About the property

3 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom this Lake Michigan Cottage Sleeps Up To 8 Guests

Majestic, powerful, vast, inspiring and breath-taking are the views of Lake Michigan from the living room, dining room, a bedroom and the large front deck of the Lyon's Cottage. The sunsets are spectacular and different every night of the summer. This classic Leelanau County ranch home is spacious, comfortably furnished, very solid and surrounds its occupants in the seasoned glow of cedar. The cottage sits feet from and looks out over spectacular Lake Michigan with 200 feet of private beach. The cottage is a few miles north of Leland, near the well known Happy Hour Tavern and Restaurant off Gill's Pier Road has three good sized bedrooms: one bedroom sports a king bed, the other two have two twin beds each. There is a pull out queen sofa in the living room. Provided for guests are high speed internet, a washer/dryer, a fireplace, deck, gas grill, and deck furniture Two yak boards are also on the property for guest use and enjoyment. The very private beach, though narrow this year, sits a distance below the high bluff on which the cottage watches over the water! There is a newly built strp structure from the bluff to the beach. Linens, towels, and enough paper and soap products are provided to get our guests started for the time they spend vacationing in the house.

Fantastic location, very quiet

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. Easy access with host, great views, the house seems bigger than advertised, nice stairs to the beach.

Nice stay.

  • 4 of 5

The property is quite nice. Large living room, kitchen area and master bedroom. The home has knotty pine throughout which lends to the up north feel. It overlooks Lake Michigan from a bluff so there are 45-50 steps down to the beach but the staircase is recently built with several landings. Beach was ok, sandy with small pebbles up to the shoreline. It is rocky for the first ten to fifteen feet into the lake but sugar sand after that. I would rent this property again and recommend it to a friend

Great Location, good amenities.

  • 4 of 5

Overall was a good experience. Located right on Lake Michigan, with stairway down to the water. Water levels are high this year, so very little room on the beach itself. Very quiet area...even in the middle of tourist season. Home is older, a bit of a musty air in the home, but well maintained. Would have liked to have had a fire pit outside, only fireplace inside. But all-in-all was a good place to stay with all the necessary amenities at a great location. I would recommend to others.

Misleading

  • 1 of 5

Upon arrival, we waited 45 minutes for the property manager's assistant to open the property. While waiting, we went down to the beach which was 45 steps down and not "several steps down". The beach was 5' in width and you had no beach when the tide came in. On our 2nd night, we called about not having any AC (it was 90 that evening and 91 the following evening), we were only then told that the ac had been damaged in a storm and the "owner made a good faith effort to supply two 12" fans". Needless to say, it was VERY uncomfortable with the local meteorologists stating the same. The owner did stop by two times on our last day there to take pics of the units--both times were unannounced and I was making dinner. The property manager's assistant also stopped by the same day, again two times unannounced. When she saw cars in the drive she backed out of the drive--suspicious? The gardner also stopped the same day--NOT RELAXING AT ALL. We were not given any compensation for not having ac because as I did sign a "dog contract" but we also ended up having to bring the cat. Even though the manager stated 2 times that we left the property in "very good condition", the fact that when "compensation" was brought up, we were told there was "extra cleaning" for the cat--what happened to us leaving the property in "very good condition"? I have rented through VRBO before in Colorado, Utah and TN and never had an issue. This trip had MANY issues. I am sorry but I would not recommend as we should have received a call stating that the property did not have ac at the time of our stay. Also, the steps leading to the lake were definitely more than "several steps down". Misleading information on the site about the property.

Owner's Response: Dear Judy, That you waited for 45 minutes to get into the cottage, I am sorry. You arrived and hour ahead of check-in time and my assistant came over from another job and let you in 15 minutes ahead of 4 PM. That the storm took out the air conditioners in the two back bedrooms was indeed unfortunate. Because the nights up here are normally so comfortable, I really did forget to tell you ahead of your arrival that they were not in working order. They are hard wired A/C units that take special ordering and professional installation. The owner did do that as quickly as possible, and the A/C units were replaced within less than a week of my knowledge that the units no longer functioning. There were two fans and the night time temps those mid July nights were in the mid to high 70's, not too awful for sleeping, especially with Lake Michigan breezes. As to the appearance of my assistant and the owners without prior warning to you, we were all under the impression, due to a text from you telling me you would be leaving by 10 in the morning after discovering the air in the bedrooms did not work that you had vacated the cottage. It was also at the time of your text that I mentioned a possible refund for the night I thought you would not be staying at the cottage. However, you did stay for your entire reservation, we discovered that you had also brought your cat with you without our knowledge or permission which resulted in extra time and expense to launder everything in the bedroom and professionally clean the drapes to assure that future guests with cat allergies would not suffer. Though I did not mention this to you in my note accompanying the full return of your doggie deposit and the full return of your damage deposit, that we also had to rid the property of cigarette butts left by someone (s) in your group. Finally, you agreed to crate your dog when he was left alone in the houseI. The owner stopped over when he thought you had left permanently to find the dog alone in the house uncrated. I was under the impression that returning all of your deposits in full, even though our house rules were ignored, was compensation for your discomfort due to malfunctioning A/C. This was an unfortunate experience all the way around.
