a lovely surrounding.

We would recommend this apartment and location to others and we hope to return.

Our stay was over too soon!

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing week at the moulin, during a very hot French summer. Despite the heat, the apartment stayed cool enough to sleep comfortably in and was very spacious. It was very well appointed with everything a family would need. My four-year-old loved the pool which was perfect for him as it wasn't huge and we had it to ourselves every day. We wanted to teach him to swim while we were here and I t gave him the confidence of a shallow end but the sense of achievement that comes from venturing into the deep end! Cotignac was a lovely place, small-ish but very bustling with a great atmosphere. We loved the daytime market (Tuesday's) and the night time craft market (Wednesday's). The local Spar, just five minutes from the apartment catered for our needs without us having to go further afield. The issue with parking isn't really a problem, we unloaded outside the moulin then moved the car to a nearby car park just a couple of minutes away. We hope to be back soon!

A Provencal home from home

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the Moulin and have taken home so lovely memories. The apartment is welcoming, cozy and very thoughtfully equipped and there was a great selection of books and guides available. The terrace was a delight and it was so nice to be able to sit out overlooking the beautiful gardens and listening to the river and the cigales. The kids loved the swimming pool which was perfect for our 6 year old who was keen to learn to swim and for our 5 year old who is not so keen and had plenty of room to paddle. We loved the village (literally a minute walk away) also and found the locals to be charming and very helpful. The boulangerie up the four steps on the left on the way into the village had the most amazing bread and the pizzas at les trois marches were lovely. All in all a fantastic holiday and we can't wait to return.

Lovely apartment well situated in charming village

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 from NZ spent a lovely week here. The apartment was in a great location for wandering up to the village - we all thought the baguettes from the nearest boulangerie were the best in France. Good cafes and restaurants nearby offered lots of choice. The apartment was very comfortable and clean, just as the photos portray. We spent many hours relaxing and cooling down in the pool - what a view! Cotignac was a great place to explore the area, Gorges du Verdon well worth the drive, Aups, Aix en Provence, Marseille. Would recommend this apartment for a relaxing spot in Provence. Vivien was very helpful and prompt with enquiries, the booking process very simple. We would love to come back, thanks!

Our second visit to Le Moulin

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to Le Moulin and it lived up to all our memories and expectations. It is a beautiful property, clean and well maintained and in a perfect location, set in lovely gardens only two minutes from the centre of the village. The pool is small but delightful. Cotignac is idyllic, whether you want to stroll around the little streets soaking up the atmosphere or sit on the Cours watching the world go by. Although it is only a small village, there are plenty of cafes and restaurants to enjoy, street markets and events at the open air theatre. Within a short drive there is plenty to do and see and we visited Aix, the seaside at Sanary sur Mer near Toulon and the Lac de Sainte Croix this year which were all very enjoyable days out. The owner of this property is very helpful and friendly and we felt very welcome. We definitely hope to be back next year!

Location

Car: necessary

This self catering apartment for four is a minute's walk away from the centre of Cotignac, 1 hour away from the beaches of the Cote d'Azure and an 1 1/2 hours from Aix en Provence. There is golf at nearby at Barbaroux, close to Brignoles, and water sports at the Gorges de Verdon 45 minutes drive away. The Abbaye de Thoronet is close by and makes a wonderful cool afternoon excursion. Excellent vineyards surround Cotignac and the best honey in France is made from local lavender and thyme. Musical concerts are often held at the chateau of Entrecasteaux 5 miles away.
