About the property

Gulf Dreams On-the-beach - 5 Bedrooms - Sleeps 12 - Heated Pool - Private Beach

Imagine a beach vacation at a house that’s like your very own luxury beach resort called Gulf Dreams on-the-beach. The deed to this luxury beach house states that the property’s west boundary is the Gulf of Mexico. The house has 75 feet of private, white sand Gulf beach for your pleasure, easily accessed by the only private, elevated boardwalk on the island.

Imagine arriving at Gulf Dreams on-the-beach’s private 85-foot dock on a private canal (in your boat, or by boat taxi), located 1,000-feet east of Gulf Dreams’s beach house. This dock can also be fished from. You will be greeted at the dock by Gulf Dreams manager who will transfer you and your luggage to the house. Imagine this manager, who is a full-time resident of the island, will familiarize you with the beach house and amenities, as well as the island, and will be a phone call away during your stay to meet your needs.

Imagine a secluded luxury beach house four stories tall accessed by a long, lavishly-landscaped driveway providing privacy from golf cart traffic and neighboring houses. The house sleeps 12 in five Bedrooms with en-suite Bathrooms

Imagine having one of the only privately-owned swimming pools and pool-side gazebos on the island located on a beach dune, surrounded by lush tropical vegetation and a remote controlled waterfall that provides complete privacy.

Imagine your own luxury beach resort with its own beach picnic table, 12 beach chairs and 6 umbrellas. Fishing from our private beach can be very good. Six kayaks make going to the island 1/3 mile offshore in the Gulf a great family shelling adventure. Six bicycles allow you to explore the wildlife preserve on the south 2/3 of North Captiva, especially the beach at low tide. A private volleyball court will be set up for guests upon request for entertainment on Gulf Dreams' beach. Ping-pong, board games, puzzles, cards and chips allow for family fun out of the sun. The private canal dock allows fishing or docking your boat.

Imagine a bright and airy 4-story beach house with vaulted ceiling heights of 10 to 14 feet throughout, 2 large screened-in lanais with expansive views of the pool and Gulf of Mexico (one where you can eat all your meals outdoors, the other where you can play ping-pong and board games). Imagine a large, 4th-floor master suite, with spectacular 360-degree views of the Gulf and bay sides of the island, a gourmet, fully-equipped kitchen with granite counters and high-end appliances, travertine and granite bathrooms, most with twin sinks.

About Stewart & Lucy

We are retired in the Texas Hill Country. In the 15 years that we've owned Gulf Dreams on-the-beach, our family has had many memorable times with family and friends enjoying all that the house and the island have to offer. In June 2015, we decided to offer Gulf Dreams on-the-beach for vacation rentals for the first time.

Stewart & Lucy purchased this house in 2000

Why Stewart & Lucy chose Florida

Having spent winters in Florida in the late 1940's with my family to escape Michigan's severe weather, I have fond memories of the sparsley-populated Florida beaches we enjoyed. North Captiva Island rekindled these memories with its 2 miles of wildlife refuge and pristine beach just south of Gulf Dreams on-the-beach's private beach. We were living in Denver when we first rented a house on North Captiva and fell in love with the 1940's Florida atmosphere there. After 7 years of renting on the island, we decided to buy our house, and have never regretted our decision. Over the 15 years that we've owned Gulf Dreams on-the-beach, the house has hosted many of our family and friends for a unique island vacation experience.

What makes this house unique

Views of the Gulf of Mexico from the 3rd floor lanai, where we eat all our meals, weather permitting, and from the 4th floor master bedroom are awesome. The lush tropical landscaping, especially around the heated pool and remotely controlled waterfall, helps create the quiet serenity and privacy that make Gulf Dreams on-the-beach special. The ability to launch kayaks (6 are provided) into the Gulf of Mexico from Gulf Dreams' private beach and go out and shelling at the offshore island and in the state park and observe the abundant sea life these waters offer. Some of our best memories are riding bicycles (6 are provided) through the wildlife preserve onto the deserted beaches of the south two-thirds of the island for premier shelling, as well as observation of wildlife. Our motto is: "We will do everything possible to see that our guests have a quality experience", and we take this seriously, from the moment our guests set foot on the island to the moment they depart. Our house manager (who live on the island) ensure that all our guests needs are met, and they go above and beyond what is required.

North Captiva Island is a bridgeless barrier island, about 3 miles long, accessed only by boat or private plane. Two-thirds of the island is a natural wildlife preserve with hiking and biking trails and remote beaches, while the remaining one-third consists of houses and sand roads. Transportation on these roads is by golf carts only; no automobiles are allowed. Uncrowded, pristine white sand beaches are unrivaled for sunbathing, swimming, launching kayaks, biking, shelling, hiking and fishing. It's reminiscent of Florida in the 1940's before it became a crowded tourist mecca.

Rest And Relaxation At Its Finest!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay at Gulf Dreams On-The-Beach! Your home and island far surpassed our expectations in so many ways. Everything went so smoothly the 10 days we were on the island. From arrival to departure, no detail was missed. The house was magnificent! Plenty of space for our party of 8 to spread out and relax. My husband and I were fortunate enough to stay on the top floor in the master suite. Wow! What a way to wake up in the mornings. The views were amazing and the bathroom was fabulous!! For that matter, the whole house had wonderful views from the multitude of windows and decks.

You truly have thought of everything a renter might need or want. From the golf carts, bikes, kayaks, pool toys, beach chairs and umbrellas, beach toys, life jackets, boogie boards, etc. Everything was put to good use. The pool was so refreshing after a day out on the boat or in the ocean. We loved all the beautiful, lush landscaping that surrounded the pool and the shade it provided us.

We rented a boat from Four Winds Marina for the week and they were wonderful to work with. It was handy having a boat dock so close to the house. Our kids loved watching the manatees at your boat dock. They were very playful in the mornings.

You also provided us with such DETAILED information before our trip. We definitely took advantage of all the restaurant suggestions and the maps were very helpful. We visited several islands during our stay and the men in our group loved taking the boat out fishing. Our favorite restaurant off North Captiva was the Tarpon Lodge. Great atmosphere and excellent food. On North Captiva, we spent lots of evenings at Mangos. Everyone on the island was so helpful and friendly.

I would also like to add that Jeff and Jane did a fantastic job of meeting any need we may have had during our stay. Jeff was at the dock at arrival to help with the luggage and get us settled in and Jane helped with our departure. My brother-in-law developed a bad ear infection midway through our stay and went to a medical clinic while we were exploring the island of Boca Grande. When a prescription was called into the wrong pharmacy, Jane went out of her way to go pick it up for him in Cape Coral. This is just one example of the care and dedication Jeff and Jane showed to us as guests. You are very blessed to have them as caretakers!!

We hope to return again someday and couldn't imagine staying anywhere other than your beautiful home! Thanks again!

Owner's Response: Our goal is to provide a first-class experience for our guests, one that surpasses their expectations. It sounds as if we succeeded with you and your family! Thank you for sharing the many details of what you all enjoyed about Gulf Dreams and the surrounding area. We agree that Tarpon Lodge is the best restaurant to reach by boat from North Captiva. Its atmosphere is "old Florida" and the food is indeed excellent. Glad you also enjoyed the restaurants on North Captiva. Our house managers Jeff and Jane are as committed as we are to making sure our guests have an exceptionally good experience during their stay. We look forward to welcoming you back to Gulf Dreams! Fun in the Sun at your own private resort

  • 5 of 5

Gulf dreams on the beach is like your own private resort. The house is beautiful with lots of room to spread out in and a gorgeous lanai to sit out on and watch the sun set and to eat with the family. Our family enjoyed playing ping pong, sunning ourselves, exploring and just hanging out together. At gulf dreams on the beach we had our own private path to the beach, a pool with lounge chairs, kayaks, beach bikes and golf carts to go exploring and our own dock to pull our boat up to and also fish from. There was also a sand bar that we kayaked out to daily where we found nice shells. Our family affectionately dubbed the sand bar as "West Captiva". Our family also made it out to the nature preserve and from there to the tip of the island where we found so many beautiful shells and had a glorious time. Jeff and Jane the property managers were excellent and accommodating. Thank you for renting out your beautiful vacation home. Our family will have many fond memories of our time at this beautiful location.

Owner's Response: We're very happy that Hurricane Irma by-passed North Captiva, so that your visit to Gulf Dreams was not affected by the storm. Your family took full advantage of our many amenities, including our 85-foot private dock on our fenced lot only 1/4 mile from the house. Kayak excursions to the sand bar offshore are always popular with our guests, especially because the shelling there can be even better than the exceptional shelling on our beach. You explored the entire island, all the way to the south tip at Red Fish Pass! Isn't the nature preserve beautiful, with it's miles of uncrowded, unrestored pristine beaches? We look forward to your return visit! Lucy and Stewart

Vacation Paradise

  • 5 of 5

The family really enjoyed our stay at Gulf Dreams on the Beach. The house was beautiful and offered so much privacy and seclusion that you felt like you were on your own private island. The beach was beautiful and we loved seeing the dolphins, manatee and tortoise.

The house managers, Jane and Jeff were very helpful and informative and wonderful to deal with.

Owner's Response: Thank you for being our guests at Gulf Dreams on-the-beach! We're glad you enjoyed our beach home's seclusion, one of its greatest assets. North Captiva Island is a wonderful place to enjoy watching abundant sea life in its surrounding waters, and it sounds like you took advantage of the viewing. We hope to welcome you back in the future. Lucy and Stewart

Beautiful property!

  • 5 of 5

I've never rented a house before, and this trip exceeded my expectations. We rented the house with my sister's family and my dad. The house comfortably fits 12 people and we never felt "on top of each other." We loved being on an island -- very relaxing - and enjoyed the beach and pool every day. We spent most of or time on the 3rd floor - cooking in the kitchen, eating meals, kids having downtime watching TV. There were plenty of sitting areas. We also spent a lot of time on the screened in porch - enjoying the view of the beach while we ate. We kayaked a lot - mostly to the sandbar where every day we found new shells and sand dollars deposited by the tide. We also went to the beach every night where we were lucky enough to see the international space station and a meteor shower on 7/27. We enjoying seeing dolphins, ghost crabs, sting rays, jumping fish, and a newly hatched sea turtle. The house had everything we needed -- a fully stocked kitchen, laundry, tons of beach towels. We went out to eat one night at Over the Water and really enjoyed the experience (especially the server feeding the catfish the leftovers which we saw when we left!). The property manager, Jane, was great at answering questions and addressing any needs while we were there. My only advice for those going is to plan food carefully because there are no grocery stores on the island. We got our food through Publix, but that was more expensive than I thought it would be. Someone on the island told me about the SHIPT app where you can order your food online and have it delivered to Island Girl Charters at the time of your boat taxi. Apparently, this was WAY CHEAPER. I've never tried it but am planning to try it out in the future! We had a great vacation with great memories. Several of my coworkers were "WOWED" with this property and may take a trip here in the future! Lastly, I will say that the owners were easy to work with and seemed genuinely interested in ensuring that we had a great time.

Owner's Response: Thanks for submitting this detailed review of your stay! We're happy to know your vacation at our beach home, Gulf Dreams, exceeded your expectations. That's our goal. The 3rd-floor screened lanai, with its 2 dining tables and 12 chairs, is our favorite place to eat meals and spend leisure time, because of its sweeping view of the Gulf of Mexico. We're glad your group also enjoyed this spectacular place for outdoor dining. Sounds like you took full advantage of all our beautiful beach has to offer: abundant sea life, beautiful night skies, a sandbar to kayak to using the 6 kayaks we supply, sea shells galore... Please return to Gulf Dreams, and we look forward to the possibility of having your coworkers visit us too! Lucy and Stewart

Great place to get away from it all.

Our family really enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere of the island. The property is private and the home is beautiful inside. We found lots of shells on the beach and the kayaks were a lot of fun.

Owner's Response: We're happy to hear you had a relaxing stay! Gulf Dreams' seclusion is one of its stellar assets, providing our guests the privacy they deserve for a relaxing vacation. North Captiva's beaches are unrestored (i.e., sand has not been pumped up onto the beach from the Gulf of Mexico), and this is one reason the shelling is excellent on our island. We're glad your group enjoyed our 4 single and 2 tandem kayaks. Please come back to Gulf Dreams! Lucy and Stewart

This was our third year of family vacationing at N Captiva. This vacation home was perfect for our children and grandchildren and my husband and I to enjoy time together and relax. Best shelling ever! Managers Jane and Jeff were available for all our inquiries and attentive to any needs during our stay. We enjoyed our stay very much and highly recommend it for family getaways.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your stay at Gulf Dreams on-the-beach. Glad your family enjoyed the shelling on our beach. Our island is well-known as the very best for sea shells, especially since it is a natural, unrestored beach. We're happy to know you agree that Jane and Jeff do an excellent job of taking care of our guests. As long-time island residents, they are very knowledgeable about the area and are happy to share their knowledge with guests at Gulf Dreams. Since they live full-time on the island, they are available to handle any situations that arise . We look forward to welcoming you back!
