About the property

4/2 "COOL house!" - Easy walk to Northgate and Kyle Field with pool & fireplace

Howdy Ags!

Your search is over! An ideal rental for family gatherings, this beautiful home is just a short walk to both Kyle and Olson Fields. We have four large beds that each sleep two (1 full, 2 queens and 1 King) plus one extra comfy large and new sectional that will sleep two, plus one more 9 foot couch that is just as comfy, and a twin airbed, which brings the sleeping capacity up to 12 . Conveniently located not just to TAMU, but also to Northgate and all of the new restaurants and attractions at Century Court Complex. Fire School is just a short drive away. This is in the former Aggie coaches' neighborhood back in the 50's. So why over-pay for a hotel room where you can't even spread out and converse, play board games or watch sports together? At the Aggie Gem, there are many places to cozy up for conversation, watch the game on my huge 60" TV, or enjoy the private pool. The patio area is ready for fun with an umbrella covered table ad seating for six, but plenty more chairs, as well. There's also a brand new BBQ grill and a long custom buffet ready for your delicious spread of food.

This mid-century modern was designed and built by an Aggie architecture prof. Everyone loves the way the home is situated on the lot making it almost an island unto itself. The walls of windows bring the outside in - especially with the pretty little park across the street framed by my trees. A former neighbor told me the neighborhood was once home to Aggie coaches like Emory Ballard, Bear Bryant and Shelby Metcalf. We have an open living plan flooded with light from 3 walls of windows with plantation blinds on all. It is perfect for entertaining a crowd. Two huge Master bedrooms (one of them is a suite) and two guest bedrooms- all are incredibly comfortable!. All of the "extra sleeping places", like the couches or twin air mattress have bedding and pillowsupon request.

• Bed 1 - Full Size Bed

• Bed 2 - Queen size Bed

• Bed 3 - First Master- Queen size bed

• Bed 4 -Master Suite - King size bed and your own 60" tv. It's a large room with enough space for a pack "n' play or an air mattress.

• 2 Pack ‘n’ Plays - twin sheet can be used or bring your own sheets. Bring own baby blankets

• Window Seat in Bedroom 4 is perfect for a toddler - side guard available if needed. My grandkids love it.

• Master Bath has double sinks and a tub/shower combo plus direct access to the pool and patio.

• Front Bathroom - Single sink with a long counter. Tub/shower combo.

• Kitchen - Bright & streamlined - and true to the post modern era, it may be is as efficient as can be! We’ve had 4 cooks in the kitchen at once, each working their own station.

All silverware, dishes, glasses, wine glasses, etc are yours to use. Also the spice cabinet and any condiments. For your convenience, if you don’t feel like messing with dishes, a wide variety of plastic dishes are available: solo cups, heavy duty paper plates, plastic forks/knives/spoons...

• Sunroom - Sun-drenched open concept with new large sectional that sleeps 2 comfortably , 60” TV and a fireplace.

• Living Room - One large couch (can be used for extra sleeping spot - my 6’4” son loves it) with two comfortable chairs. Long buffet set up as a beverage bar for coffee/tea. Keurig coffee maker (bring your own k-cups although guests sometimes leave some behind), French press. Also makes a good place to lay out a food buffet. A dorm fridge is there as a convenient place to keep creamer, water or sodas.

• Dining Room - Bar between kitchen and dining makes a good place to set up beverages, too. Table with 4 chairs, other chairs and piano bench can be pulled to make 8 spaces possible.

• Laundry enclave - has new front loading LG washer/dryer with detergent, bleach, fabric softener., dryer sheets. Also there is an ironing board and iron.

• Patio and pool - patio is enclosed by a fence with gate to keep little ones safe. Patio is a nice place to chat under a large umbrella while barbecuing on the large propane grill. Poolside there are plenty of chairs and some chaises. The beautiful pool is surrounded by brick. It has a 10 ft cantilevered umbrella that can be positioned to cover quite a bit of the pool area.

• Large yard space behind pool perfect for kids to run around and play

Long, single lane driveway and carport that will hold approximately 6-7 cars, plus street parking in front of my house and along the park across the street.

About Barbara Svatek

Howdy! I'm a second generation Ag (my Dad was class of '53, I'm class of '80) and I am the proud owner of the Aggie Gem. My husband ('79) and I came to A&M and never left! Now widowed, this is my home and is set up for comfort and entertaining. I am a high school youth minister. Our two older children love to come home to visit with our adorable grandchildren (pictured). Since I am a recovering paraplegic who depends largely on a wheelchair or walker, my home is mostly handicap accessible. If a person can use a walker to get into the house, a wheelchair can access everything except the Master Suite bathroom (it will easily enter the front bathroom, though).

Barbara Svatek purchased this house in 2013

Why Barbara Svatek chose Bryan

This home spoke to us the moment we walked through the front door. It is a house of light and good cheer. It's a beautiful home inside and out. The location is ideal - so close to A&M, Northgate, the mall, University Drive restaurants, as well as Central and Downtown Bryan. It's super convenient, yet so peaceful and quiet. And the set up lends itself well to entertaining inside and out, with an open concept dining/living room/family room (with walls of windows overlooking the neighborhood park). One of the things we like best is the ability to put babies to bed in the back bedrooms, and the rest of us can have a good time (without having to be quiet). The pool, and the additional yard adjacent to it. is big enough to rent a giant inflatable water slide or tents and table settings for an outdoor party or reception.

What makes this house unique

My home is named the Aggie Gem because of it's LOCATION, unique post-modern style and features inside and out. We were told that an Aggie engineer prof designed this home for himself and a few others like it nearby. The long, wide hallway showcases the backyard with windows lining the entire length. When you step in the front door, you feel a part of the park scenery across the street, with three entire walls of windows. This home is just 1 1/2 mile walk through campus to Kyle Field and just a bit over 1/2 mile to Northgate. Yet it's not on one of the main roads, but tucked into a quiet, tree lined street in a "family zone". friends!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Emily wrote: We stayed five days and loved coming here because I could put our babies to bed in the back rooms and they weren't disturbed by the noises in the kitchen and living areas. My baby boys, age 3 and 18 months, love the long, wide hallway for racing anything: themselves, trucks, riding toys (and there are two here!) We took the boys across the street to the park because after looking at it from the windows 11 large windows across the two living areas, they wanted to check it out. No playground equipment, but a nice little stroll for us. The backyard also is large behind the pool, but at this age, they are too inquisitive and run too fast to take them out there unless we're actually in the pool with them. But the enclosed patio keeps them corralled nicely, and it was nice to be able to let them play out there without worries. This home is beautiful but not pretentious. I wasn't worried my boys would break something and we just loved being lazy all over that big sectional couch in the sunroom. The boys would crawl or walk back and forth looking out all of the windows and waving at neighbors walking their dogs or jogging. We'll be back!!!

Eight guys stayed here. Great home to stay in. Very confortable, full amenities. Loved the use of the kitchen and coffee bar. Nice distance to A&M campus. We look forward to staying here again.

Cool House!

  • 5 of 5

Nice home in good proximity to the Texas A&M campus. Owner was very cooperative. House is cool and has character. A nice, clean swimming pool in College Station is a good thing. We had a great stay here for a football weekend.

Owner's Response: Thanks Anthony! I'm glad y'all had a good time. I agree that this is a cool house with character (which is one big reason I bought it), - makes it the ideal getaway for a family or group of friends - with comfy spots for conversation or large areas to get the whole group together. And when you finally rest your head, its on sheets and pillows that make you say AHHHH!! I've shared the link with several renters who have asked where I get such soft sheets. I hope y'all can come back sometime!! Gig 'em,

Clean and cozy

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at this property! Barbara got back to me quickly with all my concerns and questions. The beds were comfortable and there was an extra air mattress and bedding too. The lot is on the corner so there is a nice sized yard to play in as well. The neighborhood was quiet yet super close to campus and restaurants. The kitchen is small, but we knew that going in and adjusted. The house is older but well kept and clean. We enjoyed our stay!! Thank you, Barbara!!

Great house with a really neat layout!!

  • 5 of 5

Owner was very nice and hospitable. Wish it would have been warm enough to use the pool though. Its in a great location where you can easily walk or uber to Northgate or Kyle Field but just far enough away that its quiet if you want to enjoy sitting outside which is what we did the whole time we were there since the weather was awesome. I would definitely recommend it for a group of friends or a large family as their is plenty of room to spread out

We loved our stay here. A unique but homey base. Swam some but mostly relaxed between Ag functions.
