Convenient and clean

  • 5 of 5

We were in for a Family Wedding near by. It was in perfect walking distance into town where other family members were staying.

We found the house very clean and the owners Dan and Amy very helpful with any questions that we had.If we're ever in the area again will be back.

Excellent Property

  • 5 of 5

Great property if you prefer to stay in town. Excellent layout for a large group. The backyard is very spacious with plenty of places for people to sit. Easy walking to the grocery and cafe. Kitchen has everything you need. We had about 10 people staying here for a wedding in town, and this place was perfect.

Fantastic home near Gore Mountain

  • 4 of 5

This was our second year staying here and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay again. The kitchen is well-stocked and all the rooms are cozy and comfortable. We found the home clean upon arrival and throughout our stay, the walkways were salted and sanded as needed due to icy conditions. Great home.

Absolutely perfect

  • 5 of 5

This is our second stay at Gore Mountain House. Both times for a ski racing weekend. The house is two minutes from Gore, in a village with grocery, take out, restaurants, etc, and has everything you could need provided (even a ski tuning/waxing bench). We had two other families with us for the first time who couldn't say enough great things about the stay. Absolutely perfect! Thank you!

Warm and comfortable place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We have been coming to Gore Mt. with a large group of families for 20 years and have stayed at or seen many of the options available to renters for a long weekend. For the past seven years we have stayed at Dan and Amy's and have never been disappointed. It is well-maintained, comfortable and for us, we like the proximity to town for a walk to the store or for eating out. We especially like the dining room which has plenty of chairs and a large table to have a group dinner. It's like staying at a good friend's home. Always happy to go back.

Nice property, with owner issues.

  • 2 of 5

We initially experienced a pleasant stay at this property. The problem was that we found that the owner would not return our security deposit, claiming issues with the house as we had left it. This was a surprise, since having rented in multiple homes in various locations over the course of 15 years this situation has not come up. In part the owner sent pictures of what represented his issues. One was of a single dog hair (The hair probably was brought in inadvertently by someone on their clothing. The owner was concerned about allergic responses. In the mean time one member of our party suffered an allergic reaction from the bedding she was sleeping on. She needed medical attention for the reaction.; A picture of a candy bean that a child dropped and we missed in the clean-up (I would assume that the cleaning fee could handle this); Two neatly closed hefty garbage bags that were left out by the regular refuse cans (The two on the property were insufficient for the five days we were there); The owner claimed that the stove top was damaged due to our use. This issue I must honestly confess ignorance to. The chip pictured may have been our fault, but no one in our party noticed it.

Regardless of culpability, real or imagined, I would caution against the rental of this property. The owner was give a chance to respond to our concerns. He has not thus far not, after two attempts. We also noticed that it seemed like some of his neighbors were watching the property, in excess of what you would consider "neighborly".

If you are a complete perfectionist, and have the capacity to exercise this level of perfection in terms of how you leave the property, I say good luck and may the Force be with you. If you are a normal human being who attempts to be considerate to an owners needs, you may be out of luck. The Force has its limits with an OCD owner.

Owner's Response: Dear Joanna, We thank you again for staying at The Gore Mountain House. We did attempt to contact you several times after your departure from the house, but after our initial exchange regarding the noted items we did not hear from you again until your review was posted. You were given ample opportunity to explain the cracked stove top and the fact that you had a dog on the property before we determined that your damage deposit would be withheld. The other items you noted in your review were immaterial and were not the reason for the damage deposit being withheld. Unfortunately, during your stay someone in your party cracked the surface of our glass top stove. This was not a simple chip, but rather a high impact crack that destroyed the stove top. We priced out a replacement top from several sources and the cost was over $400 which alone exceeds the damage deposit. Also, a dog was present on the property, which violated the terms of our rental agreement. Our no pet provision was made clear to you prior to booking when you asked about bringing a dog to the house, yet you chose to ignore our policy. We are not sure what your guest had a reaction to, but we are glad she is OK. We have never had anyone complain about the bedding before and our 4 year old slept in that exact bed every weekend last month without issue. If there was an issue with the bedding, we do wish you had brought it to our attention during your stay or at least before we notified you we would be retaining the damage deposit. We have had well over 200 rentals over the past 11 seasons and strive to ensure our guests have a great stay at our home. We have over 55 five star reviews for our home on VRBO as well as outstanding reviews on several other rental sites. We have many returning renters that come back year after year. During that time we have kept all or a portion of the damage deposit only 3 times (including for your stay). I do hope that future potential guests will realize that this review is an anomaly from a guest who was happy with her stay until we made the difficult decision to retain her damage deposit. If you have any questions regarding this review or anything about the house or our policies, please let us know. Best regards, Dan and Amy Sell
