Good Deal!

  • 5 of 5

Nice, quiet, inexpensive, comfortable place. Well located, at intersection with Maddox Boulevarde. Plenty of privacy, easy parking. Great for 2 people, though can handle a few more. Owner's assistant is easy to contact. Rodney also good to deal with.

Excellent place (all you need for a short vacation) and an honest host!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at this cabin, we really felt at home. Rodney was very honest. He reached out and ensured that we understood that the place was on the smaller side in case we were planning to be inside longer. He worked with us and was flexible in regards to our check in. We highly recommend this place and we are positive we will come back again. It has all you need for a short stay, even more (clean kitchen ware and stuff). the place is within walking distance from the shops, restaurants, and the lovely local Library. We really enjoyed out time at the cabin and on the island as a whole. Thank you so much, Rodney!

Great location, but some issues

  • 3 of 5

The good - Very walk-able location as it's right on Main Street. Ducks in the yard every day looking for breakfast. Big yard. Despite being right off Main, it was quiet. Lots of towels and well stocked with essentials. Security deposit returned quickly.

The bad - Pictures of the rental are old. The remotes were filthy, the heating/air unit was disgusting, the bathroom smelled. The windows don't open, the one over the kitchen sink was taped shut. There are chairs and tables outside, but they're dirty or broken. A mop was next to the front door. (and yes, I have photos of everything). I had trouble figuring out the heating the first night, owner was non responsive (phone issues on his end). Cable box was unplugged - had to figure that out on my own. I left a day early, my allergies were really acting up.

The wrapup - You get what you pay for. It's a basic place that's not a hotel, which I appreciated. But I had to write the issues out in case someone else is on the fence. I've rented several other places on HomeAway and have always had great success.

Suggestions for owner - leave a list of how to work the remotes. Charge a cleaning fee or get a new cleaning person. Update your photos.

Suggestions for HomeAway - hire English speaking customer service representatives - they were useless when I called. Too much noise in the background and not able to comprehend my problem.

Owner's Response: We truly apologize if Dot B. did not have as great an experience as most, if not all, of our other visiting travelers have experienced. We always strive to exceed expectations so we have taken Dot B's suggestions to heart and have made some changes to how we manage the cottage. We now have instructions for how to operate the remotes. We assumed they were straight forward for folks to operate but we realize that everyone is not experienced with remotes so we now understand. We cleaned the filters in the a/c and heating unit which we typically do every season. I believe that is what Dot B was referring to when she said a/c/heating unit was dirty. We took all rugs out of the bathroom which we believe may have been musty and causing some of Dot B's allergic reaction. We are in the process of replacing the windows that do not have screens. The main and larger window opens fine and has a screen. We do have a cleaning service for the cottage and they typically do a great job. Not sure if they had an off day before Dot B arrived or not but we have reviewed Dot B's review with them. We appreciate feedback on what we are doing well as well as how to be better. Once again we apologize if Dot B had a challenging experience. Thanks to everyone for understanding. We look forward to all that visit with us having a very fun and enjoyable experience. Thank you!

Convenient location, charming, all amenities included!

  • 5 of 5

Rodney was incredibly responsive with check in info and any questions about our stay. The cottage itself was exactly as described. Cozy, It is the perfect size it is the perfect size for a couple. However, this small space was well appointed. There is a pull out couch, coffee table, dining table, and well stocked kitchen supplies. If you will be cooking yourself, there's a hot plate and microwave. The air conditioning and heating system worked very quickly and could adjust to whatever temperature you would like. Rodney has thought of everything, with extra towels and bedding supplies stocked in the cabinets. The whole place was cleaned nicely before our arrival. Parking is right next to the cottage. The location could not be better, since it is right on the intersection of the two main drags in town, and the cabin is right off of the bridge that brings you to Chincoteague. Easily walkable to restaurants and shops. We loved that the cottage was pet-friendly as well. There is a big yard right next to the cabin where our yellow lab could play. Great place to explore Chincoteague!
