Comes with A/C in all main rooms, internet, stove, fridge, outside sitting area, and peaceful neighbours and locals.

The main attraction for this house is its location. Its right next to one of the world's most beautiful beaches. Its a turtle sanctuary and tourists can book evening turtle walks and experience the life cycle of our local turtles.

The cuisine here is fusion mix of Mexican, Mayan, North American, European and is very fresh. There are beach bars, restaurants, ruins, snorkeling, diving, sailing, fishing, spas, resorts, adventure parks, cenotes, lagoons and just about anything to keep you going.

On the flip side, the community is also very quiet. If you're looking for something different than a resort vacation, you can save money and experience an authentic visit to Mexico.

If you walk down the streets of Chan Chemuyil expect friendly faces to say hello and even invite you for a sit down and beer. Its a very relaxed and peaceful place to kick off your flip flops and chill. A cold beer next to the pool is a great way to cool off and get some sun.

The neighbouring village of Chemuyil is a nice place to go for a walk. At night the town is alive with children playing and people walking around. Often celebrations, weddings, and festivals abound. Circuses and bull fighting show up as well.

Xcacel beach is only a few minutes walk and you can take some food and drinks with you and sit on the beach all day if you like. The beach is open from 9am to 5pm. They also offer turtle walks in the evenings and you have to go and sign up for that beforehand.

Tulum is a growing town and is full of surprises. They have one of the best beaches in the world and is a must see. The ruins are also close by and is known for being the only seaside Mayan ruins. Get there early and avoid the crowds.

If archaeology is your thing, more ruins can be found in Muyil, Coba, Ek Balam and of course Chichen Itza. Cost to get in use usually very minimal. Having a car is very useful but you can also do tours if you opt out of getting a car.

Having a car here is not necessary. Collectivos (shuttle vans) run up and down the highway carrying passengers from Tulum to Playa del Carmen and back again. You can step out onto the highway and catch one easily. Rates are cheap and you can get around without a car.

Akumal is very close and offers great swimming and snorkeling. The bay is teaming with turtles during the Summer and Fall months. Yal Ku is a lagoon that's protected and is also a great snorkeling excursion. You can visit beach restaurants like La Buena Vida and Lol Ha and enjoy breathtaking views while munching on local cuisine and drinks.

Theme parks like Xel-ha are very close and offer an all inclusive setting for the day. Once in, your food and drinks are free and you can walk around the lagoon, or go for an inner tube float down the mangroves, zip line over the water, swim and snorkel and see all the tropical fish in the lagoon.

Be sure to go to places like Solomon Bay and have lunch on the beach at the end of the road. Fresh sea food taken right from the bay is cooked and served on the beach in between palm trees for shade and an amazing view of the bay.

Tankah Bay also has some interesting features like Casa Cenote. Cenotes are one of the unique features of this area. Basically sink holes, the underground water system is practically all connected in some way or another along the entire Yucatan peninsula. The water in the cenotes near the ocean tend to be a tad salty as the water mixes between the two bodies of water but is not as salty as the ocean.

There are services offered here that may interest some tourists such as yoga, massage, diving, cave diving, the list goes on. Many of them are very local and nearby.

A true home away from home. All the conveniences like wifi, apppliances, air conditioning with beautiful swimming holes down the roiad (cenotes) and of course the Gulf of Mexico - warm and friendly ... 10 minute walk gets you into delightful village with some good restaurants, supplies, taxis, etc ... not tourist hell but long term owners, locals, and did I mention swimming holes. Support staff quick and efficient. Great backyard to swing in hammock ... play Pokemon ... highly recommended

Perfect place for a little R&R

  • 4 of 5

The previous review describes the neighborhood and house pretty completely. We had everything we needed and enjoyed the stay immensely. The owner/manager was helpful and prompt when we needed. (Pilot light had gone out on the water heater and he responded right away.) I don't know if the majority of the neighborhood people are vacationers or ex-pat owners but they were extremely friendly and either way had reason to be happy. The beach is excellent. We checked out three others while we were there and they were either much more crowded or the surf was much rougher.

You should know that it is quiet and sleepy right around there. It's for people who want the opposite of the resort life in Cancun. If you want a lot of restaurants or a party scene you'll have to drive a half hour to Tulum. The larger grocery stores are there, too. The next time I want a relaxing, economical vacation in Mexico I'll definitely return.

Cute house, in a neigborhood

  • 4 of 5

This cute, pink house is in a neigborhood, which seems mainly holiday-ers, but was great. We were there over Christmas and on Christmas eve, we heard a jolly "Ho-Ho-Ho!" outside... and then a knock on the door. There was Santa and his elves! They asked is there were any children and even after we said no, he gave us a hefty bag of Christmas goodies!

The house is well stocked for self catering, with a full oven, and has lovely additions like a cooler, some beach chairs and a boogie board to use at the beach. It's got air-conditioners and plenty of towels and bedding. There is an outdoor shower in the back courtyard (which I loved), and 2 hammocks, outdoor dining and a grill. There are 2 small cenotes in the neighborhood, and it's not a bad walk to the beach, although you have to cross the highway. Beach is almost private with good swimming. The next town (Chemuyil) is within walking distance and there you can find little stores and good tortillerias! We didn't try any restaurants, although there are a few. Easy drive to Tulum, roads are good.
