Two- Room Suite At The Goldtown Hideaway

Bedrooms 1
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

In- Town Accommodation Just 2 Blocks From Nevada City's 'Downtown' Attractions

This charming two-room suite was recently updated and is a very comfortable space for guests looking for accommodation only 2 blocks from Nevada City’s downtown. Features include a recently updated bathroom, Restoration Hardware’s 600-threadcount bedding and towels, a new queen-size bed with a new Beauty rest mattress, new flat-screen TV with Direct TV, and a little West Elm sectional sofa in it's small but charming living area overlooking the yard. There is also a large parking area onsite, very important as it’s nearly impossible to park in-town during all of Nevada City’s wildly popular events.

About Mollie Poe

We are a San Francisco family who fell in love with Nevada City at first sight when dropping our oldest daughter to sleep away camp on the Yuba River in July of 2013. We stumbled upon 534 Spring Street that weekend, with it's proximity being only a block behind Nevada City's Broad Street commercial district, and 6 miles from the unbelievably beautiful Yuba River, and we knew that this was somewhere we wanted to retreat from our busy city life in San Francisco.

Mollie Poe purchased this apartment in 2013

Why Mollie Poe chose Nevada City

The charm of this property is unparalleled. Although thee may be other guests onsite, there is a real sense of privacy and seclusion as it's located on nearly a full-acre with fruit and nut bearing trees, vast landscape and an incredible variety of plant life....yet it's only a 5 minute walk to all of the city's awesome cafes and restaurants, theaters, nightlife, hikes, bike trails, and more. We love it!

What makes this apartment unique

Our entire property consists of a spacious 3-bedroom home with an additional 2-room in-law suite, a separate garden studio on the side of the house, and also a large 2-room barn on the rear of the lot. All 4 'compartments' of the property have separate entrances and are very different spaces, yet all updated with new flooring, Restoration Hardware linens, towels and cutlery. All new Beauty rest mattresses throughout the property in all bedrooms, and plush down and down-alternative pillows. Comfort abounds in every element of the property. We redesigned the home, barn, in-law, and garden-studio by blending the modern updates of today's style of living with an influx of locally sourced antiques and accessories, maintaining a regard for the property's eclectic and historical 'cabin-like' past, having been built in 1851 by two Irish brothers who 'struck it rich' in the early days of the 1849 Gold Rush.

not good

  • 1 of 5

We stayed in basement room (the two-room suite) without seeing a host for the entire three day stay. There was only one wash cloth, no coffee/sugar and no bar soap. The exterior door wouldn't lock, doorways in both rooms were too low for anyone over 6 ft., and there was only one bedside table. We were visited by ants (by the hundreds if not thousands) that came in from behind wall heater (no host there to assist) as well as a lizard in the bathroom. There was a french press coffeemaker and an electric kettle, but nothing in the literature we were sent beforehand said to bring our own coffee and condiments. There was no microwave. Did I mention rat/rats in the ceiling that gnawed all night as if they would come thru and fall on the bed....have I said enough?

We stayed there 12 years ago with a charming live-in host there to help and the experience was great.

Reservations were awkward and took days to accomplish....would like to attribute to growing pains of new owners, at least I hope so because property has the potential to be excellent as it once was

Owner's Response: I'm very surprised to receive a review like this. We've been hosting guests for nearly 3 years now, and have had nothing but glowing feedback. As for the specifics, we have hosts available around the clock and can always accommodate specific requests or in case something unexpected should occur. We also have a handyman who can handle any task that might arise. We have had ants on very rare occasion during rain, but have never had a lizard, rats, or rodents of any kind. Although not advertised, we do have an electric kettle and a french press onsite for guest use as an added perk, although we do not supply ground coffee as tastes very greatly in that regard. Nespresso machines can allow for guests to have coffee on-demand, but for environmental purposes, we do not use them. We generally only supply condiments, and microwaves, in our other accommodations with full-kitchens, but we are always available to supply sugar, an extra washcloth, or just about anything a guest could want by request. It's very important to reach out to hosts immediately if there is anything unusual, or if there is anything else that we can provide to make your stay the very best it can be. We are completely unaware of any trouble with the locking mechanism on the Emtek push-button locking systems, but we are looking into that right away. I'm sorry for any frustrations with VRBO's booking system, it does seem that VRBO is doing their best to try to make the process as smooth as possible. Perhaps contacting them with specific details would halp them with customer satisfaction. We welcome any opportunity to talk directly if you'd like to discuss things further.
